Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 237
Chapter 237: Chapter 237
It looks like the Demons have gone all out to impress the delegation, even bringing in a mystic chef to cook lunch. The recipes are simple, nothing I myself couldn’t make, but I’ve gotten incredibly spoiled by my time in the higher Planes where such things are commonplace. When I left last time, Arcana was the only city in the continent that had any mystic Chefs at all, and their training program for new ones has just barely begun.
The demons have their reasons though, they’re looking for their own addition to the agreement. Portals to the other Dragon God controlled and aligned cities. And there are more than expected. There is a newly pacified one in Oklahoma territory, one in Oregon and one in Southern California, plus Missoula Montana has aligned itself with the Dragonkin, largely thanks to the trade caravans that have been arriving regularly and the outpost system that feeds them.
With such a wide network of cities covering most of the western side of the continent, they could be a true entertainment hub, with an easy way to get around and some of the grandest facilities on the planet.
I really don’t see a good reason why not. There have been no reports of agreement breaches, and the city is relatively low crime thanks to the large numbers of enforcers and abundant distractions present. They also offer no credit, so nobody is gambling themselves into debt. With that in mind, the agreement is amended again and we check it against the document we brought with us in case of sneaky attempts to remove or edit clauses.
Everything checks out and both parties sign with relief. I’m glad this is over, the demons are glad we didn’t hold out to drive a harder deal, since the Dragon and Demon kingdoms don’t always get along. But Earth is a mess anyhow with the Beasts and Titans bringing their war to us and all the havoc brought by the portals. A Party City run by actual demons actually doesn’t seem that out of place.
"You know, I actually modeled this hotel based on your ideas." The Demon Queen informs me with a smile, how that were done talking business.
"Really? How so?"
"I went to visit Arcana for inspiration and stayed a while at the resort in the underground base. It’s private, luxurious, full of amenities that cater to anyone and exclusive, but through limited space not snobbery. It appealed to me, so we integrated many of the elements into the hotel, we even brought in a mystic chef. Business has been incredible, even with a quarter of the rooms of the other hotels we’re pulling in all the richest and highest level cultivators."
"The VIP experience is important. It’s a shame you weren’t in Arcana when we returned, a Nephilim King from the Divine Planes came to visit Arcana with us, I’m sure you would have gotten along with him very well, he also had an eye for the luxuries that unique Earth technology can bring." Karl smiles at the Succubus.
"Plus, Steve almost wore out the entire Sect." He adds under his breath.
The queen and her advisors have a load of work to do now, making arrangements for all the new portals, the modified gambling chips and the actual running of the city, so the three of us decided to take a tour of the city before heading home. We’re taking the Toyota for ease of travel, flying through the city would just be extra effort, and we’re not in any sort of hurry.
Mostly it’s a load of hotels and casinos with a few amusement parks Karl doesn’t want to visit right now, but right in the middle of the city is the old outpost buildings, set into what’s now a city park. A heritage memorial of sorts, commemorating the very beginnings of the two world’s cooperation. This we will stop to explore and see how the demons portrayed the events that led to the founding of the city.
There are a line of plaques near the entrance lining the sides of a walking path, so we park, getting out before Karl pulls the Toyota into a pocket dimension, a trick I’ve also seen Elder Song use to store large objects. Being a mage must be nice, I can manipulate energy well now, and activate all sorts of devices, but complex spells are way beyond my abilities as a Physical Type Cultivator. Even the nuclear bomb spell is just advanced energy manipulation with a side of physics knowledge. It’s sure is flashy though.
There’s a large stone commemorating the one Karl used east of the old city, calling it a genius negotiating tactic that showed a level of force worth respecting. I thought there would be a few underhanded jabs at the Dragon Gods given the history between the factions, but this whole park seems to be full of positive portrayals of cooperation.
Large trees share the area, definitely grown with magic, no such stands of huge trees existed in South Dakota the last time I checked, even the mighty redwoods or ancient cedars of the west coast would be hard pressed to beat the ones in this park.
There’s a Dragonkin selling hotdogs from a cart in the park, so we decide to say hello and grab another snack, the true joy of visiting new places. Karl might need to watch his figure, but me and Lelou are great at burning off excess calories.
"3 of your special smokies with everything." I order for the group, while the Dragonkin stares at us incredulously.
"Maybe we should have changed from our formal Robes before going sightseeing?" Lelou laughs at the vendor’s reaction.
"Sorry High Priestess. I heard there were High Priests on this world, but I only arrived a month ago through a portal with my cart and started working on the park. The hotdogs of this world are a delicacy, though they contain no actual dog." The man gushes, awestruck at seeing people of our rank at his cart.
"So tell me, how are you enjoying life in this city? Anything we should know about, or might want to visit while we’re here? Both good and bad are important to know, since we’re here to visit the Demon Queen."
