Chapter 423: Why Didn’t You Invite Your Good Friend?

Chapter 423: Why Didn’t You Invite Your Good Friend?

"Of course I’m not on the guest list."

But Selina didn’t even blink. "I don’t need an invitation for Riley. If you don’t believe me, go ask her right now. See if she lets me in."

Luke was getting more and more worried. He tugged at her sleeve and whispered, "Selina, maybe we should think of another plan!"

Just to get in, she was calling Riley all sweet and friendly like that? Selina was really sacrificing herself!

But Selina just curved her lips into a smile and turned to the guard. "Why don’t you go ask her now? I’ll wait here. My name’s Selina. Just tell Miss Nelson—I’m sure she’ll let me in."

The security guard hesitated.

He didn’t dare disturb Miss Nelson, but he also didn’t want to piss off this woman in front of him—Selina and Luke might be dressed casually, but he’d worked security at this club long enough to know the difference. Their clothes and bearing weren’t exactly ordinary.

Just then, a manager-looking guy walked over, scratching his head. "Selina...I think I heard Young Master Hunter mention that name before."

Hearing that, the guard didn’t dare block them anymore. "Miss, please go ahead."

Selina nodded slightly and walked in with Luke as if they owned the place.

Luke was completely stunned. "..."

That worked?!

"I thought CY Club had the best security in the city? What the—?"

Selina nodded calmly. "They do have the best security. So, you ready?"

Luke blinked. "Re—ready for what?"

Selina gave him an innocent look. "We can fool one guard. We can’t fool the entire security team. They’ll figure it out fast. So..."

She tilted her head, smiling sweetly. "Run."

Luke: "..."

He turned and saw the guards rushing after them. "Aaaaah!"

He tore after Selina, dodging left and right through the hallways until they burst in front of the biggest private room. Luke was so hyped and breathless he forgot to ask—how the hell did Selina know this club’s layout so well?

...

Inside the VIP room.

When the guards’ voices were heard outside, everyone’s faces turned a little dark.

Only Logan looked utterly unconcerned, swirling his wine glass.

Scott frowned. "Someone’s trying to force their way in?"

Riley’s expression shifted, something flashing in her eyes, but she smoothed it over quickly. She gave an apologetic little sigh. "It’s probably just an old customer. Don’t worry about it. Let’s just—"

BAM!

The door burst open.

Everyone turned, frowning. Scott was about to scold whoever the hell was barging in like this when he spotted Luke behind the woman in front. "...Luke?"

Luke didn’t answer.

While everyone was frozen, Selina’s gaze flicked over the crowd and landed in the corner. She crooked her finger.

"Logan."

Scott was about to sneer—who did this woman think she was, beckoning to Logan like he was some kind of dog? Logan would never—

And then Logan stood up.

Everyone: Holy shit.

Logan’s lips curved in obvious amusement. "Sorry, my wife’s here for me."

He didn’t even look at anyone else, just took Selina’s hand. "Shall we go home?"

Riley’s face went through about three different colors. She’d begged her brother to invite Logan to her birthday party. He’d only just sat down, and now he was leaving?!

"Wait."

But Selina didn’t move. Instead she smiled slowly. "Logan, you booked the whole place for the night. Wouldn’t it be too much of a waste to just leave now?"

Everyone exchanged confused looks.

Riley bit her lip, forcing herself to calm down before managing a confused, innocent face. "Selina, what are you talking about? It’s my birthday. Why would Logan be the one paying for this? Even if we’re close, I wouldn’t let him spend money on me."

"Oh...is that so?"

Selina’s tone was layered with meaning. "Funny, because that’s not what everyone else is saying. It’s all over the social scene."

She pulled out her phone and slowly, deliberately, read out loud from one of the posts.

"Sharing Mr. Hanks’ post: Today, Mr. Reid reserved the entire CY Club for Miss Nelson. Hm...Mr. Hanks, who is he again? Wasn’t he here too? I mean, everyone who was there says so. How could I not believe it?"

Logan narrowed his eyes and turned them on Scott.

Scott froze for a couple of seconds. Wait, wasn’t Logan the one who reserved the place? But Riley had said—

Wait. Riley had only said: "Every time Logan comes here, he books the whole place."

She’d never actually said he’d done it today.

Scott felt like an idiot for misunderstanding. But he’d known Riley since they were kids; he didn’t think she’d deliberately mislead him. He gave Logan an awkward apology. "Sorry, Logan. My mistake."

Still, he knew Riley wanted Logan to stay. So he tried to help. "But Logan—you came back early from Country Y just to make her birthday. You’re leaving already? At least stay for some cake."

Logan’s gaze darkened, but Selina answered for him. "Good point. Might as well stay. Miss Nelson went to all this trouble with the cake. Wouldn’t it be rude to waste it?"

Logan’s steps paused. "...Fine."

Riley hadn’t even had a chance to speak before she saw Selina casually follow him inside.

Riley’s smile was cracking at the edges. "Selina, why’d you suddenly come by?"

"To celebrate your birthday, of course."

Selina walked right over to the sofa and sat down as if she owned it, blinking innocently. "Why would you ask that? I just figured you forgot to send me the invite. Unless...you never planned to invite me at all?"

Riley’s mouth opened. She was about to explain when—

Selina’s tone sharpened, but her smile didn’t fade. "But didn’t you say we’re such good friends? If we’re such good friends, why would you invite my husband to your birthday, but not me?"

The room went dead silent. Everyone’s eyes slowly turned to Riley.

Riley’s expression faltered. She cursed inwardly, but forced a gentle, apologetic look.

"Selina, it’s not that I wasn’t inviting you—I just hadn’t had a chance to call yet."

"Oh, good." Selina nodded sweetly. "Then carry on. Don’t mind me."

Riley’s smile was stretched so tight it might break. She scrambled to change the subject. "Luke! Sit down. What do you want to drink?"

Luke: "..." Lady, do I look like I want to talk right now?

Logan walked over and lowered his voice by Selina’s ear. "Mrs. Reid. Are you mad?"

Selina was peeling a grape. She paused, looked at him, and then gave him a sly smile. "We’ll talk about it at home, okay? It’s Miss Nelson’s birthday. Let’s not embarrass her."

Logan was silent for a moment. "...Maybe you could give me a chance?"

Selina put on an overly serious face and shook her head. "Some things can’t be discussed here."

Luke felt a chill crawl up his spine. "!"

Logan—watch out!
