Chapter 173: Chapter 173 He Went Home by Himself_1
This was probably the most straightforward thing Chenchen had ever said.
Su Zi blushed because of him.
She looked at him, only to see him awkwardly look away.
Though this night passed simply, Su Zi still felt unprecedented happiness.
Feeling a bit cold outside, she spoke, "Let’s go inside and sleep! It’s too late."
Chenchen stood up. Su Zi pulled him inward, but he didn’t move. She turned back to look at him, only to bump into his chest.
He held her tight. Her face pressed against his chest.
He could feel the sense of his heart failure. He spoke, "Su Zi, you must be happy!"
Unfortunately, her happiness was destined not to include him.
Su Zi leaned into his embrace, tears falling freely.
She felt a kind of powerlessness and despair she couldn’t even describe.
Her fingers, slender and pale at the knuckles, clutched his clothes.
Feeling her tears, Chenchen paused. He held her shoulders and said, "Actually, I don’t want to eat apples at all. Forcing myself to finish them was just because I had a wish I wanted to fulfill. So, in the future, you must remember what I said to you today."
"Don’t talk as if we’ll never see each other again in the future," Su Zi protested. "Even if I leave, I will come back to find you."
"Mm." He listened, but his heart held no hope.
Although people can’t predict the future, they can somewhat foresee their own fate.
"Let’s go to sleep!" Chenchen looked at her tearful face, feeling powerless.
He didn’t intend to make her cry, but there was no way around it.
Su Zi followed him inside.
In the morning, it had snowed outside. When Su Zi woke up, the first person she saw wasn’t Chenchen but her mother.
She sat up abruptly, her sleepiness vanishing instantly. "Mom, why are you here? Where’s Chenchen?"
Her mother grabbed her hand, trying to calm her down. "They have already taken him away."
"Taken him away?" Su Zi frowned, realizing Chenchen must have gone back to the Qi Family. "But why didn’t he wake me?"
"He called back at two in the morning. He didn’t want to wake you," her mother said helplessly, looking at Su Zi. "Mom knows he’s a good boy, but A’Zi, you two aren’t suitable for each other."
"Chenchen himself called back?" Su Zi looked at her mother in surprise.
Her mother nodded, "Mm."
By that time, everyone had just gone to sleep. Ji Yunhuan received the call. Upon hearing Chenchen’s voice, she couldn’t describe her joy and quickly went out with Qi Cheng. Su Zi’s father and mother, hearing the commotion, naturally also cared about Su Zi’s situation and came out.
When they arrived, Su Zi had already fallen asleep. Chenchen was sitting alone in the living room waiting for them.
"Is his health not good? Is something wrong with him?" Su Zi knew about Chenchen’s poor health but was worried he called home for health reasons.
He must have felt unwell and didn’t want to wake her.
She felt so incompetent for not taking good care of him.
"He’s alright! When I saw him, he seemed okay, only telling us not to disturb you. Then Qi Cheng and the others took him away," her mother said, looking at Su Zi and couldn’t help but reproach her. "Do you know how willful you’ve been this time? A’Zi, you’re a good child, and you should know your parents want the best for you, but what are you doing now? Have you thought about what would happen if something happened because you irresponsibly brought someone out?"
Su Zi didn’t listen to what her mother was saying.
She looked at the paper cranes Chenchen folded for her on the table. "Mom, I really like Chenchen. I want to be with him. We won’t do anything bad; please don’t take me back. I don’t want to leave here. I want to be with him."
Tears welled up in her eyes.
Her mother felt heartbroken seeing this but kept her rationality. "You like him, but that’s just infatuation; that’s not love. You are still young, do you know what love is? Love is a lifelong companionship, not a moment of passion. Being with him in the future would be a burden, and you won’t last long."
"I don’t care! I just want to stay by his side for a few more years. Right now, I’m still young. I have time. I want to be with him. I don’t want to regret it one day," Su Zi pleaded, gripping her mother’s hand. "Mom, please let me be willful this once. I just want to be with him. It’s such a simple request. Can you not agree to it?"
"No, we’ve already booked tickets to go back abroad. We don’t want to delay anymore. What you’ve done this time has made your dad very angry. Look at yourself now, what do you look like? How long have you two been together? What do you know about him? And have you forgotten what happened to your brother?" Her mother, unable to be further persuaded by Su Zi, knew this wasn’t the time to soften her stance.
She would not gamble with her daughter’s future.
"You always say you love me, but you don’t love me at all! My brother can like whoever he wants, but why can’t I?" Su Zi angrily got out of bed.
Her mother looked at her stubborn back, feeling helpless. That sense of sorrow overwhelmed her again. "If I had stopped your brother and not let him come back, we wouldn’t have lost a son. We’re doing this to prevent you from repeating the same mistakes. I don’t understand why, out of everyone, you have to like Ji Yunhuan’s brother?"
"He’s not the same as his sister!" Su Zi couldn’t help but repeat. "They’re not the same!"
"Their last name Ji is our family’s doom. My son has already fallen, and I don’t want my daughter to have the same fate," her mother said, in her eyes, they were the same. "Now your brother is dead, and she married Qi Cheng without hesitation. What does your brother mean to her? With someone so cold-hearted, how good can her brother be?"
"Enough." Su Zi coldly interrupted her mother. "I don’t want to hear you say this. I can see with my own eyes and discern whether the person I like is right or wrong."
"Su Zi!" Her mother wanted to say more.
Su Zi had already pushed open the door and ran out.
She didn’t go anywhere else because she worried about Chenchen. She went straight back to the Qi Residence.
Originally, she thought they would return together, but he came back ahead of her, leaving her behind.
Entering the Qi Residence, she headed directly to the annex. Because of Chenchen’s departure, the servants, who hadn’t slept well for days, stood lined up at the door. "Ms. Su."
"Has Chenchen returned? I want to see him." She walked into the living room. Qi Cheng and her second sister-in-law were seated there. Her second sister-in-law had come over in the morning knowing Chenchen had returned.
Ji Yunhuan came down from upstairs, stopping on the stairs when she saw Su Zi.
She looked at Su Zi with indifferent eyes.
Having just gotten up, when Su Zi arrived, she hadn’t even properly tidied herself. Where was the flawless little princess usually seen?
Her mind was only on Chenchen. She feared something had happened to him, so she rushed over without thinking.
