Chapter 78: Chapter 78 Not Quite the Same as Before_1
The nurse pushed Qi Cheng out of the operating room and settled him in the ward. The doctor discussed Qi Cheng’s injuries with his second brother and sister-in-law. Ji Yunhuan followed Bai Liyan to see Qi Cheng.
Bai Liyan, dressed in a white lab coat, stood aside and asked angrily, "Do you really know what you’re doing?"
When he learned the cause and effect of the car accident, and the whole story behind it, an almost maddening anger filled his heart.
"I know." Qi Cheng lay on the pillow and said calmly.
"I don’t think you know at all! Have you ever thought about how those of us who care about you would feel?" Qi Cheng was never one to disregard life. Now, he used his life, which so many people cared about, to save Ji Yunhuan, whom he had not known for long.
Qi Cheng was too tired to care what Bai Liyan was saying and directly closed his eyes.
Thinking of this, Bai Liyan angrily walked out of the ward.
Watching his departing back, Ji Yunhuan couldn’t help but stiffen. She remembered what he had said to her outside earlier. Perhaps that was his way of showing concern for Qi Cheng.
Qi Cheng lay in bed as the nurses finished attaching the IV and left.
Ji Yunhuan stared at him lying there, her chest tightening with the words she couldn’t speak.
She had thought he might die.
Fortunately, the injury wasn’t too severe.
She walked to his side and held his hand. Feeling her presence, he opened his eyes to look at her.
He was very tired.
Very tired!
Because he worried about her safety, he had insisted on seeing her once before.
After arguing with Bai Liyan, he had no strength left and just wanted to sleep well.
Ji Yunhuan could see he was exhausted. She looked at him and said tenderly, "Go to sleep. I’ll stay here and watch over you."
He responded, closed his eyes, and fell asleep. His long lashes made him look extraordinarily handsome in slumber.
Ji Yunhuan sat by the bedside, watching over him like she was guarding her own life.
While Qi Cheng slept, Ji Yunhuan stayed with him but couldn’t help recalling Qi Cheng’s words.
He had said someone wanted to harm her?
Then who could it be?
At this moment, his second brother and sister-in-law came in. Ji Yunhuan quickly stood up.
They glanced at Qi Cheng on the bed.
His sister-in-law sighed.
His second brother said, "The driver who collided with Qi Cheng has died from his injuries."
A heavy feeling surged in Ji Yunhuan’s heart.
His sister-in-law said, "Fortunately, Qi Cheng’s car was good. Otherwise, he might have been the one who died."
Qi Cheng’s cars were always specially protected out of concern for safety.
Otherwise, he couldn’t have just suffered these minor injuries from such a collision.
Ji Yunhuan glanced at Qi Cheng. He probably hadn’t thought about these things when he saved her, right?
A feeling of gratitude welled up in her heart but was suppressed deep inside.
So she appeared particularly calm.
His sister-in-law said, "In this case, your wedding will likely need to be postponed. I’ll handle things. You can stay here and take good care of Qi Cheng these days."
"I know," Ji Yunhuan replied.
From the looks of his second brother and sister-in-law, it seemed they were unaware of the previous incident.
Qi Cheng slept until nightfall. After spending the day with him, his second brother and sister-in-law left after checking on him.
In the car, his sister-in-law said, "I thought that with Qi Cheng in an accident, Ji Yunhuan would be more upset. But she didn’t shed a single tear. She doesn’t seem to truly care about Qi Cheng. Sigh... Qi Cheng did so much for her..."
His second brother, driving, said, "Not crying doesn’t mean she doesn’t care."
His sister-in-law couldn’t help but glance at him twice, "I didn’t see you looking at her much, but you seem to have a good impression of her."
A rare smile appeared on his second brother’s handsome face, "With my wife here, who else would I look at?"
"So if I wasn’t here, you’d look at other people?"
His second brother smiled slightly, "Apart from my wife, I don’t like looking at anyone else."
"Lucky you can talk."
...
Ji Yunhuan sat by the bedside, cutting peeled fruit into small pieces and handed them to Qi Cheng. Seeing her serious about accompanying him, he remembered being kicked out of the house by her last night, "You’re not angry anymore?"
"What?" Ji Yunhuan’s hand paused for a moment but still fed the fruit into his mouth.
"About Su Zi," Qi Cheng reminded.
Ji Yunhuan looked at him with a trace of coldness in her eyes. Since he woke up, she hadn’t actually smiled at him.
So Qi Cheng couldn’t guess what she was thinking.
Ji Yunhuan said, "Do you really have to bring up those unpleasant things now?"
To say she wasn’t bothered would be false.
Especially since the person Su Zi wanted to harm was Chenchen. Even if Su Zi wanted to harm her, she could endure, but Chenchen was more important to her than her own life.
"Please, for my sake, don’t hold it against her anymore, okay?" Qi Cheng gently held her hand, pleading.
His humble attitude made Ji Yunhuan curious, "Before, when I offended Second Sister-in-law, you didn’t get this angry. Why this time? What’s special about Su Zi?"
He didn’t seem to have feelings for Su Zi.
After all, Su Zi was just a young girl, too young.
So was he so concerned just because she was a friend’s sister?
He didn’t even treat Bai Liyan this well!
"Su Zi is different," Qi Cheng said. "Her brother was a very good friend of mine. When we were young, we played together, and her brother once saved my life."
"Really?" Ji Yunhuan listened.
It made sense.
Mainly because she and Qi Cheng didn’t have much of a relationship, so he cared that much about Su Zi.
Although she was called his wife, she was kept by him more like a mistress.
The difference was just the titles between lover and wife.
Qi Cheng looked at her calm expression, thoughtfully, "Su Zi’s brother is already dead, so I always see her as more important than my own sister, you understand?"
Ji Yunhuan froze, staring at Qi Cheng, "I see, that’s how it is."
This way, it made sense.
One indeed would be more concerned about those they had already lost.
Qi Cheng held Ji Yunhuan’s hand, "So don’t worry about it. She hurt Chenchen, and you hurt her. You’re even now. I originally wanted both of you to apologize, but since I know you wouldn’t bow your head, I won’t force you."
Ji Yunhuan looked at him, "Since you put it that way, let’s just forget it."
Qi Cheng looked at her and gently kissed her hand.
This tender gesture made Ji Yunhuan feel dazed.
She suddenly felt that after the car accident, Qi Cheng’s attitude seemed different from before.
Previously, when he looked at her, he wasn’t this gentle or honest.
Ji Yunhuan pulled her hand back and handed him the fruit, "Actually, I want to ask, does Su Zi have any grudge against me? Why does she hate me so much?"
After hearing this, Qi Cheng didn’t know how to explain Su Molang’s matter to her.
If he said it, he didn’t know how to explain to her that he was about to marry her.
