Chapter 1055: Chapter 1055: What Does Brother Beijue Like
Chi Enen listened intently.
Scarlett, however, couldn’t focus. After wandering around absentmindedly for a while, she suddenly interrupted the old butler and blinked her big eyes, saying, "I’m more interested in hearing about Brother Beijue’s childhood. Could you tell me about it?"
Brother Beijue...
Chi Enen’s brow furrowed slightly.
The old butler also found her sudden interruption rude, but considering her status as a guest and her honourable identity, he responded politely, "What kind of stories about the young master’s childhood does Your Highness wish to hear?"
Scarlett’s big eyes sparkled as she replied enthusiastically, "Anything about Brother Beijue! I want to hear it all."
Her words were so straightforward and fervent that even the old butler couldn’t help but knit his brows briefly. However, he quickly covered it up and said, "The young master was quite withdrawn as a child, so there’s not much to tell."
What he said was essentially a polite refusal to Scarlett’s request. Yet the noble Scarlett, Her Royal Highness, seemed completely oblivious to the perfunctory and rejecting undertone of the old butler’s words. Her red lips curved into a smile, her eyes turned crescent moons, and with unabated interest, she continued to ask, "So Brother Beijue was withdrawn as a child; no wonder... Did he have anything he particularly liked then? I heard before that Brother Beijue has a liking for collecting red wine, but it seemed he didn’t like the gift I brought. Since I’m here after all, I want to give Brother Beijue a greeting gift that he truly likes."
Something the young master likes...
The old butler glanced over at Chi Enen nearby.
It seemed that the young master had never shown a particular liking for anything from childhood to now. Collecting red wine was at most just a hobby.
When it came to what he liked, it seemed the young master had only ever demonstrated such feelings toward Miss Chi.
A particularly strong liking, at that.
This princess couldn’t possibly gift Miss Chi to the young master as a greeting gift, could she?
That’s what he thought in his heart, but of course, he definitely couldn’t say it out loud. Lowering his gaze, he tactfully avoided Scarlett’s coquettish glances and replied in a formal and measured tone, "Apologies, Your Highness, I don’t know what the young master likes."
"Oh..." Scarlett’s eyes betrayed a hint of disappointment but quickly lit up again with a bright smile. Magnanimously, she said, "Never mind, I’ll think about it some more. I’m sure I can figure out a gift Brother Beijue will like!"
The old butler remained noncommittal, leading her onward.
When they neared the garden, Scarlett suddenly stopped, her large black-and-white eyes blinking as she pointed toward the artificial mountain and said, "What’s inside the artificial mountain? It looks interesting. I’d like to take a look."
"Inside there’s a small flower bed. If Her Highness wishes to take a look, I’ll accompany you there," the old butler said, momentarily stunned that she found interest in the artificial mountain and preparing to lead the way.
Unexpectedly, Scarlett stopped him. "No need. You’re getting on in years. That kind of small stone road is too slippery; it wouldn’t be good if you tripped."
"But..." The old butler hesitated.
Before he could finish his sentence, Scarlett unexpectedly wrapped an arm around Chi Enen’s, saying affectionately, "Isn’t this older sister here too? She can show me around just the same."
"Right?"
Chi Enen glanced at Scarlett’s beautiful eyes looking her way, unsure why she had suddenly made such an intimately friendly gesture.
She had distinctly felt the princess’s hostility earlier. But now, in the blink of an eye, it felt like Scarlett had suddenly become an entirely different person.
Could it be that the hostility she sensed earlier was just her own imagination?
