Chapter 395: Chapter 395: It Wasn’t Me Who Said It_1
Lin Xiang frowned after reaching out to nothing.
Second brother stopped to comfort Lin Xiang. "Don’t mind him. He just got off the plane and isn’t feeling well. He’s a bit grumpy."
Despite second brother’s comfort, Lin Xiang could clearly sense Qi Cheng was angry at her.
But she didn’t think she had done anything wrong.
She was Qi Cheng’s fiancée. Did she not have the right to manage him?
Qi Cheng entered the living room. Grandpa was sitting there, along with Uncle. He walked over and greeted the two elders. "Grandpa, Uncle."
Uncle, who seldom saw Qi Cheng, greeted him warmly. "Long time no see, Qi Cheng."
Qi Cheng smiled.
Looking at Grandpa...
He guessed Lin Xiang must have already spoken to Grandpa.
Otherwise, Grandpa wouldn’t have been so eager to call him over.
"Sit down." Grandpa’s attitude was calmer than Qi Cheng had imagined.
But this made Qi Cheng feel more uncertain.
Qi Cheng sat down. "Grandpa, you specially called me over. What’s the matter?"
Grandpa gave him a glance. "Can’t I call you over if there’s nothing?"
Qi Cheng: "..."
At this moment, Lin Xiang and second brother came in from outside.
Second brother greeted Grandpa. Out of the three Qi brothers, second brother was the least noticeable and wasn’t particularly favored by Grandpa. After greeting, he excused himself, saying he was tired, and went upstairs to rest.
In fact, he was indeed very tired.
These past few days had exhausted him mentally, dealing with Qi Cheng’s matters.
Lin Xiang found a seat far from Qi Cheng and sat down. Looking at him with eyes full of grievance, Grandpa spoke to Qi Cheng. "Your Uncle Lin and Aunt Lin want to invite you for a meal."
Qi Cheng glanced at Lin Xiang and said, "I don’t want to."
"You’re not a child anymore. Don’t be so willful. Haven’t you been getting along well with Lin Xiang? Lin Xiang likes you very much. What’s wrong with this child?" Grandpa, glancing at Lin Xiang, seemed very satisfied with her.
Lin Xiang smiled slightly at Grandpa’s words.
"I’m tired." Qi Cheng used a similar excuse to second brother’s and stood up, intending to go upstairs.
"Stop." Grandpa stopped him. "I have more to say to you."
"Aren’t you entertaining a guest now?" Qi Cheng glanced at Uncle, nodded, and went upstairs willfully.
Watching his retreating figure, Grandpa’s wrinkled face tightened.
Lin Xiang said, "I’ll go rest too."
"Go ahead!"
She quickly followed Qi Cheng, who was still on the stairs. Lin Xiang’s voice called out, "Qi Cheng, wait for me."
Qi Cheng really stopped his pace, curious about what Lin Xiang wanted to do.
Lin Xiang walked up to him quickly. Seeing his cold expression, she hesitated and asked, "Are you mad at me?"
She didn’t dare to grab Qi Cheng’s hand like before. She was somewhat afraid of this man, only looking at him anxiously.
Qi Cheng smiled slightly. "No."
He didn’t even have the strength to question her.
Seeing his smile made Lin Xiang even more uneasy.
"The thing with Yunhuan wasn’t my doing. When I returned, Aunt guessed it herself upon seeing me come back alone." Lin Xiang explained, not wanting Qi Cheng to dislike her.
She liked Qi Cheng and wanted his heart. Even if their marriage was forced by his family, it seemed meaningless.
"Oh really?" Qi Cheng clearly didn’t believe her. If she didn’t want to speak, no one could force her to open her mouth.
"Qi Cheng, you have to believe me."
"I’m tired." Qi Cheng turned and went upstairs. Lin Xiang watched his retreating back and frowned.
She knew that because of his family, Qi Cheng was still kind to her. But she always felt there was a vast distance between his heart and hers.
She had the illusion that no matter how hard she tried, she could never make this man love her.
Clenching her fist, she convinced herself to banish the negativity.
She couldn’t think like that.
Qi Cheng would love her. Surely!
Bai Liyan came down after a shower to find his mother still chatting with Ji Yunhuan, and he couldn’t help but sigh. "Time for bed."
"You can sleep. Don’t mind us." Aunt directly dismissed her son.
Bai Liyan approached and sighed. "Early to bed, early to rise. It’s good for your health. Go to sleep."
"Alright, alright." Aunt looked helplessly at Ji Yunhuan. "Yunhuan, it’s bedtime. Every time he’s home, he likes to boss me around."
Aunt reluctantly left.
Bai Liyan watched his mother’s back, helplessly curling his lips.
Ji Yunhuan, observing them, envied their bond. "Liyan, your relationship with your mother is really good."
Bai Liyan glanced at her. "You should sleep too!"
Ji Yunhuan followed Bai Liyan up the stairs slowly, gazing at him. "You’re really a good man."
"Then why don’t you like me?" Bai Liyan looked at her. "Don’t women rush to good men?"
"Those aren’t women; they’re fan girls." Ji Yunhuan smiled.
In no time, they had reached upstairs.
Taking the opportunity, Bai Liyan promoted himself. "Look, my mother is great. If you’re with me, it’ll be easy. This isn’t something you’d find in the Qi Family."
Ji Yunhuan asked, "Why is there such a big difference between your family and the Qi Family?"
Their social status seemed similar.
"Is there?"
"Your family’s atmosphere seems much more relaxed." Though the Qi family was united, stepping into the Qi Family, one could feel a strict aristocratic ambiance.
"It’s because Aunt Qi cares a lot about appearances, and the Qi Family’s rules are very strict. My mom isn’t like that." Bai Liyan explained. "If you like, you can stay here. You saw, my mom is very happy when you’re around. She’s been lonely for too long."
"Does Aunt not go out much?" Ji Yunhuan asked.
Bai Liyan nodded. "There are too many gossipers outside, so she often stays home alone."
Ji Yunhuan was surprised. "Even being your father’s woman, people still dare to talk?"
"Even powerful people can’t stop gossip. Even if people don’t say it out loud, their looks can be strange. Mom doesn’t want trouble." Seeing Ji Yunhuan deep in thought, Bai Liyan continued. "But you don’t need to worry about this. Mom says it’s her choice and doesn’t regret it. What others say is their business; she ignores it. Plus, with Dad loving her so much, she feels happy."
Bai Liyan’s words made Ji Yunhuan’s heart sink slowly.
She looked at Bai Liyan, who was also observing her. She paused. "Aunt is... the bravest woman in this world."
"Really?" Bai Liyan curled his lips. "Why do you think so?"
