Chapter 101: Side Story-17
JOHN
"What a pretty little beta he is!" The little woman exclaims lovingly,
"Mommy, will you please stop this?" Ruth scrunches his nose, "He is my boyfriend, you know. And he might not like this."
But truth to be told this one of the warmest hugs anyone has ever given me. Warm, kind, and...motherly. "B-But I don’t dislike it." I try to deny the remark meekly.
"See, Ruru!" The woman, I believe to be Ruth’s omega mother exclaims happily. She is hugging me tighter than before. "He likes it! My son-in-law likes my hugs!"
Ruth and I immediately go red. "Mommy!" Ruth rebukes and Joe snorts.
Steve’s little hand tightens around mine. "What is ’son-in-law’, brother?" He asks me innocently, blinking at me with curiosity in his dark eyes.
"Oh my God!" Ruth’s mommy exclaims in awe as her eyes fall upon the tiny finger standing by my side. She immediately lets go of me and bends down to match Steve’s height, "This little one... is he the brother Ruth mentioned before?" She asks who only she knows, as she doesn’t take her eyes off Steve, amusement and love are glinting in them like stars.
Steve however shrinks behind me, his small hands grasping my clothes tightly.
"Oh God, he is so cute..." She then looks up at me, "He just looks like you, John." She smiles warmly at me.
"Agustha, how long do you plan to keep them waiting at the door? Let them in." Another female voice approaches us, but it’s a bit deep and commanding.
"Oh, my bad, honey." She turns over her shoulder to look at her wife and smiles widely. "Please come in. Come, come." She steps aside from the door and beckons us inside.
"See mom, mommy has forgotten how to treat guests." Ruth chides playfully.
"And she has completely forgotten about me." Joe drags his luggage inside.
I scoop Steve in my arms and step inside the spacious interior of the house. The house is wide and luxurious, it is not just the touch of money but warmth too. I like the environment here.
My house used to feel like a deserted cold island when Erwin left and before Steve came in. Now it feels like an actual home that Ruth is there by my side and Steve is here to remind him that he is the child that every couple wishes for. He reminds me that as long as he is here, we don’t need any babies. He is more than enough for us. More than enough we could ever wish for.
"So you are John?" The bigger woman asks. She is bigger than me. Her presence and dominance are palpable. It’s clear that she is a dominant alpha. Her blond hair is flowing down her back lavishly. Her brown eyes are over us, taking us in. Every little detail.
So Ruth got his second gender and those blond hair from his mom.
"Yes." I answer politely, "I am sorry if I am causing you all too much trouble by coming here. I know this is no place for Steve and me to join. I am sorry for the insolation."
Ruth’s mom stares at me for a bit before saying, "If you know you are a disturbance then why are you here?"
My heart sinks to the pit of my stomach as her words hit me right in the gut, "I-I am sorry?" My face is drained of blood and my expression is of shock. Anxiety and thousands of uncertainties are coiling in my stomach, making me want to throw up.
Ruth’s mom pauses a little, amusement dancing in his brown eyes then bursts out laughing, "Oh my God, Ruth, you found yourself, such a sweet toy!"
"Mom!" Ruth rebukes, "Don’t play with him like this. Look how scared he is!" Then he turns to me and puts his hand on my lower back rubbing my spine gently, "Don’t worry, Mom is just joking. She isn’t serious about any of this shit."
"Ruth, don’t curse." Ruth’s other mother; Augustha chides as she makes small chats with Joe about his well-being and other things. "You are a doctor!"
"Mommy, it doesn’t matter if I am a doctor or not." He returns, "I can curse however I want! And say something to Mom. She is scaring, John!"
"Honey!" Augustha yells at her wife, "This is how you treat your son-in-law?"
"I am sorry, I am sorry." Ruth’s mom says while pressing her lips together, trying to suppress her laughter but the violent shaking of her shoulders is giving him away, "I won’t do it again."
"Well, I am not married to Ruth..." I claim meekly at the room stills for a moment and everyone’s eyes fall over me then everyone bursts out laughing.
"What are you talking about, John?" Joe asks, laughing. "You are already a member of this household and Steve too nor why would we bring you here in the first place? Now just wait for the wedding rings and vows."
I turn red in embarrassment. I am sure, right now I resemble a tomato. "I-I don’t know what to say..."
"Then don’t say anything." Ruth ruffles Steve’s hair and then takes him from me. He set him on his arm. "Steve, do you mind living with us in here?" He asks, his voice calm and warm.
Steve looks at me for a bit then asks back, "Will brother be staying here too?"
"Of course, he will." Augustha chimes in happily, "He will be our son, and you too."
"Son?" Steve tilts his head, "But you are not my mother. I don’t have a mother."
The room falls quiet for a moment. I feel so bad for this little soul. Just thinking that this little boy is growing up without a mother or a father or a proper family, makes my heart squeeze painfully. I don’t know how to give him a proper family. I don’t know how to make me feel loved the way he should.
"You have a mother now." Augustha gives him a small smile and approaches him to ruffle and caresses his face lovingly, "Your brother will marry my son and become my son and you will become my son too. I am gonna be your mom and she is gonna be your dad." She winks at her wife.
"But how can she be a dad?" Steve blinks, "She is a woman too."
Everyone chuckles at his wife, "Well you see little body," Joe pipes in, "She may be a woman but she is better than any man. This is why she is gonna be your dad."
"Oh..." Steve nods in understanding, "I see." Only God knows what he understood and he sees but I am not about to ask him that.
"Okay then," Ruth’s mom claps and makes everyone’s attention turn to her, "Ruth take John to your room and I think little buddy can share the bed with this brother" -She points at Joe- "can’t you, little buddy?"
"My name is not "Little Buddy", Dad," Steve says, his head raised high in Ruth’s arms, "My name is Steve, Steve Goodie. Brother told me the last part and yes I can sleep with Green-brother."
Everyone’s jaw falls to the ground at his tiny words. Steve is something else...
After a brief moment, Ruth’s mom clears her throat more loudly than necessary, "Okay, then, everyone go to your rooms and get washed up before dinner."
Ruth leads us up to the stairs. After we reach the second floor, Joe takes Steve from me and retreats to his room. Then Ruth leads me toward a closed door. Seemingly his room. I am actually quite eager to see his room. I want to know what his actual room looks like. I want to know, the place where he spent his whole childhood. Where he spent his teenage. Where he was only him.
"My room is nothing special, please don’t mind." Ruth swings open the white wooden door.
My eyes widen in surprise. Everything. Everything about this room is special. Every single corner of the room. There are a few trophies and toys set up on his desk. There are so many pictures hung on his wall. There are some with his whole family, some where he is alone, and some, where he is with Leo. My eyes dart over the warm room that has been taken care of like he still lives here.
My heart swells with emotion. I enter the room slowly, taking it in.
Ruth loves his family so much...
Ruth closes the door behind him and enters the room. "Do you like my room?"
I look at him and smile, "I love it."
Ruth sighs in relief and smiles as he takes my hands in his, "John, I am really sorry for my parent’s earlier behavior. They are actually good people. They just tend to be very clingy and playful."
"It’s okay." I shake my head and say, "I am fine with it. And I think you take after your mothers so much." I smile.
"I know I do." he chuckles, "But I am not as clingy as them."
"Look who is talking," I say playfully.
Ruth giggles and then his eyes soften, "So what do you think? Would you like to call my parents mother-in-laws?"
I pause a little and then a warm smile spreads across my face, "I would love to!"
