Chapter 76: Chapter 76

"Yeah, I already know it," Sebastian said lightly. "She’s already been hostile towards my wife since day one."

"T-then, are you sure it’d be alright? She’s pretty dangerous, right?"

"... I will make sure that she won’t be able to touch my wife. So, rest assured and do what I said," Sebastian said firmly. "I’m off now. Bye."

Beep.

Sebastian sighed as he hung up the call.

It seemed that he was the only blind person in this world, to see that his wife was suffering in the hands of his mother, yet still looked away. He couldn’t take sides because he was afraid to lose any of them.

’Well, in the end, I lost my wife, and my mom showed her true skin. She’s a monster who doesn’t have a familiar feeling to her only son...’

Sebastian looked at the ceiling. It would take a while for him to fall asleep now because his mind kept on repeating his sins towards Winter nonstop.

’If only I could sleep with her right now. I’d hug her, and get a good sleep immediately...’

Winter stared at Aiden who sat across the table with the slow-roasted duck that she made.

It was Aiden’s favorite food because it reminded him of his time living on a farm in the middle of Missouri.

Aiden would kiss her many times whenever she made him something special, and this was no different. He went home after a long day at work, smelled something good in the kitchen, and then began raining Winter with kisses while hugging her from behind.

"It’s a treat today, huh?" Aiden asked as he grabbed the utensils. "Though, I don’t really like eating duck or goose. I see them as friends rather than food."

"Eh?" Winter was shocked. "Y-you don’t like roasted duck?"

Winter got confused because, in her mind, this was the food that would make Aiden the happiest.

’Did I remember it wrong?’ she questioned herself.

"No, I like roasted beef, Winter," Aiden smiled. "I think you’ve mistaken me with Sebastian. He loves slow-roasted ducks. Or rather, he loves any duck-related recipe. Oh, you should add spices to it, Sebastian loves eating spicy food too."

"I—" Winter was speechless when she finally connected the dots. It was indeed Sebastian’s favorite food. She often cooked it for him, because it was the only food that he’d eat until he told her to stop making any recipe related to duck.

Winter stared at Aiden who smiled at her, and the moment she blinked, Aiden had been turned into Sebastian.

"Thanks for the treat, wife. You really know what I like," Sebastian said while stabbing the duck with a fork. "Oh, and thank you for the spicy fried rice too. I’m weak to good food made by my wife. So cook for me every day, alright?"

"I love you, Winter."

...

...

Winter woke up with sweat all over her body. She gritted her teeth when she gradually regained her consciousness and yelled, "Stop messing with my dream, you fucking psycho!"

She got up from the bed, wrapped her body with a jacket, and walked out of the room.

She bumped into Sebastian who was only wearing short pants meant for working out, so it was apparent that he must’ve woken up early in the morning to exercise, just like what he promised.

"Ah, morning, wif—Winter," Sebastian smiled. He had to keep his mouth in check. Whenever he was in a good mood with Winter around, he kept calling her wife or babe.

He had been trying to refrain himself from doing so because he knew Winter would blow up.

"I had just finished my morning workout. I’m going to cook something and take a shower, alright?" Sebastian said as he wiped his sweaty face with a gym towel.

Winter wanted to slap the shit out of this bastard who kept appearing in her dream, but that was something a crazy woman would do.

’Makes me wonder if I’m qualified to be called crazy. No sane woman would kill herself, right?’ Winter pondered for a few seconds before she said, "I don’t need your sweat to drop on my food. Go take a shower, I’ll make something for us."

Sebastian’s eyes widened, "R-really? Will you make something ultra spicy again?"

"I want to. I’m sure you’ll have a few bathroom breaks at work because of that," Winter chuckled as she found the mental image amusing. "But I need you to be efficient in the office. So, I’ll have to keep you alive, like livestock that needs to be raised."

Sebastian shuddered when Winter referred to him as a livestock. But he was also happy that Winter had no ill intention right now.

’Okay, this is still progress, Sebastian,’ he told himself as he had a big smile on his face. "If that’s the case, then I’ll work hard today since you made breakfast for me!"

Winter watched as Sebastian happily returned to his room, and her gaze turned even colder.

She hated how that bastard seemed to have a happy and ignorant life, while Winter suffered every night with him visiting her dreams repeatedly. It was like a neverending torment for her.

Nevertheless, she had to keep him alive while working. He had to be in top shape at work, so he could generate money for her.

"Remember that I keep you alive because you’re useful, not because I love you, Sebastian Saenz."

**

Sebastian left the penthouse earlier right after he finished breakfast. Winter made him toast with a sunny side egg. It was a blessing for him because he was still full after eating so much fried rice last night.

He went to the basement parking lot and saw Arthur leaning on Winter’s car.

When their eyes met, hostility was sparked between both sides, but neither of them said anything. They knew the moment the silence was broken, they could start fighting until they were bruised and bloody.

Thus, Sebastian simply drove his car out of the basement parking lot, and muttered, "I need to talk to Winter about finding a new bodyguard for her."
