Chapter 682: Chapter 538: Coveting_3

"If Sonia is still a Two-winged Mage, even though nobles under Dazzling Star must abide by the law, there’s still a way to get a handle on a Two-winged Mage within the rules. Not to mention, Adelle’s parents are Two-winged Mages, yet they are still civil officials subjected to irresistible pressure."

"But the problem is, Sonia has already become a Holy Sanctuary Mage."

"Even though she hasn’t constructed her Holy Domain yet, that’s just a matter of time."

"A Holy Sanctuary Mage themselves are equivalent to nobility, a rank sufficient to invalidate most tactics. Unless the Empress herself coerces her, not even the five Dukes can make Sonia bow her head."

"Yes," Lois said softly as she lowered her head, "she’s different from us now."

"Hey hey, aren’t you here to help me? Hurry, hurry, think of something else I can write about for my assignment!" Adelle urged while biting her pen.

"Adelle, why do you seem not to care?"

"What do you mean I don’t care? If I didn’t care, I’d already be lying on my bed watching Dedarose’s new drama."

"I mean, you seem not to care about being caught between your family and Sonia," Lois said. "On one hand, you don’t plan to hide Sonia’s information, yet on the other hand, you just want to appease your family... I thought you would either secretly collect Sonia’s private information or feel aggrieved about being coerced by your family."

"Because caring doesn’t help, it will only keep me from enjoying the drama," Adelle said. "I can’t do things like collect private information. I’m so bad at tailing; Sonia would spot me in a second."

"As for being coerced by family... well, it is a bit upsetting; I hardly ever come home, and my parents and Frey actually want me to betray a friend. But Sonia is my friend, not theirs, so it’s logical for them to act this way. Besides, they are still my loving mother and father, and the fiancé I grew up with. I got over it after sulking a bit."

"Moreover, they know what kind of person I am, they wouldn’t ask me if there were another way. They must be facing pressures I’m unaware of to involve their most beloved daughter and fiancée; how can I blame them?"

"So I have to write diligently; that way I can submit my assignment, and they can submit theirs."

Lois couldn’t help but look at Ingrid, who shrugged and continued to help Adelle with her homework.

No wonder the pretentiously aloof Ingrid was helping...

"But this really is too much, if Sonia finds out, who knows how she will get back at you. Last time you took her wooden sword to hack around, you were yelling so loud the next building could hear."

Adelle pressed her hands together in a pleading gesture, "Lois, don’t tell! Ingrid already promised she wouldn’t spill!"

Lois did not interrupt them and went back to organize her station. She hadn’t been back for many days, and dust had settled on her desk.

After the college league ended, Sword Flower University had five days off, followed by a two-month ’Mage Self-Training Period,’ also known as summer vacation. Students could train at home or return to school — any student with aspirations would choose the school since its training facilities were incomparable to those at home.

So Adelle was definitely half escaping and half forced to be back, since she’d watch dramas anywhere, and the bed at home was definitely more comfortable than the one in the dorm.

Lois was supposed to stay home; she had prepared many activities for her summer. But inspired by Sonia and Ingrid, she wanted to chase her dream of becoming a Water Mage.

Moreover, she had reasons she had to come back.

As the dazzling stars sank to the west, Adelle put down her pen and stretched, "I’m so tired!"

Ingrid responded, "It’s always me talking, what are you tired for?"

"Writing is tiring!" Adelle stood up and said, "Let’s go eat! Lois, are we going to the cafeteria tonight or eating out?"

"You guys go ahead." Lois looked down at her book, "I overate at home, need to watch my weight a bit, I’ll just have some fruit tonight."

"I think you should eat more, otherwise, you won’t catch up to Sonia—I mean in stature—hey, no hitting, Ingrid, let’s go!"

Ingrid glanced at Lois and left with Adelle.
