Marriage Alliance With The Lycan Monarch -
Chapter 74: Ravyn
Chapter 74: Ravyn
Just speaking about him made the chills run down my spine.
"Not so much a thought about him."
"Do you hate him?"
"He has always been difficult."
That was all Drevon said on that matter, and I respected that. I, of course, didn’t want to hear about that horrid man.
After a while, we got to a lonely alley. We walked through it to a river with a stone bridge. Up ahead, there was a place that looked like a castle keep, surrounded by trees.
"What is that place?" I asked as we walked the bridge.
"An old friend of mine lives here, who served in my army. Didn’t want to stay by my side and decided to come here to have nothing to do with the crown."
That sounds like an interesting person.
At the sound of a splash, I turned, hoping to see a fish breaking the surface for air, but found a person inside.
"Oh my gods! Is she dead?!" I exclaimed, jumping closer to Drevon, who laughed at my outburst.
"I-It’s not funny!"
"Still have this habit of yours," Drevon said, resting his hand on the parapet.
The woman who was floating straightened her position. Her wet, golden hair was short, framing her forehead thickly. She had golden eyes, too. She was in pants and a linen shirt.
"Well, well, well, the monarch comes down from his high castle to see dear old me," she said in a far more masculine voice.
I never knew a lady could have such bass in their voice. Come to think of it, she looked nothing of the sort, too, more manly, with her sleeves up.
"Of course I would, did you not miss me?" Drevon teased.
She snorted with a grimace. "Why would I miss a piece of shit like you?" She rose to her feet.
"Come on, admit it."
She bared her teeth at him.
I blinked, trying to comprehend their exchange.
"Oh lookie here."
I gasped when she was suddenly in front of me, crouching on the parapet.
She sniffed me like a dog, and I squealed, moving away to Drevon to place a hand on my waist.
"Oh... the human. I haven’t met you yet because I left the war front back in Beloria before this son of a bitch married you. Nice perfume by the way."
She’s very vague, isn’t she?
"Eloise, don’t mind her words or behavior; it’s just Ravyn."
Ravyn grinned at me, showing her canines that were prominent, not sharp, and dropping down to her lower lip as Drevon’s had that day, but it gave her teeth a distinctive outlook.
"Ravyn was one of my advisors in war. She’s my childhood friend, too. We rode for war the same day."
"Pleased to meet you, gorgeous." She leaped off the parapet and walked to me, taking my hand and giving a kiss. "I see why our monarch thinks with his cock."
"And I can see why you speak so boisterously as you look."
Ravyn laughed. "I like her already. If Drevon hadn’t claimed you, I would have in a heartbeat." She winked.
A blush found my cheeks, and I got speechless.
"So tell me what you’re doing so far out, monarch. This is not a place for you," Ravyn said, walking ahead, taking her shirt off.
I half expected her to turn up half-naked, but she had a dressing covering her chest.
"I have come to ask for your service."
"Tsk! Damn Alpha, I gave you my service for more than twenty years, and you dare ask for more?"
"Maybe I wasn’t very clear."
"Then be clear." She pushed open the wrought iron gate, and we stepped into a compound.
"Lady Ravyn." A butler standing close to the water fountain bowed before handing her a towel and taking her wet shirt.
"I have come to personally ask that you join my wife’s court."
I froze and snapped my gaze at Drevon. "What?"
"Oh... that sounds very bizarre," Ravyn replied, amused.
"My liege," I said softly.
"Your house is under no influence."
"So you want to covet me? Why not for yourself? The rumor has it that you have dismissed your father’s court after they caused harm to your wife."
What?!
"My armies are my allies now."
"Smart move. I thought you would have done that earlier. Your father’s court is strangers and has no idea how your mind works. With your armies, you have more of a pack than a court. Their strength will make you a tyrant, or say the most powerful Lycan Monarch in all our histories."
"The houses I dismissed has already been absorbed by my mother."
"That woman was always so sly. Even in indefinite confinement, that can’t stop her from pulling the strings."
This was all too much to take in. I knew there had been unrest in the castle, but I was too busy recovering to ask what really happened.
I can’t believe something like that did. Drevon made such drastic changes and decisions for me. I felt like a burden.
Drevon wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me close. "Join Eloise’s court, and we have the full power we need. I shall merge my allies with hers, too, Diana seemed to agree."
"Hmm... giving a human that much power will raise her to Queen consort in no time."
"I don’t want to be Queen Consort!" I blurted.
"You don’t?" Drevon asked.
I pulled away from him. "Don’t you think you should have discussed this with me first?"
He smiled. "I didn’t come here with the intention of making you Queen if you have no desire to."
"Then why all this?"
"Because, Eloise, I want to make you powerful so that no one will ever think twice about stepping on you again."
My heart skipped a beat at his words, and suddenly his actions today have a whole lot different meaning.
"I can protect you, but I want you to have allies who are loyal to you without question, no matter what."
"Drevon," Ravyn said. "Let’s talk alone."
