Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 265
Chapter 265: Chapter 265
While Cedar and Nibbles cultivate and stabilize their changes, I join Dave at the training grounds, where the vast majority of the pack is waiting for us.
"Welcome everyone. Today I will start teaching you the physical side of your new cultivation style. Being werewolves, you might think that martial arts are useless to you, but in fact, it’s the exact opposite. You’ve got a physical advantage over human cultivators to start with, you’re faster and stronger. That gets compounded every advancement even when you’re a mystic type cultivator.
And yes, this is a mystic type cultivation style. You’ll learn a variety of Lightning attacks, energy barriers and associated control techniques. Physical cultivation styles do struggle until the later levels, even through Core Formation they struggle to match the energy control of Mystic Cultivators, which leaves them disadvantaged in group combat, where individual physical strength is less vital. Which is why we’re focusing on improving the Mystic side, while your wolf nature helps boost your physical capabilities."
The werewolves are watching with rapt attention, this being entirely new information to them. Unlike most packs, I can see that Alpha Conway teaches his werewolves a variety of weapons, there are swords, spears, bows and throwing axes visible around the training grounds, as well as a variety of targets.
That’s perfect for the Divine Lightning technique. They have a great number of sword and bow techniques. Keeping that in mind, I’ll start them all at different stations, each learning a small amount every day and then repeating the new techniques over and over until they’ve got it all down.
"I see you’ve prepared weapon stations, so everyone go to their favorite style. I will even out the numbers if necessary." I instruct and they start moving to their favorite training methods.
Of course the unarmed group is the majority of the Wolves, but it also takes the most practice and was given the most space. I’m not great with the Divine Lightning Archery style, but I understand the fundamentals, so I’ll start there.
"Archers pay attention. I’m going to channel energy outside my body in the pattern you need to copy to achieve the most basic Lightning arrow attack of the style. No actual arrow is needed, but you do need a bow." I pick up one of the hand carved wooden longbows and draw it back. I take my time circulating the energy through my body and down my arms to form the arrow before releasing it into a nearby target.
I put very little into it, so the target is barely scorched, and the werewolves look like I’ve insulted them.
"Is that all it can do? That wouldn’t even take down a regular deer." One of the hunters laughs.
"Oh no, that’s the bare minimum to demonstrate. Here, watch again." I use the technique again, with the full strength of my cultivation, but aiming straight up into the sky. A Lightning bolt streaks into the air, thicker than a human torso, and leaving ionized atmosphere in its wake, the tingling, leftover electricity feeling of a nearby Lightning strike.
"Okay, point taken. That should take down almost anything short of a Dragon." He laughs while the others stare in awe.
"Yours won’t be that strong for a while, but if you get it right, even a Fortification Realm cultivator can make them as strong as a rifle shot without issue."
Once they’re started, I do the same for the throwing axes station before moving on to the swordsmen.
"The sword and martial arts techniques are intertwined in this style, so at the start, you’ll be with the unarmed fighters learning the basics. Once we get to the point that basic sword techniques start getting added in, I’ll split you off again. I see most of you aren’t pack warriors, so that will work out well, keeping the warriors together to build cooperation."
This is no short training session, there’s too much to the basics for that, instead we end up training until dark, stopping in the early afternoon for lunch.
"Good work everyone. Dinner should be ready soon, go get washed and changed. I’ll go see how my friends and the puppies are doing. I think I left a pair cultivating on the couch too." A few of warriors chuckle at that, having watched from the door, waiting for me to be ready.
Cedar and Nibbles have moved to their rooms, the cleaning Omegas working nearby interrupted their attempts to cultivate.
One of those cleaners comes over to my room while I’m in the shower, a quick affair as the house is well beyond out of hot water with everyone cleaning up at the same time and I’m not going to call Hui’Jin up to use fire magic to heat me a bath.
Come to think of it, I know some flame style fighting techniques. If I coat my fist in fire and put it in the bath, I should be able to heat the water.
Next time for sure.
"Hello, Alpha Katrina. I’m Suzanne, Nicole’s mother." The cleaner in my room greets me when I leave the bathroom. Nicole, Nicole, oh Nibbles.
"It’s a pleasure to meet you. Your daughter expressed an interest in special training to catch up to the rest of the Pack Cultivators, so I’ll be beginning additional classes with them tomorrow, if that’s fine with you?"
"I don’t see a problem with it, as long as she doesn’t forget her place. I’m just worried that being with you and the Alpha’s daughter will give her big ideas about things and she’ll wind up getting hurt when she finally realizes she can’t do them." Suzanne explains.
Suzanne is one of the few on the pack with absolutely zero talent for cultivation. I could open Meridians for her but with absolutely nothing to start with I’m not sure if even that would be enough for her body to adapt to cultivation energy and allow her to start the foundation process. I might have to try that later though. Karl and Elder Song would surely be intrigued.
"No worries Miss Suzanne, she’s got a good aptitude for cultivation. With it, she’ll be more than capable of everything I’m going to teach her. In fact, she might even become Cedar’s bodyguard. The two seem very close."
"If you say so. I just wanted to look out for my little girl." Suzanne nods politely before backing out the door. She’s clearly still not anywhere near convinced, and will likely try to talk Nibbles out of the special training, but that too is a test of character.
