Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 119
Chapter 119: Chapter 119
I shouldn’t have worried. Everything is laid out precisely on the coffee table, two alarms are set, clothes are picked and a schedule for the week is printed.
Looking over the schedule, it’s pretty simple, she’ll be going to the grade school closest to the underground entrance, Lala will be walking her to class and Lelou will be picking her up, as their schedules work out that way. Each class time is noted with a space to write homework assignments.
There is study time scheduled daily, and even free hours to spend relaxing or with friends. It’s a very professional schedule, I wonder who made it?
"Everything prepared Hui’Jin? I ask, in case there’s something else.
"Just whatever you assign me, I’ve got an hour a day in the schedule Lady Lelou made for acolytes duties."
"Well, for tomorrow I don’t have much. So if you can spend the hour working on your spell craft, that would be perfect. You’re a Junior Priestess now, your clergy training is done, but a wide variety of Knowledge and skills are important to your future."
"I understand. I will work on my Arcane magic skills, as they’re the most versatile" Hui’Jin says after thinking of what she wants to learn first.
"Most importantly, what do you want to do after you turn 14? Then you’ll be old enough to go out into the world alone. You’ve finished your apprenticeship as an acolyte already, so what’s next is up to you, take time to think about it."
We both pass our evening meditating, getting ourselves ready for the challenges tomorrow is sure to bring. Very different challenges, I hope she will make friends at school.
I am roused from my meditation by the activating bunny Golems. One is coming back from the dining hall with food, another is moving from the bedroom to bathroom with Hui’Jin.
I quickly shower and get dressed, loving how this new tunic top, baby blue silk and lace with short, lace bell sleeves looks with my favorite leather pants. I don’t even remember buying this, but I’m glad I did.
Shopping with Lelou might be exhausting, but I look amazing. I leave my hair loose to dry, not expecting a fight today, and head to the bathroom to see if Hui’Jin is almost done her morning routine.
I find her at the sink, half dressed and half asleep. One golem is putting her into her school uniform, the other is brushing her teeth.
Dressed and ready, they escort her to breakfast, finally fully awake after half a cup of juice.
"Too excited to sleep?" I ask, trying to hide my laughter.
"A little bit. But I’m awake now, a bit of meditation while I brushed my teeth helped."
"It’s good you’ve set a schedule, now finish your food and pack your bag, Lala should be here in a few minutes and we’ll walk you to school."
Lala is precise with her schedule, entering from her room on schedule to the second. In her pinstriped skirt suit she looks every bit the professional clerk. Anyone would be proud to have someone that professional in their team, she’s come a long way from everything looking like cosplay when she wore it.
"Good morning everyone!" she greets the day, grabbing a muffin and juice.
"I am so looking forward to this, your school is right next to the University Offices, so it’s just a short hop across the walkway to my job after I drop you off."
It’s not a long walk in total. The school is only 3 stores and a small park away from the elevator, we will be there in about 3 minutes. But it’s good to know Lala will be taking care of her every morning.
Once we’ve all eaten we make our way to the elevator, Karl and Lelou meeting us halfway to get pictures of Hui’Jin in her school uniform, wings proudly spread behind her.
I should have done that. I’ll get a copy later.
The headmaster of the grade school meets us at the door, fawning like a groupie. He’s a junior Priest of the Blue, a Dragonkin in his late middle ages with weak cultivation, must not have much dragon bloodline, the stronger the Dragon blood the faster they cultivate even without active effort.
He assures us she is in good hands, the Council left instructions she was to be placed in the advanced class grooming future leaders. I don’t yet know what that means for her future, but it seems they expect big things.
"I was in that class too, back when I was a little dragon" Lelou smiles at the memory. "I made Junior Priestess by graduation and spent my apprenticeship training to take over as manager of an orphanage."
Manager at 16? They really do expect big things.
"The Black Avatar was one of my classmates by the way. He was a combat medic before he was promoted to High Priest and joined the council as an advisor."
Wow, the things you learn by knowing the right people.
Once she’s safely in her classroom, and we’ve all said hello to the awestruck classmates, we escort Lala to work and head to Karl’s office to discuss our own future tasks.
Plenty of teams are already in the Fallen City Zone as they’re calling it. Mostly in two base camps, hunting the category 1 beasts on the outskirts to keep them from spreading. The recommendation from the Guild Hall brought a few teams who are looking for the category 2 areas, but category 3 monsters are tough for most cultivators born on this world.
A number of strong enough cultivators have arrived, but mostly this week after the restrictions started lifting on power, and they’re still getting adjusted to their new homes, not in a rush to work out of town.
"I’m thinking we should go personally. Having it known that two High Priests of the Death God are in the area will draw a number of powerful cultivators looking for excitement." Karl suggests.
"So, announce we will be there and hope people show up? Maybe we could sweeten the pot a bit. I have a vast collection of cultivation pills with me, we could offer good things as a reward for top team of the day in each zone, or maybe for those who are about to break through while fighting there."
"I’ve also got a bunch of low grade cultivation materials to add to the creation spell. Fill out its Knowledge."
"We can have that done while we work. Put one of each in a bag and I’ll have an Earth mage come sort it out" Well that was easy.
"How about we go up to the northwest section and ask what they want, and what the stores sell the most of? The whole area is full of high level cultivators, we should get some good input."
The answers are varied, but all boil down to one thing, guaranteed cultivation materials will guarantee they take the mission. The great question is how to go about it. Daily rewards from a Guild Mission? Cultivation rewards as a bounty?
Both options appeal to a fair number of the more powerful cultivators in the city.
"How about a bounty price? Offer the pills for sale, at the price of proof of kills. Ten monsters of a rank to a pill, while supplies last."
"That’s a great idea. Money can’t usually buy rank 3 pills, they’re traded for treasures and favors. This mission could be considered a favor." I reply, thinking of what I should offer for sale.
Qi Gathering and Clear Mind Pills were commonly mentioned, regeneration pills are always in demand. I’ve got thousands of each in rank 1 through 3. But a little added motivation might get this problem solved more easily.
Down at the Adventurer’s Guild Hall we spend a bit catching up with Jake and Mary, before I post the announcement.
Ten proof of kill to a Qi Gathering, Clear Mind or Regeneration pill of equal rank. Five hundred to get one requested pill a rank higher, if materials are available.
Getting an alchemist to make rare pills is hard, so someone who wants something obscure, or a rank 4 pill might take the bait.
The mission starts tomorrow, as we will be headed out tonight.
