Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 227
Chapter 227: Chapter 227
The solo kill and the double capture are the talk of the camp that night. In all, nearly a thousand Divine Realm Cultivators came here to wipe out the residents of this world, and about half are staying in this one camp while the others are stationed all over the planet, checking for signs of intrusion. The last thing they want is someone coming here and taking the place as a blank slate to continue the work of the Cult.
The Royal Pack has a suggestion for that though. The planet has a lot of wildlife, much of which is evolving to become Category 5 and 6 magical creatures. Not growing in size, but in energy density and power. With careful nurture, this planet would make a most excellent hunting preserve for the youngsters still in the Immortal Realm. So they propose to take over this place, and watch for intruders as they maintain the wildlife.
I made them promise to let me visit with any acolytes I might need to train, which isn’t an issue to them, and Merle asks the same. Pure blooded Seraphim are extremely powerful at any level of cultivation, but they do have half Seraphim among them, as well as younger children who would benefit from the skills training of learning to hunt.
All we need now is a collection of Transfer Tokens to easily get back without getting lost. Which has led to me giving Elder Song my very best puppy eyes, pleading for him to do the work. We could just call a Royal Inscriptionist over and get the job done, but he’s right here, and fully capable. Just not entirely willing.
It’s the promise from Beta John to find him a great subject for his attempts to replicate the Fusion that Karl had undergone with the Arcane Elemental that tips the scales in our favor. The pack knows where a large number of Elemental Shards are, similar to how Karl’s Elemental started out. They also have no qualms about donating a Mortal Realm Human to the cause, and the ’volunteer’ would likely be happy for the opportunity.
This in turn has led us to another argument. The decision on where such an experiment should take place. At the Shadowed Blade, so Elder Song has his library handy, at the Royal Pack so the materials are close at hand, or back in Arcana, to replicate the setting of the initial advancement most closely, even though our world has undergone a great number of changes.
The final decision is that we will all head back to Arcana to conduct the experiment there. I suspect John has someone who annoys him in mind for the experiment and fully intends to leave them behind afterwards. It would be almost impossible for them to return to the pack without assistance, entry into any of the Divine Realms is heavily restricted by their residents.
We are going to leave in the morning, assuming Lelou can escape her ardent admirer, and that nobody is too hungover to move. That shouldn’t be a problem for me and Karl. After the final decision is made, we make our most polite goodbyes and slink away to retire for the evening.
Before we go, Beta John grants me the reward for today’s kill, a tradition for Lycans who complete their first successful hunt. A small wooden hunters cabin, a much less extravagant version of the one Beta John himself carries around. It even comes on a nice braided leather necklace and looks like a wolf shaped pendant when not in use.
We find a nice secluded spot near some trees and set up the new cabin for the first time. It’s rustic, thick log walls, wooden shake roof, and from the outside looks to be about 3 meters by 5 meters. Inside is a fair bit bigger, having a firm leather couch and two comfy recliners in a fur rug carpeted sitting area with a fireplace, a kitchen in the back right with an inscription powered cast iron stove, like a cultivator’s version of the wood stoves of Earth’s 19th and early 20th century. There’s a dining room table with 4 chairs by the stove and two bedrooms in the back left, both small but comfortable with good mattresses and thick blankets plus fur rugs on the floor. Wood and fur, with stone accents is definitely the theme here.
As far as rewards go, this is incredibly impressive.
Before I’ve even fully taken in the interior of the Hunters Cabin, which has the crest of the Royal Pack on the wall above the fireplace mantle and outside above the door, Karl has pulled the thick curtains closed and cast a soundproofing spell to supplement the one already enchanted into the cabin.
It’s a good idea too, as our evening activities get rather loud. I’m certain our neighbors understand about Mates separated from each other for extended times, but I’d rather not have them all hear us christen every surface in this cabin.
We’ve still not slept when morning comes, and I’m setting the table and chairs back upright so we can have breakfast when there is a knock at the door. Karl and I both quickly wear our clergy Robes, and Karl puts the couch and living room rug back in their proper places before answering the door.
"I was sent to tell you that the group plans to leave in half an hour. And that there is an enchantment to deodorize and clean the cabin, just place your hand on the wall inside the little closet between the bedroom doors." Steve greets us with a smile.
"Now, enjoy your breakfast and I’ll see you soon."
We make breakfast a quick meal, and share a shower in the bathroom between the bedrooms before getting properly dressed and going to meet the others.
It looks like John and Steve, plus Lelou, The Nephilim King, Princess Amanda, Elder Song and two random humans wearing dresses with the Royal Pack emblem on them will all be going to Arcana.
"They both have very good potential to be Mages. I think the experiment should be viable with these two volunteers." Karl nods at Elder Song and Beta John, wrapping me in a hug from behind.
"Now, let’s go home."
