Chapter 117: Extra-05
LEO
"He is acting like a heartbroken bitch." Ruth’s tone is pissed and very agriverted which is very unusual coming from him, "He is in his room twenty-four-seven and he refuses to eat anything at all." Ruth lets out an exasperated sigh.
Even if I can’t see him through the phone call, I can still tell that, Ruth has bags underneath his eyes and he is as pale as fuck. He is currently arranging everything to move to Boston. Took him long enough but he still wants to move here.
"Any particular reason?" I stroll out to the balcony of the nursery, which is my second bedroom now, I just put Alen and Alex to sleep. "Did he have any breakup or something?"
"Hell no." Ruth retorts, "I’d know if he was."
"Why Ruth?" I lift an eyebrow. This is one of the things I hate about my best friend—his unnecessary infiltration into this brother’s life. "Why do you expect to know every single shit that is going on in Joe’s life?" I counter, "He is an individual person of his own. You can’t just make decisions for him."
"When he stops acting like one, that’s it." Ruth returns pointedly, "He might be grown up now, but he still is a baby inside who can’t take care of himself. It is proven."
"And how?" My lips curl into a snarl.
"The morning after your delivery." Ruth scoffs, "I caught him and Leon in one bed, cuddling. And I can’t even blame Leon because he was just taking care of Joe. And other than that, Joe has been going to his house on a daily basis."
My eyes widen in surprise, "Who told you the last part?"
"Leon did." Ruth shrugs, "Just think how annoyed he was to tell me all his, himself."
I just can’t believe my ears... Leon just pushed Joe away like it was nothing? Like Joe meant nothing to him at all? What the...? There must be something wrong with this... But how do I know?
"It happened almost three weeks ago and you are bothering to tell me all this now?" I snip.
"You have been busy, and you never asked in the first place." Ruth tosses back.
"So since when Joe is acting like this?" I keep my voice as casual as I can.
"About a week." Ruth sighs, "One night he snuck out and then returned, all drenched and looking like someone just broke his heart."
"I see." I nod. Suddenly I hear someone entering the nursery, I look over my shoulder and it’s Steve. "Hey, I will call you back later."
"Got it," Ruth answers shortly and cuts the call.
I walk into the bedroom and I catch Steve as usual staring at the sleeping twins from the corner of their crib. I smile and approach him. He hasn’t grown all that much since we have come to Boston.
"Do you like them?" I ask, my voice soft.
Steve nods, "I do." His eyes are sparkling like stars.
"If you were to choose between them, whom would you choose?" I ask playfully.
"Ash..." Steve mutters but before I can answer my phone rings and I excuse myself to pick up the call.
It’s from Leon’s assistant. And he says that Leon is doing horrible. I mean horrible. This is why his assistant couldn’t help but contact me. Well... I figured as much.
Leon can never be alright after hurting something very precious to himself even f he doesn’t realize that. He tried to escape his feelings by escaping Joe. And now this is hurting both of them. Their relationship is something unnamed, untamed. It starts with uncertainty and ends with hurt.
They both are hurting but none of them can speak up and say that. They are too oblivious to their feelings. Well, it seems like I have to go to New York and give my brother a kick to his as so that he can at last see what he feels.

"I still can’t believe that you flew over the country just to talk to me about some nonsensical bullshits." There is a hint of disbelief and annoyance in Leon’s face, "What did you do to my nephews?"
"Erwin is home," I lean back in my seat, cross my legs, and smile at him, which doesn’t touch my eyes, "Ash and Alen love Erwin’s company. Other than that Ruth and John are there as well. They shouldn’t have any problem handling two-four weeks old infants."
"And why are you running around like this?" Leon lifts an eyebrow, "Shouldn’t you be resting? You look quite healthy for some who gave birth to twins just a few weeks ago."
"Of course I am." My smile widens, "I am always healthy when it comes to handing my brothers their asses."
"What do you mean?" Leon’s eyebrow touches his forehead.
"You know too well what I am talking about, Leon." I pin him with a pointed glare, "I don’t give a fuck what you did to Joe or anything else. But you can’t vent your frustration in your workplace. You can’t yell at your team members. You can’t rebuke your assistant for making mistakes in work which should be done by you. And look at yourself." I skim my eyes over his form, "Look what state you are in. You look completely wasted. Those heavy bags under your eyes prove that you haven’t slept in ages. The redness in your eyes says just how much you have been drinking. Do you think I am blind enough not to see that? Get your shits together, Leon Snow."
Leon clenches his jaw and takes a moment before countering me, "What I do is none of your business, Leo."
"It is my fucking business, Leon." I snap, "I am the chairman of this company and I don’t find your actions beneficial to our company." Then my eyes soften for a fraction, "Why are you hurting yourself, Leon?"
Leon grits his teeth and lowers his head, he doesn’t answer me this time. His disheveled hair are falling over his eyes. It is so hard to recognize him...
"Do you miss him?" I whisper.
Leon pauses and then nods his head, his motion slow and hesitant.
"Then why did you let him go?" I ask, my voice softer, "Why did you move out of your apartment, just to avoid him? Why did you not argue back with Ruth when he took Joe away?"
"I-I don’t know what to do..." His voice shakes as he responds, "I just... just feel so empty inside. It’s like a void inside my chest. All I can think about is Joe... I can’t seem to wrap my head around why..."
"The answer is simple." I smile, "Go see him and you will know just why you are like this. Why pushing him away is breaking you? The solution is simple you know."
"W-Where can I find him?" Leon lifts his head, there are rays of hope in those dark orbs, "Will he see me if I ask him to?"
"This is something that will depend on both of you." I get on my feet, "Whether he will agree to see you or not. In any case, best of luck. My flight is in an hour. Best of luck. And I hope that I don’t get any calls regarding this anymore." I shoot him a smile and walk out of his office.
I have done what I can, now it’s all up to you, Leon.
