Chapter 31: Chapter Twenty-Eight
LEO
Erwin and I enter the bustling party hall, followed by our best friends. Instantly everyone in the hall’s head spin toward our direction. I am used to getting attention wherever I go, so it’s not a big deal for me.
"Everyone seems to have a partner." I comment as I look about the hall.
"So do I." Erwin grins. "Would you like something to drink?"
"I don’t do well with alcohol." I ponder over what drink I should choose because my usual drink is caffeine and I don’t drink or eat anything at all in a party. I am not comfortable with it. But I can’t behave like this especially when Ruth is here. He will start with all that healthy bullshit and all if he catches me starving once again.
"Then what about soda?" Erwin suggests.
"Sounds nice." I drawl in approval.
"I will go get it for you." Erwin lets go of my hand, "I won’t take long." He walks away.
Ruth follows suit, "I will bring you drinks too." He waves at John as he tails behind Erwin.
"How is Steve doing, John?" I turn to him to ask the question.
"Hmm, I recently started to make him visit the therapist, just like you advised." John says with a smile on his face.
He seems to be more relaxed today than the other days I have seen him. Maybe I can’t relate to his worry but I still understand the feeling when someone very close to you is suffering and you can do nothing to make them share it with you. That time you feel so guilty and helpless at the same time. One of the worst feelings in the world.
"Hey John! Looking good!" A brown haired girl approaches us, she is wearing a princess-like dress. By her looks it appears that she is beta. "Where is Erwin?"
"Hey Tanya!" Another girl calls after her, lifting her long skirt as she is having difficulty walking fast with these on, "Don’t run hither and thither like an animal." She chides. "O-Oh hey..." She quickly schools her expression.
This second girl is probably an omega.
"Hey, what’s up, Lia and Tanya?" John acknowledges them, "Did you guys come together?"
"Oh yeah." Tanya beams with a smile. "And who is this heavenly man? Your date for the night?"
"You don’t know him?!" John’s eyebrows jump in surprise?
"Who is he?" Tanya squints her eyes to take a better look at me.
I bite my bottom lip to not let it form a smile at her stupidity.
"He_" Lia starts but is cut off by someone.
"My husband." Erwin approaches us, holding two glasses in each of his hands. "Leo Snow."
"And my bestie!" Ruth exclaims happily from Erwin’s side.
When did they get this close? I internally frown.
"Here," Erwin passes me the soda. "And they were my group mates for the project this semester."
"Hello, good evening." I formally greet them.
"You are Leo Snow!" Tanya exclaims as she leans forward to inspect me, I guess? "You are even beautiful up close... Erwin sure did hit a jackpot. I Hope I can manage to find someone like you..."
Erwin clears his throat, his nose scrunched up in distaste. Clearly Tanya is getting on his nerves but she is not aware of it. "Where is Henry by the way?" Erwin attempts to change the subject.
"He is with me." Another female voice approaches us. "Good evening everyone. Enjoying the party?" A girl, wearing a heavy layer of makeup, strides towards us and stops in front of me. She is holding hands with a light-brown haired guy.
"Lucy, what are you doing here?" John asks, his tone dry. Not so-satisfied with the newcomer.
All of a sudden the light, carefree air fills with tension for some reason. Who is this girl? Why does everyone here seem to be so wary of her?
"I just came to greet my ex, John." She emphasizes her statement in a disgusting way.
"We have never dated each other, Lucy." Erwin says pointedly, his voice dark. A hint of warning lingering in his remark.
"But we slept together didn’t we?" She licks her red painted bottom lip.
Disgusting. Now, I understand why everyone appears to dislike her. She is a bitch.
"You must be Leo, right?" Lucy abruptly swings her head toward me, "This man," She points at Erwin with the corner of her eyes, "is a man-whore and so greedy that he can even sell you for money. Do not trust him. A free advice from me."
"Thank you for your advice." I smile mildly, "I will keep that in mind."
"Let’s go Henry." Lucy says, not taking her eyes off me. And they leave.
"I am sorry, Leo." Erwin says apologetically, "I didn’t mean to embarrass you."
I open my mouth to say something but Ruth beats me to it, "What better can we expect from someone like you?" He snips sarcastically.
"As if you are any better." Erwin snaps dryly.
"Huh," Ruth sneers, "As long as my exes are not showing up before my husband and spouting bullshits."
"We are leaving now." Lia says meekly before scurrying off with Tanya in tow in the midst of my husband and best friend’s argument.
"People, chill out." John slips between them, holding out his palms to his sides, gesturing to them to stop, "You guys are embarrassing yourselves."
The alphas stop at this and turn their faces away from each other, "Humph!".
"Now, now, don’t be so mad at each other." John tries to make peace between them, "I have an offer. Care to listen?"
"What is it?" Erwin side-eyes him.
"Hmm, I have got five tickets to Seattle." John seems to be very nervous as he elaborates the details, "So...I can approximately bring three guests with me."
"Wait what?" Erwin spits, brows knitted, "You booked five tickets to Seattle. For what? To start a business?"
Sure thing, John saw that coming so he explains further with forced calm, "Idiot, I have zero desire to do that. And it’s not like I am staying there forever. It’s just my father sent me those to spend my summer vacation..." After a pause he says, "with you of course. And since you are married he sent one for Leo too."
How sweet. These words almost slip through my lips but I restrain them from doing so. But Erwin seems unmoved, which means it is a daily occurance.
"And what about the Seattle logic?" He asks indifferently.
"Well..." John shrugs his shoulders, "This is a mystery. I don’t know myself."
"You are hopeless." Erwin snickers.
"I know right." John scratches the back of his with a smile as if he just got complimented.
What’s happening here? Did the role just get reversed? The same question bunches in Ruth and my mind as our eyes swing between them.
"Will you guys go with me?" John asks with doe eyes, "I don’t want to go there alone. Come with me." He pleads.
"Hmm," Erwin seems to be contemplating the proposal, "why are you asking me asshole? Have I ever said no? I am going with you but I don’t know about Leo. Ask him yourself."
John instantly swings his head toward me, "You will go with me? The more people, the merrier." He grins.
"Hmm, it’s a bit difficult." I try to not look at those innocent eyes, which are full of hope and anticipation, "I have a lot_"
"Please?" John blinks a few times.
"Okay fine." I sigh in defeat.
"I want to come with your guys too." Ruth pipes up from the sidelines. Three of our heads shoot in his direction, "What?" He blinks innocently, "You said you have five tickets. Then one isn’t occupied yet. So let me come with you guys."
Erwin and I open our mouths at the same time but John is faster than us to dig his grave himself, "Okay, it would be fun."
Good. Now what? Knowing Ruth, he will make a perfect use of the opportunity. Crap.
"When are we going then?" Ruth asks smugly.
"This weekend." John says, "It’s a five nights and four days trip."
This is going to be a long vacation.
Just then a soft background music starts to play. Erwin shrugs off the tension and extends a hand to me, slightly bowing. "Let me take you to the dance floor my majesty."
I can’t control myself anymore and let the held back grin finally spreads across my face, baring all my teeth, "Of course." I give my hand to him.
Erwin, I and the other two move to the dance floor.

"Guess I over drank my soda." I mumble to the empty air as I stalk out of the crowded hall.
John told me that the restroom is just around the corner. Erwin left for the restroom just a few minutes ago. I guess I will find him on the way and ask again about the restroom. I studied at MIT, so I don’t know a shit about the college’s layout.
Just as I turn around a corner, my heart sinks to the pit of my stomach as my pinched vision fills with black beads and rage crawls up from the pit of my stomach.
Erwin is kissing that Lia girl from before.
