Madam, Please Behave
Chapter 407: Smells So Good

Feng Qian arrived at the hospital room where An Yuanyao was staying, with both girls in tow.

His hands were full of gifts, but before he could even knock, Liu Xiazhi, who had already been itching with impatience, burst through the door.

As she ran in, she shouted excitedly,

“Babies!”

Her voice was loud, but she only got the one word out before falling silent—because she saw her dad raise a finger to his lips and go “shh.”

Liu Xiazhi quickly covered her mouth with her hand and nodded obediently.

Feng Qian followed behind.

As soon as he stepped inside, he was met with a room full of people.

He froze for a second, then greeted An Quancheng and the others and introduced himself.

Liu Changqing stood up from his seat and walked over to Feng Qian, taking the gifts from him and placing them neatly by the wall. Then, he began introducing his in-laws and younger brother-in-law one by one.

Meanwhile, Liu Xiazhi, who had stopped talking, managed to spot the baby crib in the room.

She eagerly approached it, full of excitement and anticipation, to see her new baby siblings.

Her face was glowing with expectation—until she actually laid eyes on the two babies inside.

Her expression froze on the spot.

It was as if someone had smacked her square in the forehead with a stick. Her big eyes were wide with disbelief.

“Th-These are my little brother and sister...?”

Though she didn’t say it very loudly, Su Yan, standing not far away, still heard it clearly.

She smiled gently, walked over to Liu Xiazhi, and patted her on the head while looking into the crib.

“They’re cute, aren’t they? They kind of look like you.”

“...”

Liu Xiazhi abruptly turned her head and stared at her grandmother in disbelief.

Do I really look like a little monkey?!

Unaware of Xiazhi’s inner turmoil, Su Yan affectionately gazed at the pair of newborns and continued:

“You’re the big sister now. You have to protect them and take care of them, okay?”

“I...”

Hearing her grandmother’s words, Liu Xiazhi hesitated and glanced at the two sleeping babies again.

She fell quiet.

On the other side, after Feng Qian had been introduced to everyone in the room, something suddenly crossed his mind. He reached out and tugged at Liu Changqing’s sleeve.

“Hey Old Liu... When I came up just now, I saw your car...”

Su Yan, who had been watching the babies with Xiazhi, instantly turned her head when she heard Feng Qian mention the car. Her eyes locked directly onto him.

Feng Qian froze the moment he noticed her gaze.

He could read something in her eyes—

Try finishing that sentence, I dare you.

Liu Changqing turned to look at Feng Qian, puzzled by his sudden stop.

“Yeah, my car. What about it?”

“Your car...”

“Spit it out.”

“It’s... really nice looking.”

“I thought you were gonna say something serious. Didn’t we go pick out that car together?”

Liu Changqing couldn’t help laughing.

Back when he bought it, it was Feng Qian who had immediately liked the model. He knew the guy liked his car, but he hadn’t expected him to still be going on about it after all this time.

This old guy...

He lifted his hand and lightly smacked Feng Qian’s chest with the back of it, teasing:

“If you like it that much, go buy one yourself. You’re not short on cash.”

“...”

“You’ve had your car for a while now anyway. Probably time to upgrade.”

“Um... Old Liu, I just remembered I’ve got some unfinished work. How about I take Shuyan and head back first?”

“What’s the rush? Come take a look at the babies first.”

With that, Liu Changqing led Feng Qian and the girls over to the crib.

Su Yan stepped aside slightly to make room.

Liu Changqing pointed at the baby on the left and said in a hushed voice:

“That one’s the boy—his name’s Liu Zhi’an. The one next to him is the girl—Liu Chunnuan. The boy was born three liang lighter than his sister. Looks like he couldn’t compete with her in the womb.”

“He takes after you.”

“What are you talking about? I think they look more like my wife. Except for the eyebrows—they’re definitely mine. Oh, and maybe the nose…”

“They’re adorable.”

“Of course they are. Look whose kids they are.”

Pleased with the compliment, Liu Changqing reached over and ruffled his daughter’s head.

“She’s a looker too—takes after me. Gorgeous!”

“...”

“Dad...”

Liu Xiazhi suddenly called out to her father.

He looked over at her. “What is it?”

“It’s just... the other day I saw this scene on TV...”

She averted her eyes from his face and looked at the babies in the crib.

After hesitating for a while, she finally asked:

“Is it possible... they got switched at birth? Maybe... these two aren’t actually ours?”

“What are you talking about? This hospital only had one set of boy-girl twins—us. There’s no way they got switched.”

He patted her on the head.

“You silly girl. Always letting your imagination run wild. You need to watch less TV.”

“...”

Normally, Liu Xiazhi would have pouted and begged her dad not to say that.

But right now, she just didn’t have the energy.

Her little hand slipped into her pocket and gripped her phone.

She was struggling...

Should she take a photo or not?

After all, she’d promised a bunch of classmates she’d show them baby pictures...

But with how her siblings looked right now—how could she?

Looks really do matter.

Maybe it was the noise in the room, but one of the babies, Liu Zhi’an, suddenly woke up.

His movements set off a chain reaction, waking up Liu Chunnuan as well. And in an instant, both babies started crying in that unique newborn wail.

The sudden sound startled Liu Xiazhi, who had still been debating whether or not to take photos. She instinctively stepped back.

An Yuanyao, who had been chatting with her sister-in-law, immediately called out:

“Honey, the babies are probably hungry. Bring them over, I’ll feed them.”

“Got it.”

Liu Changqing carefully picked them up in his arms.

As soon as she heard Yuanyao was going to breastfeed, Feng Qian politely turned his head away.

An Quancheng and An Qianxun also moved out of the way. Even though they were family, with an outsider like Feng Qian present, they couldn’t just watch casually.

Once everything was ready, An Yuanyao began nursing. She was lying in a semi-reclined position—this allowed both babies to lie on either side and feed at the same time. It wasn’t the most comfortable position, but it was the best way to nurse twins simultaneously.

Liu Xiazhi and Feng Shuyan were completely awestruck.

As elementary schoolers, this was the first time they’d ever seen anything like it.

Their eyes were filled with curiosity as they watched quietly.

Liu Changqing was watching too.

He had caught the meaning behind what his daughter said earlier. She clearly thought the babies weren’t very cute. But the truth was, all newborns looked more or less like that.

A mother nursing her babies—it was a sacred and beautiful sight.

As a father, Liu Changqing felt the need to say something to his daughter.

He raised his hand and gently patted her on the head, speaking in a low tone.

“Xiazhi, remember—being a big sister means—”

Gulp.

The sound of someone swallowing echoed in Liu Changqing’s ears.

He froze, his carefully prepared speech instantly forgotten, and looked in shock at the source of the sound—his daughter.

An Yuanyao heard it too. So did her sister-in-law and mother. All their eyes turned to Liu Xiazhi.

She was staring at An Yuanyao, wide-eyed with curiosity, and asked:

“They make it sound so tasty... Is it really that good?”
