Chapter 339: Chapter 339: Pregnant with the Second Child (2)_1
In this sweltering summer, she desperately wanted to take a hundred and eighty showers a day to feel comfortable.
After tossing and turning late into the night, she ended up waking very late the next day.
Aunt Liu didn’t disturb her; when Ji Yunhuan came downstairs, breakfast was already laid out.
After breakfast, she walked out the door and went to work at the restaurant.
When Qi Cheng was around, she stayed cooped up every day. When he wasn’t, she tried to find something to do.
Ji Yunhuan entered the restaurant. Wen Nuan was busy and was surprised to see her. "I thought you’d rest at home longer."
"What’s the point of resting? I’m bored to death." Ji Yunhuan poured herself a glass of iced coffee and sat down next to Wen Nuan.
"How’s Yangyang?" Wen Nuan thought Ji Yunhuan should be home with her son now.
Ji Yunhuan replied, "I had my second sister-in-law pick him up yesterday."
"Are you stupid?" Wen Nuan looked at her helplessly. "You don’t keep him by your side. You give him to someone else. You know how much he relies on your second sister-in-law."
Ji Yunhuan smiled. She was left with no better choice. "Yangyang hates me. He doesn’t like me at all. I can’t do anything about it. I never knew he could hate me this much. Whatever. If he doesn’t like me, keeping him nearby would only be torture for him."
Thinking about how her son hated her, she hadn’t slept a wink the night before.
"In that case, you shouldn’t send him back. Your second sister-in-law isn’t a good person. She knows the kid is yours, and she still fights to take him. If it were me, I’d never let her see him again." Wen Nuan said angrily.
Ji Yunhuan looked at Wen Nuan and asked, "What if I can’t win against her?"
Wen Nuan paused.
"That’s true. What are you? A woman kicked out by the Qi Family, not even sure about your relationship with Qi Cheng! She’s the legitimate daughter-in-law of the Qi Family. But their family is really too much." Wen Nuan sighed.
There probably weren’t many people who wouldn’t compromise when dealing with the Qi Family.
But this feeling of being helpless was infuriating.
Out of reluctance, Wen Nuan didn’t bring up the child in the days that followed.
Ji Yunhuan worked at the restaurant every day.
These days, aside from phone calls, Qi Cheng didn’t come to see her.
There were times when she thought she never wanted to see Qi Cheng again. That way, she wouldn’t have to be caught up in the Qi Family’s affairs.
Yet, thinking about how good Qi Cheng was to her, she suppressed this feeling.
The wind chimes at the restaurant’s door made a pleasant sound.
Ji Yunhuan looked up and saw Xie Xingwei walking in.
Although they were old classmates, she and Xie Xingwei didn’t seem to be that close.
"Welcome." Ji Yunhuan didn’t treat her any differently.
Xie Xingwei was dressed neatly in a navy blue dress, looking very graceful.
She looked at Ji Yunhuan but didn’t go to the dining area. She walked straight up to Ji Yunhuan.
"Looks like you came here deliberately to find me?" Ji Yunhuan smiled.
"I have something to say to you." Xie Xingwei seemed different from before.
Ji Yunhuan tried hard to discern, but nothing obvious came to mind.
"If... you came here to flaunt about Qi Cheng, forget it. I don’t want to talk about it." Xie Xingwei had once sent her a WeChat photo taken at Qi Cheng’s house, clearly a declaration of war.
She and Qi Cheng had been together a lot recently, and Xie Xingwei probably knew.
Most likely, that’s why she came here.
Ji Yunhuan had no interest in such petty rivalries.
Especially when it came to Xie Xingwei.
She never really saw Xie Xingwei as an enemy.
In Ji Yunhuan’s eyes, everything Xie Xingwei did was so childish. Maybe it was because Xie Xingwei wasn’t as overbearing as Xia Duo.
So Ji Yunhuan didn’t hate Xie Xingwei that much. She didn’t care about her that much either.
"But I really want to talk to you." Xie Xingwei looked at Ji Yunhuan sincerely.
Ji Yunhuan asked, "Are you here to argue with me? Do you want to tell me I don’t deserve to be with Qi Cheng? Others have said that too much."
"Yunhuan." Xie Xingwei smiled helplessly. "I just wanted to tell you that I’m pregnant."
"..." Ji Yunhuan paused, then smiled, "You’re pregnant? Congratulations! But it doesn’t seem to have much to do with me. We were never that close. When I had my child, you didn’t show up either."
Ji Yunhuan’s eyes were on her phone screen. She was playing on her phone.
Qi Cheng had asked if she had eaten lunch.
She was about to reply when she heard Xie Xingwei say, "The child is Qi Cheng’s. Almost two months now. The photos I sent you were taken back then."
Ji Yunhuan’s hand halted on the keys. She looked at Xie Xingwei, dazed, struggling to force a smile, "Then... congratulations?"
Beyond that, she genuinely didn’t know what to say.
Xie Xingwei was pregnant... with Qi Cheng’s child.
She had been very close to Qi Cheng recently. The last time he was seriously ill, she had forgotten about everything else. But that didn’t mean it didn’t happen.
"Yunhuan." Xie Xingwei didn’t know when she left. Ji Yunhuan kept sitting there until she came back to her senses and saw Wen Nuan in front of her.
Wen Nuan saw her in a daze, her eyes on her phone. "Chatting with Qi Cheng so intently?"
Ji Yunhuan looked down and saw Qi Cheng had sent two more messages, asking if she was busy.
Why hadn’t she replied?
Ji Yunhuan turned off her phone and sat down, feeling a stifling pain in her chest.
"Are you feeling unwell?" Wen Nuan asked worriedly.
Ji Yunhuan sat in the chair, her whole body aching.
Wen Nuan handed her a glass of water. "Should I take you to the hospital?"
"No need." She knew her pain was entirely psychological.
She couldn’t even breathe properly.
After drinking a glass of water and resting for a while, Ji Yunhuan stood up, "I’m going home."
"Now? But it’s scorching outside." Wen Nuan glanced outside, "It’s unbearable to go back now."
"It’s fine, I’ll take a cab."
"The cab’s hot too."
It was already deep into summer.
Ji Yunhuan didn’t respond to Wen Nuan, and she had already left the restaurant. She drove here today, but she didn’t get her car; she just walked onto the street.
At times like these, she didn’t dare drive. She was afraid of an accident.
The sun was blazing, and she quickly broke out in a sweat. But she also felt an icy chill mixing with the pain.
It was obviously summer.
She kept walking, not knowing how long, when suddenly everything went dark, and she lost consciousness.
