Chapter 201
Finally, he placed a kiss on her forehead, then pulled back, pulling his weight off her body. They lay there for some time, enjoying the bright sky.
No one spoke. Several thoughts already plagued her mind at that moment.
It was like her senses were slowly returning What would they want from her? Would she be able to allow him into her heart just like that?
Was she ready to heal and forgive him entirely? What about bringing justice for her people and parents? Did she just want to throw it all away?
And what was this feeling within her? Her heart seemed to know it and it welcomed it with all ease and joy but her mind was scared.
Too scared of the unknown.
"Hey."
"Hmm?"
"Still hungry?"
"Not really."
"Okay."
They remained quiet one more time. No one knew what more to say. Finally, he sat up and looked at her. They looked like a pair of lovers, basking in the afterglow of the morning sun.
"Thank you."
She looked in his direction and furrowed her brows. What was he thanking her for? She did nothing. For the record, she made a king cry. It should be the other way round.
Sensing her confusion, he decided to explain. "For giving me a listening ear and not being mad at me again."
"I would not be so sure."
She saw the same thing she did when she made him cry. That stab of pain in his eyes but funny enough, he shook his head and with it, the pain was gone.
"I know. You are still mad but as I said, I would spend the rest of my life chasing you and correcting my wrong till I make you mine, body and soul."
Era did not say anything further and sat up. He helped her as well, before giving her some fruits and refilling her wine glass.
"I am here to serve you, my queen. All I need from you is to give the word and I would do it."
"If one saw you now, they would think I have bewitched their king. Who would have thought that the King Vidor of Etheria, has a heart to love?"
"I know right now you are saying words that would hurt me but trust me, I would not get hurt by your words anymore."
"Why?"
"Because I know how much I hurt you. It is only natural and since you hate me, I would ensure I change your heart to loving me."
"Why do you love me?" Era asked shaking her head.
"I gave you an answer before. I just..."
"Why, Vidor? Why did the cold king fall in love with the hated traitor queen?"
"You are no traitor Era."
"You seemed to have believed them back then," she argued.
"That was back then and I was blinded. I trusted wrongly and now I know. I know I wronged you and I would fix it all." He reached for her hand, holding it in his as he faced her completely.
"You cannot bring them back to life, your majesty. They are gone."
Saying that Era pulled her hand away and rested it against her chest as she gazed down, gloomily.
"I know. I wish I could change things for you. I wish I could turn back the hand of time but all of those would be wishful thinking. I did wrong you. And although my apology now cannot bring them back, allow me to let you experience love again."
"From who? You or from the very people who wanted me and my family dead?"
"Era."
"No. I really do not want to talk about it. Although I love Etherians, I cannot forgive those who hurt me."
"You cannot forgive me as well, right?"
She was tempted to say yes, but she knew that if she did not forgive him already, she wouldn’t have welcomed his kisses, neither would she be here with him.
It was safe to say she had forgiven him. But recalling what he had done to Damian and some others, she withheld her statement. If he was sorry, then he should figure out those behind her kingdom’s downfall and bring them all to justice while also releasing Lord Damian and his kingdom.
"It is alright. I am not in a hurry." That was a clear lie and even Era knew it. He wanted her so bad.
He wanted the union between his wife and himself. His hormones raged within him and he did not understand it. Before he had always been able to resist any woman but ever since he fell in love with her, he had just been helpless.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"Good. Anyways what was your answer, your majesty."
"Strike three. You have forgotten my rule," Vidor noted, trying his best to lighten up the mood. When she did not laugh, he decided to give her an answer.
"Yes. As I said, it is because nothing else makes sense without you in it. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, parties, balls, sleep, long or short nights. Era, I just want you by my side every time."
"That is not possible, and you know it. I have responsibilities."
"I am your very first responsibility and I am hurt."
"Tsk, didn’t you say it was healed?" Era retorted.
"I was but my injury has reopened."
"You sure are naughty and lousy at lying, your majesty."
"What? NO."
"You are. Regardless, for making this effort to have breakfast with me, I would oblige you and stay with you throughout..."
"Today?"
"No. This morning. I have piled up work thanks to you for jumping into battle and stuff."
"Are you blaming me? I was worried about you. I honestly could not rest or think straight because I was scared they had got you."
"Awwn isn’t that sweet."
"You can ask Lord Damina. In fact, I knew I loved you but at that point in time, I knew I could not live and breathe well without you. I regained my former name in battle all because I was scared and worried and angry."
Without being told, she knew he was reliving those horrible moments in battle again and it touched her.
At least she was worried sick too and knew how it felt but one thing he was told by one of the soldiers when she inquired, she knew he was in much pain and confusion.
"I was so scared Era. Very scared of what might have been."
She scooted closer to where he sat in front of her and placed a hand on his left cheek and she managed a calming, charming smile at him.
"I am here now. I am safe."
That was when he opened his eyes that were shut due to the pain he felt from recalling that past. "Sure?"
"For now, at least. Yes." She smiled brightly at him again. "I am safe."
He placed a hand over hers on his face and peered deep into her lovely eyes. "Thanks."
He brought her hands back to his face and placed a kiss on it while he maintained eye contact with her. "I love you."
She did not respond but the warmth he felt from her was enough to calm his racing heater.
"I love you so much Era. I love you for all the meaning that word connotes."
