Chapter 376: Travel and Travel Beyond Chapter Four: Damnation?_2

A knight and a dwarf ran up, and they saw Little Finger Felps. The dwarf lifted the halfling up effortlessly, cheering with joy. It seemed these two were friends rather than standing against Lynch. Everyone put away their weapons, and Zilvra asked, "Men, where has Mage Lynch gone? Hurry and follow!"

Wislin gave her a strange look; that awkward Common Language was indeed peculiar. Nevertheless, he pointed in a direction, "If I’m not mistaken, Lynch should have gone back to his home."

In that old inn, the mage gently laid his mother on the bed and tucked her in. A wooden chair floated to his back automatically, allowing the mage to sit on it.

This was a small room facing south, the place where Lynch spent his childhood. In a corner of the room, clothes he wore as a child hung neatly and spotlessly on the wall; the two large beds were patched all over and creaked at the slightest touch; three chairs surrounded a wooden table, with a block of wood propping up one of its legs as usual—otherwise, not even a bowl of soup could be stable on it. The only lively spot in the room was a few potted flowers on the windowsill, unchanged in position and species from Lynch’s memory.

Here, through the passage of years, little had changed, keeping all the furnishings in their original state. Lynch caressed the wooden bed frame by his mother’s side, its surface worn smooth, now tinged with blackness and decay in the passing of time. The mage looked at his mother, at the wrinkles on her face and the silver strands by her temples, speechless.

The decorations remained the same, but the people had long since changed.

Footsteps sounded downstairs, like metal striking the wooden floor. Lynch picked up his magic wand, gently pushed open the door, and flew down the stairs. At that moment, Wislin arrived with his entourage, meeting Lynch, whose face was full of murderous intent.

"Lynch, how is Auntie?" Wislin hurriedly asked.

Only then did the mage put away his magic wand, stopping everyone from going upstairs, "My mother is resting up there, so don’t go up. Let’s talk here." He waved his hand, and the chairs in the inn’s hall flew over, stopping right in front of everyone.

Since they were indoors, Lynch didn’t cover Zilvra’s eyes again. The drow woman swiftly moved to the mage’s side, pulling up a chair to sit with him.

"What’s really going on here?" Lynch asked, "How did you know I live here? And why did you come here specifically to hold a funeral?"

Wislin and Morgan exchanged glances before the knight explained everything here, "After Moon Harbor City fell, we lost contact with you. According to Great Knight Macken, you engaged in a battle with the Great Mage at the Lord Mansion and were then buried in an explosion. We secretly entered there but couldn’t find your body."

Morgan complained, "Then those priests who babble on about ’the long sun’ and ’the short sun’ assumed you were dead. What a bunch of fools."

Wislin gently tugged Morgan’s big beard, "Didn’t I tell you we need to unite now, to put aside those prejudices? Why do you still not watch your words?"

Morgan shook his head, his beard swaying with it, "I was only speaking the truth... forget it, I didn’t say anything, it’s such a hassle!"

Wislin knew that Morgan’s temperament was unlikely to change anytime soon. He continued, "The high priests of Holy Pate believed it necessary to find your whereabouts. We went to the Mage Association and only then learned about your family situation. When we reclaimed Moon Harbor City, we still had no word from you. So, my superiors decided to hold this funeral in your hometown."

Wislin chuckled bitterly, "I told them many times, saying that Lynch, you wouldn’t die so easily. But they didn’t quite believe it. It seems this has caused your mother a lot of trouble, and I apologize for that."

"No need for that." Lynch waved his hand, "This matter has nothing to do with you." The mage thought for a moment, then suddenly asked, "Is the war in Holy Pate quite tense? You’re not as glamorous as you claim to be, right?"

"How do you know!" Wislin realized his voice was a bit loud, quickly lowering his tone, "How do you know? Have you been within Pate’s borders all along?"
