Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 112
Chapter 112: Chapter 112
"What have you done? What is all this?" The Guild Master shouts at us, on sight of our little convoy of carnage.
"I may have gone a touch overboard. Sorry Guild Master." I console him. He can’t yell at me much, I outrank him. But everyone else is in hiding.
"The bags in the pickup box are all proof of kills. There’s some more in the trailer. We stored our stones already, so don’t worry about that, we won’t need to exchange them." I explain
"The bus and the rest of the trailer are full of anything that looked good. Precious metals, magical objects we couldn’t identify, more enchanted weapons than we knew what to do with."
Many of which are way too large for human use, but enchanted steel is still valuable. The giants daggers make lovely great swords though. I kept one for days like this when I need more reach than my saber can give.
Every storage device I have is packed full and we are all carrying a large camping pack. Plus there’s a loaded steamer trunk each in the room just to hold the essentials. It’s time to upgrade.
"Can we offer something other than coin for this?" The Guild master asks hopefully. "I don’t think we have enough coinage"
"Even if you gave it all to me in coin I have nowhere left to put it." I reply honestly "Let me talk to the others, I think a trade for storage devices might be desired"
He waves me away to finish trying to value this mess and I gather everyone from both groups back up.
"As you might have guessed, we’re not going to be able to get cash for all of this. But, the Guild Master can trade us for valuables or spatial storage devices, like the ring on my finger."
After a thought everyone nods.
"The ones we have are becoming woefully inadequate." Kel’Mira says.
"The one from my Sect holds 1 cubic meter" the leader of the other team says. "That won’t even hold all my stones anymore, and you can’t have those out in the open"
"I’ll have him get 20 of the best storage devices he can and give us the rest in coins and stones then? Evenly split between the teams?"
"Deal"
The best devices he can get hold 50 meters cubed and are beyond expensive. But with all the enchanted crafting materials we brought back, it’s still less than two thirds of the total trade in value of our loot. Plus there’s still the matter of the bounties to be settled.
This works out well for everyone. That storage should be enough for most people’s lifetime, and we’ll have plenty of cash and anything else we choose to buy left over.
I choose to get a second matching storage device, piercing styles again, to swap out my old ones. The crafter includes it free of charge, due to my status and the value of this bulk purchase. The old ones can go in storage for now, I’ve got enough exotic piercings thanks.
The Guild Master individually delivers the storage devices requested, hidden in boxes from the creator so nobody knows exactly what form you’ve chosen.
I keep my storage rings on my fingers though. They’re tiny and cheap, but conspicuous and I store some low level essentials in them, enough to throw off anyone trying to rob me. Better safe than sorry.
I’ve barely gotten everything put away to wait on the coins and choice of valuables when the breakthrough that seemed so imminent during the battle becomes unavoidable.
Holding them back seems to make them easier, many of the Adventurer’s Guild members complain of problems getting pills and tonics to make theirs go smoothly, trying to advance as fast as possible.
I call Hui’Jin over, knowing there will be a massive amount of excess energy and it might push her through another level.
She sits on my knee, wrapping one wing around me as the breakthrough starts. It’s another strong one, energy is overflowing and I push it towards the little Dragonewt. I can feel her power base growing and she mentioned something about her Spirit Ocean becoming an actual Ocean.
As my breakthrough peaks I take the Core Forming and Soul Forging Pills to push it along. The faster I can safely get to the peak of this world’s power structure the better.
Hui’Jin isn’t going to make a breakthrough at this rate, so I hand her another pair of pills, feeling a bit guilty about rising her development so much instead of letting her be a kid. It’s normal where she comes from, and power is partially equivalent to status even here, but still, she’s missing out. Once school starts in Arcana I should get her enrolled.
She advances to the fourth rank of Fortification as I settle into the Third rank of Condensation, both of our cultivation bases feel stable, and the immense amount of Death Energy from so many rank 3 monster kills has greatly expanded both our Spirit Oceans.
"Focus on stretching and strengthening your mana veins next. It says in the cultivation book that’s the most important thing for a Mage at your level" I tell her, showing her the new, more effective technique for Death Priestesses at Fortification Realm.
I too have started on a new technique, which seems to be refining my body into something akin to a living metal. It’s still warm and supple, but nearly indestructible, and the force I can exert is twice what it was before the advancement.
At this rate, 50 percent of what I could do at Condensation 1 for every rank up, I’ll be a force of nature by the time I get through the 15 levels of Condensation and reach Core Formation.
Lelou was right, the strength advantage of a Lycan who physical cultivates gets compounded at every rank into something humans could never compare to in that Realm.
Some time later the Guild Master arrives at our groups room with a wheelbarrow full of bags and two assistants carrying chests.
"Here are the items you requested, and the remainder in coins." He states, bowing and leaving the items on the floor.
Kel’Mira got a beautiful necklace that enchants her healing to also have a lingering regenerative effect on the recipient. It’s an Immortal Realm treasure and cost her all but a few gold coins of her reward.
Vinnie and Paul both got new bows, plus lightning talismans to enhance their Sect’s special abilities, but kept a good chunk of coinage.
Hui’Jin also found a use for most of her coinage, getting a beautiful black staff with a burning crystal at the top. Also an Immortal Realm Treasure, it is said to triple a mages fire damage.
I went in a different direction. I got a Travel Talisman. Much like the travel gates, it can bring me and anything I am holding to marked locations for Travel. So the gates, and up to 5 other spots that I mark with the Talisman.
It was somewhat cheaper, being a popular item with the higher clergy, but they really didn’t have anything else that interested me. Which leaves me with half a wheelbarrow of coins.
"I feel like I should be the Dragon here, hoarding a mountain of gold and silver" I joke and Hui’Jin laughs.
"You know, some actually do that?"
We decide that discretion is the better part of Valor today and head out into the city to get Good meal instead of doing anything productive. Even in my fancy cultivators dress many of the local Dragon Kin still bow and give way for some reason.
"You’re becoming too well known to go incognito with a dress" Kel’Mira jokes. "You were wearing it for the grand opening ceremony, remember?"
Oh yeah. That’s fine though, I really like this dress. I feel like a princess in it, and I can still fight.
We eventually find a 50s style American diner. Big greasy cheeseburgers, crispy fries, amazing milkshakes. Everything a figure conscious young Priestess could want, right?
We stay there through 2 milkshakes and a coffee each before deciding it was time to go back to the rooms in the Adventurer’s Guild.
