Chapter 421: Be Sure to Miss Me

Hannah was waiting for Selina’s answer.

Selina found it odd. This Miss Hill acted all gentle and polite with everyone else—so why was there such an edge to the way she spoke to her?

Most people, when hearing the word "stepmother," would react with either delight or fury.

If it were Kyle here instead of her, he probably would’ve punched someone already.

Did Hannah not realize that? No—she understood it perfectly. That’s why she wasn’t provoking Kyle, but Selina.

Joe was moved by Hannah’s words. "That’s right, Selina, I and your Aunt Hill..."

"You’re overthinking it. Why would I care?"

Selina suddenly curved her lips into a smile. "My name’s not even on the Morris Family household registry. Does Chairman Morris really need my permission to get married?"

Joe opened his mouth, but Selina cut in again. "Besides..."

She couldn’t help but laugh lightly.

"Besides, my mom and Chairman Morris never even got married. Technically speaking, Chairman Morris isn’t a widower—he’s single. Miss Hill, if you want to marry him, it really has nothing to do with me."

The room fell noticeably silent.

Joe looked as if he’d just heard something completely unacceptable. His face went pale.

Hannah’s smile was about to crack. "Selina..."

"So I sincerely wish you both a long and happy marriage."

Selina gave a deliberately kind smile. "Actually, Miss Hill, I should be thanking you."

Hannah’s eyes flickered.

Selina went on:"See, my mom never loved Chairman Morris. She didn’t even like the Morris Family. She’d rather run away than marry him. But Chairman Morris was so fixated he made everyone think she was Mrs. Morris."

"Now that Miss Hill is here, it proves Mrs. Morris was someone else all along. Miss Hill gets what she wants, and my mom can finally drop that unwanted title."

Hannah’s expression froze, her throat tight. "Selina, you’re being ridiculous..."

"Miss Hill, why do you look so unhappy?" Selina asked with fake innocence.

"My mom’s not Mrs. Morris, and I even gave you my blessing. But you seem even more upset. That’s so strange."

Hannah nearly bit through her tongue, swallowing her irritation. "No, it’s nothing. Thank you, Selina."

"Good. Did you see any bags you liked? As the younger generation, I should buy you one. A small token of thanks for freeing my mom from all this."

The more sincere Selina sounded, the stiffer Hannah’s face became.

Her smile was on the verge of collapse. "...No need, Selina. Actually, I just remembered I have something to do. I’ll head out now."

Selina beamed. "Take care, Miss Hill! Come again anytime~"

Hannah picked up her pace like something was chasing her.

Grandma Morris was so angry she nearly fainted, hurrying after her.

Joe stood there, wanting to explain, voice tight with panic. "Selina, listen to me—I never planned on marrying anyone else..."

Selina didn’t even look at him. "See them out."

Joe looked frantic, still trying to speak, but the bodyguards firmly ushered him away.

Under Selina’s prior instructions, the bodyguard took the opportunity to secretly pull out a few of Joe’s hairs when he drove Joe away.

She tucked them away carefully and then pulled out a few of her own.

"Mr. Brooks, take these to the Foster Family. Make sure my second brother gets them himself—I want a paternity test."

Other hospitals might be compromised, but the Foster Family were her people. She could trust the result from them.

Mr. Brooks nodded immediately.

"Joe really doesn’t seem like your biological father."

Logan narrowed his eyes. "He and Kyle share some features. But with you—your looks, your personality—there’s no resemblance at all."

Selina nodded, frowning. "That’s exactly what’s weird. Why does the whole Morris Family think I’m Joe’s daughter? Even Grandma Morris never questioned it."

But deep down, she really felt she wasn’t. Her intuition was rarely wrong...

"Forget it. Let’s just wait for the paternity test results before talking any further."

"That Mrs. Hill is strange."

Logan’s tone was meaningful. "The Hill family only changed heads in the past couple of years. At least five years ago, Mrs. Hill was City N’s number one socialite. She had countless suitors, her father Matt was the family head, and she had her pick of the city’s elite."

"But she sifted through all those options and chose Joe."

Selina was curious. "What did Old Mr. Hill say about it?"

Logan raised an eyebrow. "Joe already had a son, and even an illegitimate daughter somewhere out there. Of course Old Mr. Hill was against Hannah marrying him. But somehow, he completely changed his mind and personally approved the match."

"To outsiders, Joe was way out of her league. The Morris-Hill marriage was a stretch even as a business alliance. And Hannah had never been married before, while Joe had kids."

Selina’s eyes flickered. Yeah. It was strange.

And she had a weird feeling about it all. Like Hannah hadn’t done all this out of love for Joe. It was as if she just wanted to steal everything from Selina’s mother—

Because Joe was her mother’s "husband," so Hannah had to become Joe’s wife.

Selina clicked her tongue, annoyed at herself. Where had that thought even come from?

Before she could think it through, a few manager types came in and out. Selina signed a ton of documents, discussed the new quarter’s plans, and when she snapped back to awareness, two hours had flown by.

She turned her head and suddenly saw Logan leaning against the corner wall. She felt a pang of guilt.

"...No wonder I kept feeling like I was forgetting something. I forgot my husband!"

She cleared her throat and tried to sound casual. "Right. Logan. Why are you here?"

"Came to say goodbye to Mrs. Reid."

Selina’s eyes widened. "What?!"

"Four p.m. flight. Heading to Country Y. Told you last night."

Logan’s lips curved into a deeper smile, voice warm and close. "I thought you’d remember."

Selina: "!"

He had kind of mentioned it last night—but under the circumstances...was it really so strange she forgot?

Her voice wavered, sounding guilty. "How...how long will you be gone?"

"A week."

Selina was surprised. That long? For Logan to personally attend a meeting that needed a whole week, it had to be important.

"It’s a bit cold in Country Y right now. Did you pack?"

"Jack will handle it."

Selina nodded. "Make sure to get enough rest over there, they—"

"Mrs. Reid," Logan suddenly interrupted. "Don’t you have anything else you want to say to me?"

Selina blinked, confused.

Wasn’t she already showing concern? What else did he want?

Seeing her baffled expression, Logan took a deep breath, stepped forward, and pulled her into his arms.

Selina felt suffocated by the force of the hug—it was like he wanted to fuse her into his bones.

After a long moment, he finally spoke softly: "Miss me."
