Chapter 110: 2nd Side Story- 02
LEON
"I believe I have told you a hundred times that there is nothing that I can do about it, Jean," I say firmly as I pour myself a glass of champagne.
"So you switched from ’uncle’ to ’Jean’, huh?" Jean’s raspy voice comes through the phone hooked between my shoulder and ear.
"Oh please will you stop this?" I say, a mild irritation in my tone. "I have already made it clear that you and I have got nothing to do with each other anymore, haven’t I?"
"Yes. You have—"
"Then why do you keep calling me for help?" I take my phone from my shoulder and hold it properly to my ear, feeling a headache blooming in my temple. "Have you got no shame? And how do you always manage to call me from different numbers?"
"Insolent brat..." Jean curses under his breath, "I am your uncle. At least pay me for the things I have done for you."
"Name a thing you actually did for me." I am having a hard time now to maintain my composure. "Everything you have done and will do is solely for you and yourself. So please spare me the false credits that you give yourself for raising me."
"For who do you think you are still the company’s chairman, huh?" Jean bits back. "There is a reason why you and that filthy little omega are blood-related. Ungrateful dogs."
"You got that wrong, Jean." A fire starts to flare inside my chest silently. "Please do remember that you are Leo’s biological father. If he is ungrateful then he got that trait from you." I say pointedly.
"How dare—"
"You don’t have any freaking idea how daring I can be." My tone is curt and dry, "Next time you call me, you will lose the privilege to call anyone at all." I then don’t cut the call but instead, I throw it toward the wall beside my TV. It crosses the room and hits the hard wall with a loud thud. Then falls to the floor, shattered into three pieces.
"Piece of shit..." I curse silently.
Jean has been calling me for three months now from jail. He demands me to get him out of there. Every time I turn him down and block his number that bastard finds a new number and then calls me. This is so fucking annoying...
How does he even get those numbers from? Is that a mobile shop or a jal?
I chug onto the glass in my hand and try to calm myself down but suddenly the doorbell rings and my head snaps in the direction of the front door. I frown a little and then take in a deep breath. I cross my living room as I slide my mask back to its rightful place. I place the crystal glass on top of the kitchen island as I pass it.
I have been having a lot of visitors lately.
I swing open the door and as I was expecting my gut is proven right. The green-eyed tiny man is standing at my door once again. This is the fourth time he has been here this week.
"What do you want this time?" I cross my bare chest and lean against the doorframe. I forgot to put my T-shirt on. And I don’t really regret it. Because of the look Joe has on his face... is priceless.
Flustered, all red, trying to avert his gaze from my body but the attempt is so futile that it is almost laughable.
"C-Could you put some clothes on first..." Joe’s voice is meek and his face is one of the cutest things I have ever seen as his green eyes are darting back and forth from me and the floor.
"Why?" I try to keep the smirk from forming on my face, "I think we can just talk like this and be done with it—" I lean in, my lips inches away from his hair, my hot breath brushing against it, "—Unless you are too temped that you can’t talk to me coherently while seeing me like this?"
Joe turns bright red like a tomato.
He is so cute...
"P-Please put something on..." Joe requests again, his head is hanging low. I can see the blush creeping up his neck.
"Okay." I straighten up and pop some muscles on my neck, "Get in first." I move out of the doorway to let him in. Joe enters and I close the door behind him. I follow him into the living room. "Wait here."
Joe just gives me a light nod in return.
I walk down the hall, step into my room, open the closet, pull out a T-shirt and pull it over my head then go back into the living room.
"What happened to your phone?" Joe asks as soon as I enter the living room, his head is turned toward the broken pieces of my shattered mobile phone lying on the floor a few meters away from him.
"It fell and broke." I speak blandly, "Never mind that. Why are you here again, dear neighbor?"
"Well..." Joe hesitates a little before laughing awkwardly and looking everywhere but my eyes, "I didn’t make dinner today... And I am hungry now."
I raise an eyebrow, "You could just buy something."
"About that..." Joe struggles through another fit of hesitation and then finally says, "I am short on money today. I haven’t gotten paid this month yet."
This scene is so comical that I want to laugh. This man is around the age of Warner, Leo’s husband who is going to be a father in a few weeks. He is such a responsible and caring man... while this man is too lazy to even cook his own food and now begging an alpha to give him some food.
Wow...
"So you want food now?" I say bluntly, trying to control the laughter that is hammering inside me to let it out.
Joe nods jerkily.
I hopelessly give him a look and then serve him dinner that I made just a few minutes ago before Jean called.
"How are you always cooking for two people?" Joe blinks as he drinks in the lavish laid out before him on the tabletop. He slides onto a chair.
"Out of habit." I lie through my teeth, "I don’t like cooking for one person."
One day this guy came to me, begging for food. I had to give him my portion of food that day. So just to be careful I am now cooking for two people.
"I see." Joe is too consumed to detect my obvious lie. "Can I start eating now?" He is already picking up his spoon.
"Go ahead." I slide onto a chair across from him.
I occasionally steal glances from Joe as he enjoys his food. This guy truly is incapable of living alone. He is always here. Like always. Like when he came here to have a movie night with me and then didn’t leave because he was scared that a monster would come out beneath the bed and grab his leg and then pull him to hell with him.
Then when the electricity got cut in his apartment because he forgot to pay the bills in time. And again when he was bored and needed someone to bluff with. This is basically his apartment now and I am just a guest.
But for some reason, I don’t mind his intrusion. I rather like it actually. He talks too much. But I like the way his green eyes shine when he smiles and talks. When he unconsciously let out those pheromones. They are refreshing. Like I am sitting in a green park.
I have no reason for staying in an apartment like this. It is not this apartment is bad or something. But it doesn’t match my class. I shifted to this apartment because I needed to get out of that house desperately and at that time it was my only option. But now I can even buy myself a brand new house. But for some reason, I just don’t want to move out. Not just yet. I wanna relish to the feeling of breathing in fresh wood some more. And then maybe I will leave.
Other than that it will be hard for Joe to live without me. He is way too dependent on me. He needs me to live alone.
Oh, wait, Leon. When did you even start to care about someone else that you have nothing to do about?
Suddenly a voice inside my head hits me hard and it is right. When did I...?
"Umm, your cooking is always the best!" Joe compliments and I snap out of it.
"Is it to your liking?" A ghost of a smile starts to form on my lips.
"Do you even need to ask?" Joe smiles brightly and I get that refreshing feeling again.
"That is good then." I get on my feet and grab the dishes. "What are you doing tomorrow?" I abruptly ask.
"Me?" Joe swings on his seat before humming, "I will go to my work maybe. Why do you ask?"
"I am going to Boston tomorrow." I say, "To see Leo."
And the reply comes at lightning speed, "I will come with you!"
