Chapter 181: Chapter 181: Chen Chen’s Surgery_1
The second sister-in-law smiled, concealing her own bitterness. "Weren’t you talking with Qi Cheng? Why did you come here?"
"I’m done talking. I came to check in." He looked at the second sister-in-law and then looked at Yunhuan. "Your second sister-in-law hasn’t been in a good mood lately. Help me cheer her up."
"Okay." Ji Yunhuan nodded. Being family, she couldn’t refuse.
Of course, the second brother considered her family; otherwise, he wouldn’t have said such things to her.
The second sister-in-law said: "What’s there to cheer up about? I’m not that fragile."
"Let’s eat! I’m hungry," the second brother said.
The family sat together, and the atmosphere wasn’t that heavy. Knowing they were afraid she would be too worried about Chenchen, Ji Yunhuan felt a sense of unspoken gratitude.
The second brother and second sister-in-law were truly the kind of people who made one feel familial love.
-
The next day, Ji Yunhuan and Qi Cheng went to the hospital early in the morning.
Bai Liyan wasn’t around the entire day. Because the surgery was scheduled for the next morning, he needed time to rest and gather his energy.
Ji Yunhuan and Qi Cheng spent the whole day in the hospital with Chenchen.
Su Zi’s parents were flying in today. Su Zi herself hadn’t shown up until the end.
It seemed she was really mad at Chenchen.
"Chenchen, we’re leaving now. We will come to see you tomorrow, okay?" It was evening, and not wanting to disturb her rest further, Ji Yunhuan and Qi Cheng prepared to leave.
All day long, he didn’t seem to know what he was thinking. Occasionally, when she caught glimpses of him, he was lost in thought.
"Okay, be careful on your way back." Chenchen nodded, reluctantly looking at Ji Yunhuan.
She seemed very unwilling to see her go.
Ji Yunhuan glanced at Qi Cheng. They both left the ward together.
In the car, Ji Yunhuan said, "I think Chenchen is still thinking about Su Zi."
"He should be," Qi Cheng said. "If one day you left me, I would miss you, miss you very much."
"I won’t leave you." She glanced at him with a smile. "I’m waiting to see if you will still love me when I grow old."
He said reassuringly, "That’s good."
"Why won’t you say that you will love me no matter how I change?" Ji Yunhuan looked at him with dissatisfaction.
Sweet talk should be like that, right?
Qi Cheng looked at her coolly and said, "I don’t lie."
"Get lost!" She couldn’t help but smack his arm.
-
The roses on the bedroom table had wilted a bit. Qi Cheng had bought them for Ji Yunhuan a couple of days ago and they had been sitting there since.
On the big bed, Ji Yunhuan leaned against the pillow. Her brows unconsciously knitted, and she grasped Qi Cheng’s hand tightly.
Cold sweat dripped down her forehead, and she mumbled, "Chenchen..."
Qi Cheng was woken up by her noises. He gently held her hand and kissed it, "Yunhuan... Ji Yunhuan..."
She felt as if she were falling from a high cliff, instinctively grabbing Qi Cheng’s hand and gripping it painfully.
Ji Yunhuan opened her eyes, staring at Qi Cheng’s gentle face, dazed for a moment before realizing she had been dreaming.
"Having a nightmare?" He looked at her tenderly.
She sat up dejectedly, "Yes."
Qi Cheng reached out and gently brushed away her hair, pulling her into his arms, "What did you dream about?"
She leaned blankly against him, her heart slowly calming down, "I forgot."
But it wasn’t a good dream.
And she didn’t bother to recall it.
Qi Cheng said, "Dreams reflect our daily thoughts. You are too stressed. When Chenchen gets better, I’ll take you out for a walk."
"I’m fine, Qi Cheng. You don’t always have to worry about me."
"You’re my only wife, who else should I worry about?" He grabbed her hand and placed it on his chest. "Sleep well. It will be bright when you wake up."
"I can’t sleep." She felt like she was being tormented on a bed of knives and fire.
Qi Cheng looked at her and sighed helplessly.
She didn’t sleep all night, and he stayed up with her.
In the early morning, the first to appear in Chenchen’s ward was Bai Liyan.
"Dr. Bai."
Chenchen greeted him.
Bai Liyan said, "I hadn’t seen you all day yesterday. I came to check on you. I missed you dearly."
"Heh..." Chenchen chuckled a bit.
Bai Liyan said, "Su Zi left yesterday."
"I know." Although Ji Yunhuan and Qi Cheng never brought up Su Zi in front of him, he had been keeping an eye on Su Zi’s movements.
"Before leaving, she called me and asked me to tell you that if you get better, she will forgive you for everything you’ve done to her."
A spark of brightness appeared in Chenchen’s confused eyes, followed by a hint of guilt. "I owe her an apology."
"You wanted what’s best for her. She will understand."
"But that day, I still hurt her feelings."
"That’s why you need to get better," Bai Liyan said. "Do you have confidence in yourself?"
"Yes."
"Your sister will be here soon. I need to prepare now. Good luck." Bai Liyan gave Chenchen a thumbs-up.
A smile spread across Chenchen’s face.
Bai Liyan was always very good to Chenchen. Their relationship had long surpassed that of a patient and doctor.
Even when things were tense with Qi Cheng and Ji Yunhuan, Bai Liyan never gave up on Chenchen.
He was kind to Chenchen not just for Qi Cheng’s sake.
At ten in the morning, Chenchen was wheeled into the operating room.
As the doors closed, Ji Yunhuan noticed Su Zi standing in the hallway, and she couldn’t help but be startled. "Weren’t you gone?"
"He’s having surgery. I wanted to be here," Su Zi said.
Qi Cheng regretfully said, "You should have come earlier."
"I came late on purpose. I had Brother Liyan convey my words to him. So, I’ll see him when he gets better." Su Zi looked at Ji Yunhuan, then Qi Cheng, and quietly sat down to the side.
"Your parents left yesterday. Why are you still here?" Qi Cheng asked her.
"I told them my thoughts. They didn’t take me away. They just let me decide for myself," Su Zi said. "I’ve never disobeyed my parents. This is the first time."
Qi Cheng reached out and ruffled her hair, "You did well."
Su Zi pushed his hand away in disdain, "Don’t touch me so easily."
Qi Cheng looked at her, retracting his hand helplessly. "Alright."
The surgery lasted a long time, so long it was unimaginable.
Chenchen’s case was atypical even among the special cases.
Bai Liyan had mentioned there was only a ten percent chance.
Ji Yunhuan’s state of mind was imaginable.
She stood outside the operating room, feeling her heart had never been tormented like this...
At the Qi family’s dining table, there were many people, but the air was quiet. Qi’s mother looked at the second sister-in-law, "I heard your eldest sister-in-law has been getting close to a man recently?"
The second sister-in-law nodded, "That man is quite good, no worse than the eldest brother."
Qi’s mother frowned, "What kind of talk is that?"
