Chapter 114: 2nd Side Story-04

JOE

By the time we arrive at Leo’s house, the huge mansion is almost empty. Everyone except Leo’s butler has left the house.

"May I know why the house is empty?" Leon asks, a few lines appearing between his dark brows.

"I am assuming that the young master hasn’t told you that after six every servant of this household is obliged to return to their quarters." The butler answers humbly.

"Then, umm.. May I know why you are here?" I pipe in.

"I was waiting for someone to be back before I got off my shift." The butler answers simply, "Now that young sirs have returned I shall take my leave." The butler bows, "Have a good night, good sirs." The butler leaves through the front door without any single glance backward.

Now this makes the situation a little awkward. I sneak a glance up to the towering man beside me, whose face is as unreadable as ever. This is why I don’t like to be in the same room as this man. He is so fucking difficult to read... I don’t understand after all that shit I sweep whenever I am with him, how does he even tolerate me.

"Joe," Leon suddenly turns to me, making me almost flinch.

"W-What?" I stumble out.

"Do you know where we are going to sleep?" Although Leon is saying something very comical like this, his face isn’t showing any kind of emotion or reaction. So, I am confused how to react to this.

"I-I don’t know?" I answer, clearly confused.

Then it dawns on me. Actually Leon and I didn’t come here to stay for the night. And now that Leo and others are not in the house, no one is here to show us where we are going to sleep or what we are going to eat. I think we have a problem here.

"I will call Warner." Leon pulls out his phone and starts to dial a number.

Leon holds the phone to his ear. The phone rings a few times but no one seems to pick it up. He tries another two times but the attempt to get Erwin through the phone is futile.

"He is not picking up." Leon says, as blandly as ever. From his words it is almost clear that he is tensed about the situation but almost. Because I can’t really see through the poker face he is putting on.

"Let me call John." I suggest as I pull out my phone. And of course to my misfortune, my phone is dead and over that, I don’t have my charger on me. "Err, do you have John’s number?" I look up at the stone standing beside me with the most blank face I have ever seen, "It seems that my battery has died."

"Do I have a reason to keep his number?" Leon asks.

"No?" And I realize how dumb of me it was to ask him the question in the first place. "So what should we do now?"

"Wait." Leon answers as he crosses the room and walks to the couch, "We wait until John has returned." He takes off his perfectly pressed jacket and drops to the couch.

I bite my lip and nod then join him to the couch, keeping a good three feet distance between us. Silence descends between us. I usually talk a lot but for some reason, I can’t find anything to talk about right now, making the situation even more awkward.

"Umm, are you hungry?" I try to start a conversation hesitantly after a while.

"Not really." Leon answers, his tone is as usually bland, "Are you hungry?"

"No." I lie through my teeth. I haven’t eaten anything since this morning. My stomach is particularly a battle field of cats and mouse.

"I see." Leon answers shortly.

Another few beats pass by and suddenly a loud growl from my stomach gives me away. My cheeks turn bright pink and I can do anything to hide my embarrassment.

Leon’s eyes narrow and I sramble to explain myself, "W-Wait it’s—"

"So you are hungry." Leon states, not as a question but as an answer.

"Y-Yes kind of..." I trail off as I lower my head.

After a brief pause he pushes himself up from the couch and starts to walk out of the room.

"Where are you going?" I instinctively raise from the couch and follow him.

Leon doesn’t answer. I walk into a spacious kitchen while following him. Leon rummages through some selves, cupboards and the fridge. Then heat something up and serves it on the kitchen island in front of me.

"Eat." Leon says commandingly.

My jaw drops to the ground but I pick it up and hesitantly pick up the spoon but I pause and look up at him, "You should join me as well."

"You eat first. I will eat later." Leon answers.

I drop the spoon and say, "No. I won’t eat until you join me." I pout slightly."

Leon gives me a brief glance, "Fine." He picks fetch another spoon and joins me.

The food is good. Really good. But for some reason I don’t feel the warmth and freshness I get from Leon’s food.

After dinner, we both return to the living space, on the couch. Silance stretches between us once more but I don’t let it last long.

"So, you are moving to New York?" I ask randomly.

"Temporarily." Leon answers, "I will stay until Leo is back to his feet again. And after handing over the company to him, I will move into my mew apartment."

At the word ’my new apartment’ makes my heart clench, "What do you mean, ’new apartment’? Are you moving out?"

Leon pauses a little then nods, "Yes. I will not be coming back to the ild apartment anymore."

The news has my heart on the grip of sadness. For some reason I want to cry. I don’t want Leon to move out but I don’r say it, "I see. Good for you then."

After this, I don’t even attempt to make any further conversation. I don’t have the hurt when frustration and sadness is gnawing at me.

I don’t want Leon to go. But how am I supposed to say this? And who am I to say this?

A thousand word start to circle around my head and my eyelids start to feel heavy with tiredness. I start to doze off. But suddenly I feel something warm beside me. I lean myself against it and put my head seemingly on its shoulder, letting the warmth embrace me. I am too sleepy to care about who I am leaning on to. I snuggle closer to the warmth and fall asleep.
