Lust in Ecstasy: Love, Lies and Revenge -
Chapter 68: Consequences.
Chapter 68: Consequences.
I sat there, staring at the floor, thinking about how different things could have been if I had just kept my distance.
If I hadn’t gotten involved with the sisters.
If I hadn’t let things spiral to the point where they were all interested in me.
Now, it was only a matter of time before things blew up.
The way Abby stormed out of my room, I knew she wouldn’t keep this to herself. Sooner or later, she was going to tell someone, and when that happened, I was done for.
I ran a hand through my hair, exhaling slowly.
Maybe I deserved it.
"Things are gonna get a whole lot worse before they get better," I muttered.
I stared blankly at my laptop screen, my mind miles away. Then, all of a sudden—
BANG.
The door swung open so violently it slammed against the wall, shaking the entire frame. Before I could react, Joyce stormed in, eyes blazing with rage.
"You’ve got to be fucking kidding me," she spat. "You? With my sister? Abby?"
She scoffed, shaking her head like she couldn’t believe it.
"I always knew you were pathetic, but this?" Her voice dripped with venom. "Messing with my sister? You really are a stray dog, aren’t you?"
I clenched my fists but stayed quiet.
"Where the hell do you get off thinking you can just do whatever you want in this house?" she sneered, crossing her arms. "You think because you’re under my uncle’s roof, you can spread your filth wherever you like?"
I kept my voice steady. "It’s not like that."
She laughed—bitter, sharp, and full of contempt. "Oh, please. Spare me the bullshit. You’re just some sad little boy who got lucky, and now you actually think you’re something. You’re not. You never were."
Something inside me snapped.
But before I could say anything—
I woke up.
My eyes shot open, my heart pounding.
Just a dream.
I sat up, rubbing my face. But even though it wasn’t real, it didn’t feel any less true. If Abby told Joyce, that’s exactly how it would go. And something told me... it was only a matter of time.
I let out a long breath, running a hand through my hair.
Even though it was just a dream, I couldn’t shake the feeling that it was some kind of warning.
I grabbed my phone, my fingers hesitating over Abby’s name in my messages. Should I text her? Ask her if she’d said anything?
No. That would only make things worse. If she hadn’t told anyone yet, bringing it up might push her to.
I needed to get out of here.
The flight was booked, my bags were packed—I just had to make it through a few more days without everything blowing up in my face.
But deep down, I knew it wouldn’t be that easy.
Abby had left my room upset. And when people are upset, they do irrational things.
And sure enough—
BANG!
The door slammed open again. This time, it wasn’t a dream.
Joyce stormed in, her face twisted with disgust.
"You fucking what?" she spat. "With Abby? Are you serious, Ladi?"
My stomach dropped.
Abby told her. Of course she did.
I sat up, rubbing my eyes, trying to shake off the sleep. "Joyce, calm down—"
"Don’t fucking tell me to calm down!" she cut in, stepping closer, her eyes burning with rage. "You’re just some stray dog we took in, and this is how you repay us? Sleeping around with my sister like some cheap bastard?"
I clenched my jaw, forcing myself to stay calm. "Joyce, this is none of your business."
She let out a bitter laugh. "None of my business? You live in my house. Under my roof. Everything you own is because of my husband. And now you think you can just do whatever you want?"
Before I could respond, she turned and stormed out of the room.
My heart pounded as I realized where she was going.
Daniel.
Shit.
I barely had a second to react before I heard Joyce yelling again, her voice echoing through the house.
"Daniel! Come and hear what your nephew has been up to!"
I felt the walls closing in.
This was it. Everything was about to blow up.
Daniel appeared moments later, his face like stone. Joyce stood beside him, arms crossed, triumphant.
"Ladi," he said, voice calm but deadly. "Is this true?"
I stayed silent.
He scoffed. "So you have no shame?" He shook his head, chuckling. "I knew you were useless, but I didn’t know you were desperate too. Sleeping with the same girls that should see you as a brother? You really have no limits, do you?"
The words stung, but I kept my face unreadable.
"Say something, Ladi," Joyce taunted. "Or do you finally realize what a joke you are?"
I exhaled sharply.
There was nothing I could say that would change how they saw me.
Nothing I could do that would make them respect me.
I had overstayed my welcome.
"I’m leaving," I said, my voice steady.
Daniel raised a brow. "Leaving? Where exactly do you think you’re going? You have nothing. No money, no place to stay. You won’t last a week out there."
I ignored him.
Turning on my heel, I went back to my room and grabbed my backpack.
Faith appeared in the doorway, arms wrapped around herself, eyes glistening. "You’re really leaving?"
I swallowed, nodding.
She bit her lip, stepping closer. "I don’t want you to go."
I forced a smile. "I have to."
Esther appeared beside her, her usual playful expression gone. "So that’s it?" she asked.
"What else can I do?" I said simply.
Then, Abby walked up behind them. Unlike the others, she didn’t look sad. She looked guilty.
"Ladi, I..." she started, but she couldn’t finish.
I didn’t blame her.
I adjusted my backpack and made my way toward the front door.
Daniel was waiting for me. "You’re making the biggest mistake of your life," he said. "Mark my words—you’ll come crawling back."
I met his gaze. "If I do, then I failed."
He scoffed. "You already have."
I stepped past him.
Joyce said nothing, but the smug look on her face told me she was satisfied.
I took a deep breath, stepped outside—
Then paused.
I turned back to Daniel, locking eyes with him as I let the words spill out, slow and deliberate.
"You think I won’t survive without you? Maybe. Maybe not. But at least I won’t be the fool who doesn’t even know his own wife has been fucking another man behind his back."
Silence.
Joyce’s face drained of color.
Daniel frowned, looking between us. "What?"
I let it sink in.
"Your wife has been screwing Abu. In the storeroom. I saw them with my own eyes."
That’s when the room exploded.
Joyce lurched forward. "You lying bastard!" she screeched.
Abby, Esther, and Faith just stared, wide-eyed.
And Daniel...
Daniel looked like a man who had just been shot.
I turned back to the door, pulling it open, the cold night air hitting my face.
I took one last look at the house—the place that never felt like home.
"Thank you for everything," I said.
Then I stepped out into the night, letting the door swing shut behind me.
For the first time in a long time, I felt free.
As soon as I stepped out into the night, the weight on my chest didn’t lighten—it only settled deeper. The cool air bit at my skin, but it did nothing to clear my head. My heart was still racing, my mind replaying every moment, every word, every mistake.
I pulled out my phone, staring at the screen for a moment. My thumb hovered over the contact list, hesitating.
Then, I took a breath and pressed call.
The line rang twice before Eric’s groggy voice answered. "Yo, Ladi? What’s up?"
I ran a hand down my face. "Man... I messed up. Big time."
Silence. A pause just long enough for the weight of my words to sink in.
"Shit," he muttered. "What happened?"
I turned back toward the house, half-expecting the door to burst open, for Joyce to come after me, screaming. But it stayed closed. No shouting, no footsteps—just silence.
"I can’t talk about it over the phone," I said, my voice quieter now. "I just... I need a place to crash for the night. Can I come over?"
Eric didn’t even hesitate. "Yeah, of course. Pull up."
I let out a slow breath, nodding to myself. "Thanks, man. I owe you."
I shoved my phone into my pocket and started walking. Away from the house. Away from the disaster I had caused.
But no matter how far I went, I knew I wasn’t really leaving anything behind.
And I was completely satisfied with that, knowing I was free to do anything I wanted to do without any body stopping me and questioning my decision. I’m Free.
