Chapter 408: Even If the Child Isn’t Perfect, a Mother Still Cares
Star? What Star... Why are all these people defending Selina like this?!
Selina chuckled softly. "Deputy Director, don’t be mad. My dear second brother here has been very well protected by the Reid Family all these years—he just doesn’t really get it."
The deputy director sneered, clearly disgusted.
"I don’t know what the Reid Family is thinking, handing over the business to this kind of loser. Not afraid of going bankrupt, I guess."
Owen’s face turned bright red. He clenched his fists. After a long pause, he forced a few words out through gritted teeth: "Heh... who would’ve thought my sister-in-law was this... tal-en-ted."
Selina gave a light nod. "Since you’re aware now..."
She turned to Jett and said casually, "Then what are you two still doing here?"
Owen: "..."
He was fuming.
But the words "may the best person take the job" had come out of his own mouth.
"Fine! Then I wish my dear sister-in-law continued success in being this arrogant. We’re leaving!"
Jett followed Owen out unwillingly. He had thought the design department director position was already in the bag.
Too bad—it was all ruined by that woman named Selina.
As the two walked away, Selina raised an eyebrow and pulled out her phone to call Logan.
...
Meanwhile, at the Perry Family estate—
Grandpa Perry sat at the head of the room.
Amelia said with false warmth, "Logan, there’s a small family matter we’d like your input on."
Logan didn’t even glance her way.
Amelia’s smile twitched slightly, but she swallowed her irritation and went on, voice full of implication:
"Logan, Owen is my sister’s biological son. She didn’t know that when she passed, so all her inheritance was left to you. But now that the truth is out, we can’t just let Owen be left out, can we? We’ve decided to redistribute her estate. What do you think?"
Logan’s expression turned cold. His eyes narrowed sharply as they flicked toward Grandpa Perry.
For reasons he couldn’t explain, despite being the elder, Grandpa Perry flinched under Logan’s gaze.
Logan turned back calmly. "Does Grandma know about this?"
Grandpa Perry’s face tightened. Amelia quickly jumped in, "Logan, don’t be unreasonable. Your grandfather handles the family affairs. Do you really need to go bother your grandmother over something so minor? You know she’s not in good health."
"I’d advise the old man to bring this up with Grandma himself," Logan said coolly. "After all, Grandma only had one daughter—Ms. Anna."
Grandpa Perry’s face froze on the spot.
Everyone knew: Grandma Perry had only one biological daughter—Anna. But he had a pile of illegitimate children and adopted daughters. Logan was clearly throwing shade.
After Anna ’disappeared,’ he took advantage of Grandma’s illness to bring all the illegitimate sons home—and had Amelia replace Anna’s identity.
Now that Grandma was out of power and Anna had died, no one dared bring up the past...
Except Logan.
Furious, Grandpa Perry shot to his feet.
"She doesn’t get a say! Owen is Anna’s son—her grandson! This matter is settled!"
"Logan, why do you always have to upset your grandfather the moment you walk in?" Amelia chimed in, feigning disappointment—though her barely-concealed glee said otherwise.
"But don’t worry," she added smugly. "I’ve already made the decision for you."
"Your grandfather said it clearly: either the inheritance gets split, or you divorce Selina."
"I know you two are just so in love, so I chose on your behalf—redistribute the inheritance. I’m sure you’ll agree, right?"
She sighed dramatically.
"Owen is my sister’s real son. I already failed her... and you—well, you’re just a bastard. You failed her too. Don’t you feel the slightest guilt keeping her fortune?"
Amelia thought her plan was flawless.
She’d force Logan to give up Anna’s inheritance for Selina’s sake.
Maybe he wouldn’t feel anything now.
But one day—when Owen inherited the Perry Family estate—would Logan grow to resent Selina?
After all, all of it was rightfully his.
And he gave it up... for a woman.
She wanted the children of the two women she hated most... to tear each other apart.
Encouraged by that thought, Amelia pushed further.
"Logan, this is for your own good. This way, you’ll still have a place in both the Reid and Perry families. We’ll be hosting a grand banquet at the Pear Blossom Estate soon. All you have to do is publicly say at the banquet that you’re willingly giving up—"
"Sure." Before Amelia could finish, Logan nodded calmly.
She froze mid-sentence. "Wait... what did you just say?!"
"Didn’t you say the banquet would be held at the Pear Blossom Estate?" Logan replied evenly. "I agreed."
Amelia was stunned.
She never thought Logan would agree that easily!
The Pear Blossom Estate was the biggest asset Anna had left Logan. And now... Logan was just handing it over?
Amelia was suspicious—this had to be a trap. But even if it was... so what?
Once she had the Pear Blossom Estate, what could Logan possibly do? Go up against the entire Perry Family?
Let him act smug for now.
He wouldn’t be smug for long.
...
Logan left the room but didn’t go far.
Instead, he walked to Grandma Perry’s courtyard.
She didn’t mince words.
"They want to take what Anna left you. I won’t let that happen."
Logan smiled slightly.
"The Perry Family has gone this far. To them, your consent doesn’t matter anymore."
Grandma Perry clenched her jaw.
"And they’re doing this just as Anna’s death anniversary approaches... This is beyond disgraceful."
She still held shares and assets that gave her power within the Perry Family. But the old man—along with his beloved adopted daughter—had pulled the entire family together to squeeze out every last bit of value from Anna.
And what had they said?
—"Anna’s dead. Who cares what she wanted? It’s not like she’ll ever know."
—"Owen is Anna’s biological son, isn’t he? You always loved Anna. So why not love her son, too?"
—"Yes, it was my fault Anna went missing as a child. But didn’t I bring back Amelia to make it up to you? She’s a thousand times better than that useless girl. I gave you a better daughter—why aren’t you grateful?"
Everyone praised Amelia, the adopted daughter.
It was like they were hypnotized—convinced she was superior, that the real daughter deserved to be lost, to disappear.
They said Anna had no manners.
They said she should’ve died out there.
They said if she wasn’t as good as Amelia, then she should never have returned and embarrassed the Perry Family.
—"It’s all for the good of the Perry Family!"
Everyone told Grandma Perry to give up on her own child... and love the girl who stole everything from her instead.
Because Amelia was "better."
Because she was trained by the Perry Family.
Because she wouldn’t "ruin the family name."
But none of them had ever stopped to think—
Anna was her daughter.
The child she carried for ten months.
She didn’t care about status, wealth, or appearances.
She just wanted her daughter to be happy... to be alive.
Suddenly, Logan lowered his eyes.
"Grandma..."
