Chapter 112: Extra-04

ERWIN

"This soon?!" My eyes widen as I hear Leon over the call.

I am only halfway to my classes when Leon calls me and says that Leo’s water broke.

"Don’t you think this is a bit too early for his water break?" I am already taking a U-turn to my house.

"Warner, do I look like a doctor to you from any angle?" Leon’s tone drips with annoyance, "No. How am I supposed to know how his water broke this early."

"O-Oh I am sorry." I chuckle nervously, "So where are you now? Where is John"

"I am on my way to the hospital with Leo. I don’t know about John. He wasn’t there when it happened." Leon answers, "And I don’t really think his water breaking is a very good thing. He...looks like he is in a lot of pain." Leon’s voice dims at the last part of his statement.

My heart clenches and the earlier bubbling excitement subsides, "He is in pain?"

"A lot in fact." Leon concludes, his tone turning slightly tensed, "In any case, I think you should quickly come here."

"Okay." I nod, the line in my face tightening with seriousness and worry, "I will come directly to the hospital."

"Okay." I can see Leon giving me a curt nod.

I cut the call and, turn the car around once again, this time to the hospital. My heart is hammering in my chest and my fingers tremble as my fist curls around the stirring wheel. Anxiety, worry, and excitement are making it very difficult for me to drive properly. But I keep my gaze straight and try to drive as properly as I can.

I rush through the crowded corridor of the hospital, sweat, and rainwater dripping from my drenched clothes. My heart is pulsing so loudly that I can’t hear it beating in my ears.

I reach the reception, panting, "Leo Snow. Where is he?"

"Excuse me, sir, who are you to him?" The receptionist flinches at my abruptness but quickly composes herself, "Is he any kin of yours?"

"He is my husband." I say hurriedly, "He is pregnant."

"Oh, so you are Erwin Warner?" The receptionist asks, "Leo Snow has been taken to labor, the doctors are trying to help him."

"I want to see him." I request urgently.

"Yes of course." The receptionist calls someone and a nurse arrives almost immediately.

"This way sir." She starts to lead me in a certain way and I start to follow her with a nod and without any question. I am way too worried to ask or comprehend anything.

When I was on my way to the hospital, it started to rain suddenly and then there was an accident in the streets. It was taking a while to lean up the mess so I had to leave my car there and run all the way here. This is why I am all soaked and panting like this.

The nurse lends me some scrubs and needed protection to enter the labor. I wear them like an obedient little boy, my hands still shaking slightly.

We enter the hallway that leads to the labor, I spot Leon.

"You are late, Warner." Leon states coldly, "They are having a problem getting the babies out."

Fear and anxiety grip my heart once more, "W-What are you saying...?"

"Get inside already, Leo is screaming your name like crazy." Leon barks, his composure slipping I can see just how worried he is.

I nod and quickly get inside the door and my heart squeezes tightly. Leo is crying and screaming my name as if I am the breath of his life.

I don’t waste any breath and drop to his side and take his hand into mine, "I am here Leo, I am here. Calm down, okay?"

"Tell him to push harder." The doctor who is attending to him says urgently to me.

"C-can you push a little more?" I urge him softly.

Leo clenches my hands, his nails digging into my flesh, "No more! I can’t! It hurts! Erwin, I can’t take it anymore!" Tears trail down the sides of Leo’s cheek as he screams in agony.

"Just a little, my love. Just a little." My voice crakes as I try to calm him down, it is so hard for me to hold back my tears...

After what seems like an eternity of agony-filled screams and urgent coaxing, the sudden cry of a child stills all of it. Like the storm has stopped. Then another cry joins in. Leo quiets down, panting his eyes unfocused, but still griping my hands like they are his ray of life.

"You are fine, Leo." I kiss his forehead, sweat coating my forehead, "Our babies are here." I whisper into his ears.

I watch doctors as they clean the babies up and hand them to me. I let go of Leo’s limp hand after a warm squeeze and clean my hands vigorously on the hospital scrubs before taking them in my arms. And...

Oh my God...

They are so small, so precious, so mine... and Leo’s...

"They are both males." The doctor speaks in a warm voice, "We will shift the patient to the cabin now. He will need some time before he comes to it."

I nod. But don’t take my eyes off my sons. Their eyes are closed as they sleep peacefully in my arms as if this is the safest place in the entire world. Something warm and proud stirs in my heart. As I look down on them and smile at them. They already are the most precious gift I’d ever possessed.

They shift Leo to the cabin. Leon is sitting beside him as I complete all the formalities and enter the room. Leo is looking very anxious.

Where did you go, Erwin?" Leo asks me anxiously, "Where are the babies?"

"Here." I smile and hand them to him.

Leo takes them from me, "Oh God... they are so small..." I help Leo hold them properly.

Leon also scooches closer to get a better look at the babies, "Heh, what a disappointment, they look like, Warner."

I glare at him but don’t say anything. I drink in the sight of my whole world. My beloved, my babies. Everyone together. They complete me. I take in Leo’s love-filled eyes as he looks at our children. I smile mildly.

"So... what are you guys gonna do about their names?" Leon breaks the loved-filled silence.

Leo and I exchange a look. He is right. We need to give them names. We had a lot of conversations on this topic before but none of them was finalized. Now that we need to name them, my head is empty.

After a moment, Leo speaks up, still not taking his eyes off his sons, "Alen and Ash."
