Chapter 403: The Three Major Clans! (GT bonus chap)

Chapter 403

A week had passed since the peace the Cromwells had enjoyed was shattered by an attack from the Midnight Sun Clan. During this week-long break, everybody helped in rebuilding the destroyed areas affected during the battle.

The house, the garden, and so many other places were being reconstructed. During this same week, Duke had delivered the artifact, which was tested, and to everyone’s amazement, Grey’s hair truly changed to a color of his choice—brown.

He was asked why he chose brown, but he simply said he felt it was a beautiful color, and so he picked it.

Although he could finally disguise his hair color, the artifact came with a risk and a downside. Grey’s hair would revert back to its natural color whenever he ran out of Ki.

It turned out the device—which was a small ring placed on his finger—was powered by Ki. So, whenever his Ki was completely depleted, the artifact would shut down, and his hair would return to its original crimson tone.

Throughout the week of rebuilding, Grey didn’t train. Instead, he helped out wherever he could while still wearing the weighted gear that kept increasing in mass each day.

After a few days, the house looked as good as new. Currently, everyone could be seen sitting around the newly crafted dining table, enjoying a peaceful dinner together.

For the first time in ages, Yami was seated with the family from the start, rather than coming in late from the bathroom like he always did.

"Ahh! After a few hours of intense work, dinner sure hits differently," Yami commented as he hungrily devoured his food.

"Careful devouring that food, you might choke," Clarice cautioned as she watched Yami eat like a wild beast.

"Oh!" Yami muttered, raising an eyebrow while forcefully pushing the food down with a big gulp of water. "So you suddenly care about me? Thought you all didn’t."

"Will you stop holding grudges like a child?" Grey said, glaring at Yami.

"How dare you call me a child, you kid." Yami pointed at Grey in an exaggerated fashion. "Just know, I’m never forgetting the fact you called me a kid."

"Tsk." Grey scoffed and continued eating his food calmly, not bothering to argue.

"Dad," Millie called out as she swung her feet underneath the table while casually eating her meal. "What are we going to do about this new trouble?"

Yami sighed, dropped his spoon, and took a long chug of water before glancing back at Millie.

"I really don’t know," Yami replied as he shook his head slowly.

"You know," Finral said as he glared at Yami and then Grey. "We were all living peacefully here. No trouble. No one knew where we were until you brought him here."

"Finral! Be nice," Clarice snapped as she glared at her son.

"Aren’t I speaking the truth? For as long as I can remember, we were hiding out here and no one ever found us. Our dojo was our source of income. Youngsters fascinated with Ki and martial arts would come here to learn.

We didn’t look for trouble, and no one brought trouble to us. But ever since he came here, we’ve been encountering one problem after another," Finral growled, his tone sharp with frustration.

Grey didn’t reply. Instead, he calmly chewed on his food, completely unbothered.

"Mind answering one question of mine?" Grey asked as he finally looked up and glanced at Yami. "Why was that Captain scared of you? What’s with your family hiding out in the mountain?"

"I don’t think there’s a need for you to know, right?" Finral glared at Grey in anger. "The day you regain your memories and we figure out who the hell you are, then you’ll be eligible to know who we are."

"Finral," Yami called out quite calmly, though his voice carried a clear sense of authority and frustration. "Grey, it’s not like I don’t want to tell you what’s going on, but I can’t. Just as Finral said, although I consider you a second son, we still don’t know who you really are.

Heck, you don’t even know who you really are. So until we can figure that out, I can’t tell you anything. All I can say is that if we’re discovered, some really dangerous people would come down here. People with the strength to wipe out clans."

’Strength to wipe out clans?’ Grey thought in worry as he stared at Yami a little longer. ’What is going on in this family?’

"Fine," Grey sighed, having finished his meal. He pushed his plates aside and glanced up at Yami. "Since you can’t answer that, here’s a simpler question. Who are the controllers of the Aetherian faction?"

"That is actually easy to answer." Yami yawned slightly as he also pushed aside his plates. He leaned forward a bit, locking eyes with Grey. "See, the Aetherian faction, just like the other two, has three major clans controlling it.

Now, these three major clans also have several minor clans within their territories."

"I don’t understand," Grey said with a raised, confused eyebrow, causing Yami to sigh.

"Listen here. Imagine this: you grow older, get married, and have kids. Then your kids also give birth to their own kids. You’re the elder among these generations, right?" Yami asked.

"Yes," Grey nodded, following along.

"Good. Now, consider yourself as the creator of the Aetherian faction along with your wife. Your kids are the three major clans. Then your kids give birth to their own children, who in this case are the minor clans that originated from them." Yami tried his best to simplify it, and Grey, now understanding the concept, nodded again.

"Now, the three major clans in the Aetherian faction are the Dusksoul Clan, the Aetherborn Clan, and the Ironfur Clan. Each of these clans has three minor clans under them, and each of those minor clans has their own rulers too.

I’m really tired right now, so I can’t list all the minor clans, but you’ll be taught all of this when you get to the academy. Just know that the owner of the Aetherian Academy—and also its current principal—is the leader of the Aetherborn Clan.

Also, the leader of the Aetherborn is easily the strongest of the three. But he’s quite easygoing and doesn’t like to flex his power. Just be careful not to step on his tail when you get to the academy," Yami warned, furrowing his brow.

"Wait. You keep talking about me going to the academy. I haven’t even decided yet," Grey facepalmed himself.

"If you haven’t, you wouldn’t have accepted that disguise ring," Yami said as he stood up from his chair and turned away.

"For real? Don’t I get much of a say in this? A recast or a revote?" Grey asked as Yami calmly walked away.

"Nope," Yami replied without looking back.

"Oh, come on!" Grey shouted as he softly slammed his head on the table, causing everybody to chuckle—everybody except Finral, who angrily stood up from the table and stormed off to his room.
