"Can I be exempted from this rule?" She suddenly found her boldness and asked.

Normally she was bold when it came to her battles but with him, he was a different battle entirely.

She lost to him each time and she did not know why he affected her this way. Sadly, for Era, she still had not yet noticed that her heart had begun falling for Vidor.

"Why? Do you hate me so much that you want to run away from me as quickly as possible?"

Although she knew he was only kidding, she felt it. She felt his pain through his voice. He may look tough, act tough, but his heart was fragile and he had not yet recovered from the heartbreak of today.

At that moment, she felt her inner voice speak, ’I love you. I do not want to hurry and leave you.’

Instantly her eyes went wide with shock. Was it her mind playing tricks on her or was it what she truly desired? She could not pick out which one it was exactly. All she knew was the fact that she liked him now.

And perhaps that wasn’t too much of a bad idea.

Noticing the shock on her face, Vidor closed in on her, with the faces only inches apart. "What is wrong, my love?"

"Huh..." she shook her head, withdrawing her face back a little to prevent their heads from colliding, "Nothing," she lied. How was she going to tell him what went on in her mind?

"Era."

"Hmm?" She tried her best to avoid his gaze but Vidor was persistent. He chased after her gaze with his, blocking her view and escape route each time she redirected her face elsewhere.

She was caught in his trap with no means of escape.

She took a deep breath and looked into his eyes. "I do not hate you, my king." His heart jumped hearing those words. "I do not want to run either. So please, stop hurting yourself with those words. I know you are."

"Era."

She did not let him speak before finishing his words for him. "I know you do not want me to know but it is like you are intentionally torturing yourself as a way to atone for what you did."

"Era, I..."

"Do not lie to me, Vidor," she cut in, "I can see it in your eyes. You were hurt by the words you spoke just now. I just want you to stop doing that. I do not hate you so do not insinuate things."

"But you did hate me. You hate me for killing them." Her eyes shut involuntarily when he made mention of the word kill. "I know I hurt you. I am sorry. I wish I could..."

"I wish you would stop." Her eyes flew open after the words left her mouth and she pressed her lips against his. "I may still do but, it is not something I can just take away from my heart. And if I hate you so much, I won’t be here with you, kissing you."

He lowered his gaze to her hand which was now caressing his cheeks softly. Reaching up, he held her hand and pulled it from his face to kiss it.

"Era," his eyes lit up as a smile formed on his lips. "You know me. No one has ever bothered to do that before. You can see through me, huh?"

"Maybe not all the time but I definitely saw through this."

Although she was not free from his grasp, she had managed to divert his earlier question from her person.

"Thanks." He kissed the back of her palm softly, ensuring she felt how tenderly he wished to take care of her.

"Welcome."

"So, would you stay with me? Especially since you have broken my rules?" She really felt like face-palming herself at that moment. After everything, he still remembered?

"You did not think I have forgotten now do you?"

"Why do you want me so much to stay by your side?" Era had to ask. It looked like he was becoming obsessed with her. "Especially when you said you cannot control yourself when you are with me," she added.

"I know what I said and that is another reason why. As I earlier said, I cannot stop thinking about you. Nothing makes sense without you. It feels like my whole being and system won’t rest until I get to see your face, have you beside me."

Era le out a soft sigh. She had never been in love so she did not know how it felt. All she knew was that she understood him to a large extent.

She wanted to see him before, so much in fact. And his thoughts always plagued her mind back then when he was sick, before the battle.

So yeah and it also did not help now that he was scared during the battle. Seemed a lot to her that he had not been able to let go of that fear and even though she was close by him and in the confines of the palace, he knew she was not saved as many would want to harm her.

This his fear only increased and he wished her to be by his side daily, every time so he could not just love her but protect her.

Besides, his love for her wanted him to always spend time with her and now he was an utter mess.

"I do not want thanks in return," he pouted, blinking severally at her.

She could not help but release the chuckle that so much longed to come out. He looked absolutely cute being like that. "Hehe, keep that up and maybe I would change my mind after your subjects see how much of a baby their mighty king is."

Her smile reached up in her face, illuminating her beauty. "For my queen, I would become anything, even a dumb, a fool, a stupid man."

"I do not want a dumb king ruling beside me. I want a strong, brave, courageous and kind ruler."

"I would be anything you want me to be."

"Not for me, but for your people Vidor. Oh and that remind me, the ladies of the court and I we plan on holding a festival kind of celebration."

"Great then. You can fill me in on the details. It would also make sense to celebrate the victory of this battle and honour our fallen comrades since we postponed the celebration before."

"I think it is a good idea. Yes, the ladies would be happy. We want a way to give back to the poor out there and make them feel like in this mighty kingdom we are one. That is the kind of Etheria I want to rule beside you."

"We would make that happen. It would be a huge festival to celebrate the people and unify all classes. The class system should not be so much of a barrier."

"Yes. I think so too, but I fear that your ministers may not like it. They would feel like their powers would be taken from them," Era reasoned.

"Worry not. I would handle them myself."
