Chapter 51: An Old "Friend"
As the classes ended, Eira was feeling a weird knot in her stomach. This couldn’t be happening; Callian wouldn’t do anything to hurt her.
He loved her...
After biting her lip a little bit, she decided to take her phone out. "Right...where is he?"
Eira thought about Liam.
He was gone for a while now, and knowing his cunning character, he would’ve loved to stick around, especially when Callian was back.
So something wasn’t adding up.
First, Callian and this strange woman; second, Liam’s strange disappearance; third...her old teacher’s death.
How could all these things be connected now?
Liam disappeared the moment Callian woke up, then her teacher died...
"Callian was annoyed by Liam, but he couldn’t possibly..." Eira gasped. "No...he wouldn’t..."
Eira pushed open the front door and stepped inside, closing it behind her.
She let out a shaky breath; her head was spinning with doubts about Callian.
But before she could gather her thoughts, a sharp, stabbing pain shot through her belly, forcing her to her knees.
She gasped, clutching her stomach, trying to breathe through the pain.
"Again?!"
A loud, urgent knock sounded at the door, followed by a voice shouting, "Police! Open up! We need to speak with you!"
Eira’s heart stopped, but she forced herself to her feet, the pain still twisted in her stomach.
She took a deep breath, steadying herself, and opened the door to find two police officers standing there.
The taller officer nodded at her. "Are you Eira Blackwood?"
She managed a small nod. "No, I’m Eira Hax Reed...what’s this about?"
The second officer stepped forward. "We’re looking for Liam Blackwood. Is he here?"
Eira blinked, confused. "Liam? No, he isn’t here. Why? What’s going on?"
The taller officer’s expression remained serious. "We have some questions for him regarding an investigation. We need to know his whereabouts."
Eira was still processing what they were saying. "I...I don’t know where he is. He hasn’t been around here."
The officer exchanged a look with his partner. "If you hear from him, you need to contact us immediately. This is serious, Mrs. Reed."
Eira nodded slowly. "Of course...I’ll let you know."
The second officer handed her a card. "Our contact information. Don’t hesitate to call, and please let us know if he reaches out to you."
"I...I will. Thank you."
Without another word, the officers nodded and left, leaving Eira standing in the doorway, clutching the card in her hand.
It wasn’t something new, but it also was strange.
Before Eira moved to the capital, she did some of her research about Liam and Vanesa.
She knew Liam’s mother wasn’t here anymore and knew that Vanesa was supposed to be spoiled.
However, when she met Vanesa for the first time at the auction, she wasn’t expecting her to look so different...as if she’d done a lot of plastic surgeries on her face.
Which could’ve possibly indicated that Vanesa was just really insecure inside and outside; Liam, on the other hand, was one calculating demon.
There was no way that Liam would just vanish like that. He was after money, after all..."Where is he?"
While Eira was clutching to the couch because the pain was forcing her to even grit her teeth, Callian came back home.
"Hey, are you okay?" He placed his coat on a hanger.
Eira didn’t say anything and just fell to the ground.
"Hey, hey, Eira!" Callian rushed to pick her up.
"What’s going on?" His eyes widened.
"No—nothing! Aaaagh!" She screamed as the sharp stabbing started affecting her even more.
"Eira, please, tell me!" Callian was desperate for answers.
"It’s nothing! Aaagh!"
"That’s it." He held her tighter and rushed out.
"No, please, not to the hospital again."
"Eira, I’m not going to play with your health."
"Please, the pain will go away."
"Eira..."
"Just take me back inside..."
Callian’s jaw clenched; he didn’t want to, but also didn’t feel like hurting Eira.
"Fine, but I’m calling a doctor."
He came inside and placed her onto his bed. Callian noticed that Eira was out of breath.
"Stay there! One second!" he ordered and immediately dialed a number.
Piiiiiiiiing Piiiiiiiing
Nobody seemed to be on the line. "Bastard!" He smashed his phone to the ground.
"Eira, I need to take you to the hospital."
He glanced. "Eira? Eira?"
"I can’t believe this!"
He rushed, picked her up, and rushed to his car.
Sweat like a fountain covered his body; his breath was ragged, but nothing seemed to be more important than saving Eira.
He got inside the car, started turning his engine on, but it went out.
"Fuck!" He slammed his wheel.
"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!" He screamed to the point where his throat started to hurt.
"Where’s my phone?" He started looking around but couldn’t find it.
Then, Callian remembered that he smashed it on the ground.
"Why can’t anything go right?!"
Callian put his hands into his hair, as if trying to pull it out, then he looked back to see if Eira was okay.
Her eyes were still closed. Doubtful, he opened a small box in his car behind the wheel. "I can’t believe it..."
He pulled out an old phone, dialed the number, and waited for someone to pick up.
"Please, please..." His right foot kept shaking.
"Hello?" There was an old female’s voice on the line.
"Mita, please...Eira is dying, and my car is not turning on...I need your help...bring me a car, please."
"But Callian, I thought—"
"I will explain everything later, please hurry."
"Understood. I will be there in less than ten minutes."
She hung up the phone.
After a while, a woman with long, wavy red hair arrived.
She got out of the car. "Callian, next time just go with a taxi," she stated.
But Callian had no time. With Eira in his hands, he pushed her to the side and got inside the woman’s car.
It was a huge black jeep, big enough to fit a family of seven.
"Drive! Fast! Because if I do, I might crash into someone," he yelled at her while holding Eira tighter, squeezing her body.
