Marriage Alliance With The Lycan Monarch
Chapter 78: I’II Always Choose Her

Chapter 78: I’II Always Choose Her

I hated how perceptive Garrick was. There was a reason he was my Beta and trusted advisor.

But I couldn’t confide in him with this. This was a sensitive situation that was meant to be kept under utmost secrecy. It wasn’t something I could just share with anyone.

Lycans had an intense hatred for the snowbloods, and if Eloise really was one, it could cause an uproar.

Ravyn, on the other hand, was the one person who didn’t see the world like we do. Even though she served me well in battle by uprooting our enemies, her view of the world was dynamic.

I could still remember our exchange.

A Few Days Ago

Ravyn’s teacup stopped midway to her lips after I told her about Eloise.

A frown twisted on her face. "Is this some kind of joke?"

"No," I replied sternly, watching her with a quiet, lethal stare, a ghostly glow to my crimson eyes.

I have confided in her, but I also intimidated her, in case she reacted in a way I didn’t expect.

A realization struck me, it chilled my bones and thrilled me just the same. I was willing to put Ravyn down if she showed hostility toward Eloise.

"Then you should’ve killed her the moment you saw her fangs." She pointed a finger at me. "That should’ve been the instinct."

"Yes, I should have, but I didn’t."

She took a sip from her tea, remaining calm. "She’s a snowblood."

"It’s not quite clear yet."

"And if it is? Are you really going to share a bed with a fucking snowblood? You slaughtered millions of them on the battlefield. I wonder how you can remain lucid with this."

I wonder too, but in spite of this shocking discovery, my feelings for Eloise haven’t changed; it has only gotten stronger.

"Ravyn," I began in a tone of frost. "Do I need to shut your mouth forever, or are you willing to cooperate?"

She barked a laugh, completely amused. "Goddess! I wonder what hex she used on our Alpha. You’re so obsessed with your human. To the point you turn a blind eye to what she could truly be. The species you hate with every fiber of your being."

I said nothing.

"So..." she began, placing her teacup on her saucer. "You saw her fangs, was that it?"

"Yes."

"Hmm, truly bizarre. She does have the scent of a human, and nothing is out of the ordinary. Are you sure you saw them?"

"Garrick can’t read her pulse. I thought it only had to do with her lingering ailment, but after this, I know why."

"Her blood is snow," Ravyn said.

"Her blood is snow," I reprised.

"Odd, she is one of them, but at the same time not? Do you know anything about her background?"

"It’s what I intend to find out when I get back to the castle. There has to be an explanation for it."

"I don’t have it. Why come to me? I’m just as confused as you."

"You do not follow the way a predator like us thinks. Our instinct is to kill, hunt, and fuck. We’re only established because of the years we have spent adjusting to this realm. Vampires, snowblood, whatever they are called throughout history... our primal instinct tells us to hunt them down and lay waste; we’re dominators." I uncrossed my legs and rested my arms on my knees. "I’m a dominator."

"What does your primal instinct tell you when it comes to Eloise?" Ravyn asked in a serious tone.

"You wouldn’t believe me if I told you."

"Try me, after all, you sought me out for this."

"My primal instinct doesn’t tell me to kill her like I would do an enemy." My gaze softened. "I want to shield her, mark her, and own her."

"Mark her?"

"Surprised?"

"That urge is only made toward our kin. We mark those we chose as our mate. Even though you chose Eloise, you shouldn’t have that urge. She’s human, snowblood or whatever, not our kin."

I rubbed my forehead and leaned back on the chair. "You have no idea how this confuses me more."

"Try the ancient texts."

"It’s lost."

"Then find it. You’re the monarch, you can do whatever the hell you want, just give the order."

She was right. I could uncover the ancient texts after thousands of years of being buried. They were parchments depicting our histories of both snowblood and moonblood. No other monarch has even thought about uncovering it because of the many drastic changes over the years. We have forgotten the old ways and made a new one.

"Maybe I could find out what’s wrong with Diana, too."

"Diana? What happened to her?"

~•~

I told her about Diana. After a few more discussions, Ravyn had yet to give me an answer about becoming Eloise’s ally.

"Tell me, Garrick. How would you react when something you hold dear to your heart becomes something far more complicated?"

"Talia is human," Garrick replied. "That is complicated."

"Yes... Then I chose my words unwisely." I looked at him from the corner of my eye. "What if it becomes forbidden?"

"Knowing you, my liege. When have you not had the taste for the forbidden? You’re the first Lycan in history to marry a human."

I smiled. "I’ll always choose her, Garrick. I’m letting you know this so that in the future, when you look me in the eyes and ask me why, you will know nothing will ever take Eloise from me."

Garick looked at me in confusion, but I simply rose to my feet.

"Make the research on what I told you about. Dig out the ancient texts and don’t center it on moonbloods only, but snowbloods. I want the withered scrolls on my desk by the end of this season."

"It will be difficult to acquire that; many were lost during the war."

"Dig them out, you’re up for the task, aren’t you?"

Garrick exhaled. "As you wish, my liege."
