Chapter 399: Chapter 399: Home at Last_1

She truly felt sorry for him seeing the worried expression on his face.

She wanted to say something, but thought better of it and held her tongue.

Ji Yunhuan turned around and got into another car where Bai Liyan was waiting for her.

She sat down and said, "Sorry to keep you waiting."

"It’s alright." Bai Liyan looked at her tenderly. "I can’t believe he let you go."

"This is C City, and Grandfather is here. What do you think he could do?" Ji Yunhuan knew he was just too afraid something might happen to her.

Although being with Bai Liyan would make Qi Cheng worry, it might not be entirely a bad thing.

Grandfather was mindful of the face of both families and wouldn’t easily come after someone from the Bai Family Residence.

This also relieved some of Qi Cheng’s concerns.

At night, just as Ji Yunhuan lay down on the bed, she received a text message:

"Are you going to sleep?"

Ji Yunhuan replied, "Just got into bed."

"Alone?"

His questioning made Ji Yunhuan smile helplessly.

She sent a "..." in response.

Indicating that she was speechless.

Qi Cheng’s call came quickly.

She sat up straight, answered the call, and couldn’t help but deal with this childish guy, "What’s wrong?"

"You’re feeling guilty!"

"Guilty of what?"

"Are you with Liyan?" He seemed to smell something fishy.

Ji Yunhuan sighed, "If you were here, I would definitely hit you."

"Sleeping alone?" He obviously didn’t believe it.

"Just me." Ji Yunhuan said, "Qi Cheng, I didn’t think you would distrust me so much!"

"If you were in my position, you wouldn’t believe it either." Qi Cheng replied, "Thinking of you with him makes me uncomfortable."

"Then what do you want?"

Who knows, maybe he was still with Lin Xiang.

Ji Yunhuan didn’t bother asking such ridiculous questions.

So what if he was with Lin Xiang?

They would end up married sooner or later.

And she would become a thing of the past.

Talking to Qi Cheng, she secretly placed her hand on her lower belly. She couldn’t feel the baby’s presence yet, but she knew there was her and his child there. So, she didn’t think about who was around him.

For this baby, she was willing to believe him.

They probably talked for about forty minutes. Qi Cheng knew he had taken up too much of her time. "Go to sleep. It’s not good to use your phone too much while you’re pregnant."

"You just realized that now?" He had been talking to her for so long.

"Sorry, I missed you too much." He had thought he wouldn’t see her until he returned to City A, but he saw her here.

"I miss you too." Words she couldn’t say in front of him, she mustered the courage to say over the phone.

Qi Cheng laughed, "Hmm."

His happiness came through the phone, and Ji Yunhuan could feel his joy.

He was so easily satisfied.

She had only casually said a word.

Every day thereafter, although they didn’t meet often, Ji Yunhuan could always receive calls from Qi Cheng.

Every morning, noon, and night, he would call to ask what she was doing and what she had eaten.

Like an old woman.

Even though he was not by her side, they seemed to be together.

Qi Cheng had a meal with Lin Family members and Grandfather, where the marriage between him and Lin Xiang was brought up. He refused.

Both families didn’t think much of it, just assuming Qi Cheng didn’t want to marry early.

They would give more time for him and Lin Xiang to get along.

Qi Cheng knew no matter how he interacted with Lin Xiang, he wouldn’t change his mind. But since Lin Xiang was willing to cling to him and not give up, he couldn’t be bothered to say anything.

With Lin Xiang around, Grandfather would seldom focus his attention outside.

Ji Yunhuan stayed with Bai Liyan in C City for some time. They toured the local attractions before returning to City A with Bai Liyan.

She told Qi Cheng the night before she left.

She had promised not to sneak away.

Ji Yunhuan’s flight was in the morning. City A wasn’t as hot as when they left. Bai Liyan took Ji Yunhuan home.

Aunt Liu was delighted to see Ji Yunhuan return. "Ms. Ji."

Ji Yunhuan smiled, "Thank you, Aunt Liu."

"Not at all." Aunt Liu smiled and helped her with her luggage.

Ji Yunhuan said to Bai Liyan, "You should go. Don’t worry about me."

Bai Liyan had work to attend to and couldn’t stay with her. He mentioned this before the trip.

Taking up too much of his time made Ji Yunhuan feel quite guilty.

Bai Liyan gently said, "Then I’ll leave. You must be very tired after just getting off the plane. Please rest well."

After all, she was pregnant, and the journey was taxing.

"With Aunt Liu here, don’t worry about me."

Bai Liyan left quickly.

Returning home, there was a feeling of relaxation.

Being away for so long made her miss home.

Ji Yunhuan had lunch made by Aunt Liu. Afterward, she sunbathed in her yard and then took a nap.

Because nobody disturbed her sleep, she slept until the afternoon, waking up as the sun set.

"Woke up?" She opened her eyes and heard a man’s voice in what should have been her empty room.

She turned her head. Qi Cheng had somehow slipped in and was lying on her left side, reaching out to embrace her.

Ji Yunhuan was startled for a moment but quickly responded, "You came here so fast?"

She thought he wouldn’t be back until at least the following day.

"Wherever you are, I am." He gently held her hand. "How does it feel to see me the first moment you wake up?"

"Good." She held onto his arm.

"What kind of feeling?" He pressed.

"Happy." Though they had met in C City, it always felt sneaky, as if Grandfather was a looming rock preventing her from breathing.

But here, they felt free as fish in water.

Qi Cheng was satisfied with her answer, holding her hand and nudging her closer as if he wanted to merge them into one.

Ji Yunhuan lay quietly by his side for a while, thinking about how quickly he came, "You didn’t go home first, did you?"

"I did." He glanced at her, "Aunt Liu told me you had lunch and then slept until now?"

Ji Yunhuan felt a bit embarrassed hearing that and saw it was nearly six o’clock. "I didn’t realize I slept this long."

It was summer, so it was still light out.

But Qi Cheng didn’t mind her long sleep. "The baby is four months old; you must be very tired."

"It’s alright." Though she was tired, having him by her side made it all worth it.

Qi Cheng gazed at her, his eyes gradually turning deep. "Sometimes I hate you to death."

"Why do you hate me?" Ji Yunhuan felt helpless.

Qi Cheng held and kneaded her hand out of habit. "How could I not hate you? If, back then, I hadn’t made that decision in the hospital, Liyan wouldn’t have been forced to tell me the truth. I would’ve never known the child was mine. Until the baby was born, I could only watch from afar, unable to stay by your side. So, tell me, aren’t you heartless?"
