Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Illusory Items Finally Have Levels
Listening to Huo Mu’s words, Feng Xue furrowed his brows because he thought this rule was extremely unreasonable.
After all, according to the consumption level of this landfill area, the vast majority of its residents should have already exceeded the threshold of basic needs, possessing enough funds for rumors, anomalies, and even Kaidan. And for these people, the mere "Identity" is not that scarce. Instead, they lack fantasy items that suit them.
Moreover, regardless of whether one is able to sell anything or not, one has to pay a daily rental fee of twenty thousand ta, which essentially equates to running at a loss if one doesn’t have a large quantity of fantasy items for sale.
Why do so many online games and infinite stream novels always set up player stalls outside of the system and Main God’s public auctions? Isn’t it because of the flexibility of setting up a stall?
However, this place expressly forbids traders from bartering items, which made Feng Xue have to consider whether someone was actively controlling the circulation of fantasy items.
Seeming to sense Feng Xue’s thoughts, or perhaps used to similar customers, once Huo Mu confirmed that Feng Xue was not daydreaming, he immediately spoke up,
"In fact, if you want to barter, there are specialized consignment stores here. You leave the details of your fantasy items and the details of the items you want in the store. When the corresponding items appear, the store will contact the buyer to come over.
"As for setting up a street stall here... Most of them are professional merchants. They know some craftsmen who don’t wish to join forces but still have the need to sell their wares. These items are basically practice pieces for those craftsmen, most of them being the lowest grade baubles. Some even have negative effects. But occasionally there are items with special elements that can inspire extraordinary power only under certain conditions.
"They set up a stall partly to get a business tag and partly to see if there are any who come to test their Identification tag or those who believe too much in their own discernment and become big suckers.
"Of course, if you can correctly judge the quality of a fantasy item, you can still find good stuff at the street stall. So, the same old saying, the black market is a place that tests your Eye Power. There are no contracts protecting any transactions here, whether one makes a profit or a loss, only the trade parties know."
Hearing what she said, Feng Xue did understand a bit, but he did not immediately head to a storefront. Instead, he started meandering in front of the surrounding street stalls.
Not for any other reason, but to roughly understand the baseline prices of fantasy items.
He obviously knew that the prices from street stalls were definitely inflated, but even with inflated prices, he could compare the goods with storefront items, at least not letting himself be too passive when selling his wares.
After a simple two laps and several price inquiries, Feng Xue had a bit of an idea and then headed over to a storefront that bore the sign "Weapon Shop".
The storefronts in the black market were basically a sealed display cabinet and a window that allowed the clerk to stick half their body out. There was absolutely no intention of letting customers into the shop. This layout made Feng Xue involuntarily think of the family milk tea shops and ice cream stores from before he traveled to this world.
"Welcome. What can I help you with?"
The clerk was a seemingly aged, but still charmingly mature woman. However, considering that a front desk staff member would usually be much younger, Feng Xue guessed that this person was probably a greasy old man.
Of course, this wasn’t really important. After making the customary assessment, Feng Xue immediately touched the large cloth bag and placed the weapons he had confiscated from the Kaidan trio on the table.
The clerk glanced at the three weapons with an indifferent expression and said,
"Three ordinary quality fantasy items, twenty thousand for the Nail Head Hammer and the Hand Axe each. The shotgun is a ranged weapon; I’ll offer you thirty-five thousand, so seventy-five thousand total. How about it?"
While speaking, the clerk seemed ready to take out the money, but Feng Xue pressed his hand on the double-barreled shotgun and said,
"Boss, isn’t that wrong? The price for the Nail Head Hammer and Hand Axe is fine, but this double-barreled shotgun isn’t just any ordinary quality, is it? It possesses the special effect of using any items smaller than its caliber as Ammo, and this thing can also be used as a Cutting class melee Weapon. It’s definitely worth more than just ordinary quality."
After his previous wanderings, Feng Xue had roughly understood that within the South District, fantasy items were divided into four grades: junk, ordinary, fine, and exceptional. There were likely higher levels, but he had not seen them at the street stalls, and the only item rumored to be "exceptional," a pair of gauntlets, was offered at an exorbitant price of one hundred and eighty thousand.
However, this classification did not seem to be based on rigid indicators like the number of elements but rather on a vague grading of the item’s abilities.
Junk was practically useless stuff, like his Infinite Salt, the pink remote-controlled toy he gave to Chen Xiyao, and the Fatty Tongue Toffee in his pocket. These belonged to this grade. It’s not that they were utterly useless; combined with some special fantasy items, they could perform well. But most of the time, they were not very useful, with prices around ten thousand or so. Consumables were even lower; three to four thousand was already good, not even comparable to some valuable pseudo artifacts.
Ordinary items were as good as real-world items apart from the shared traits of fantasy items. The Nail Head Hammer and Hand Axe fell into this category. Apart from their inherent sharp and solid tags, they had no extraordinary power or the ability to grant new tags. Their prices were roughly between twenty and fifty thousand. Protective gear was priced higher but wouldn’t exceed a hundred thousand.
Fine items were much better, possessing a practical and general ability or element, or they could confer occupational tags. Prices started from "a hundred thousand". Items like Feng Xue’s "Sealed Golden Chest" and "Physical Avatar" cards were certainly fine level. In particular, the Physical Avatar card could easily sell for five to six hundred thousand without any issues.
As for exceptional level, they were top-grade, starting at a million. Simply holding them could significantly enhance the holder’s ability (in all aspects). For instance, Feng Xue’s Silent Boots might only increase movement speed and accelerate injury recovery in out-of-combat states, but they definitely met this standard. Selling them for a hundred million was absolutely not an issue, especially considering that a pair of gauntlets capable of "smashing rocks" and "slightly increasing Power" could sell for one hundred and eighty million!
And listening to Feng Xue’s words, the store owner paused in his motion of taking out the money, realizing that Feng Xue wasn’t the kind of rookie who didn’t even understand the function of the weapons he had seized. However, he wasn’t going to give in either, merely saying,
"While it does ignore Ammo replenishment, its actual power is just moderate, plus it can only load two shots at a time. As for using it as a melee weapon, at best it’s a [Sharp] element. Holding an ordinary level blade would do just as well. If a Gunman gets close, relying on this function to counter is utterly unrealistic..."
As the shopkeeper spoke, his eyes met Feng Xue’s serious gaze. Based on his many years of experience running a stall, he knew he would immediately walk away unless given a fair price. After a brief moment of consideration, he finally gave a relatively fair price—
"One hundred and fifty thousand... Well, plus the other two items, I’ll give you two hundred thousand at most. Can’t do any more!"
