Lust in Ecstasy: Love, Lies and Revenge -
Chapter 65: Attractions.
Chapter 65: Attractions.
As the night went on, I must have had a bit too much to drink because I was definitely feeling a little tipsy. Then again, almost everyone else was too, and honestly? We deserved it. Weeks and weeks of non-stop work, grinding without a single real break—this was long overdue.
Selena was still with me, effortlessly composed despite the drinks. We kept talking, the conversation flowing easily, laughter coming naturally. Everything was going great—until she suddenly leaned in close, her breath warm against my ear.
"How about we take this party back to your place?"
My eyes widened.
I wasn’t expecting that. At all.
She was gorgeous, and if I was being honest, I hadn’t even considered the possibility of this happening tonight. But was I about to pass up the chance?
Yeah, not a chance.
For a second, I just looked at her, my brain working overtime to process what she’d just said. Was she serious? Or was she just messing with me? But the way she held my gaze, the slight, knowing smile on her lips—I knew she wasn’t joking.
I swallowed, suddenly hyper-aware of how close we were. "You sure about that?" I asked, keeping my voice light, but inside, my heart was hammering.
She tilted her head slightly, amused. "Do I look like someone who says things she doesn’t mean?"
I chuckled, shaking my head. "Not at all."
"Good." She took a sip from her glass, eyes never leaving mine. "So... your place or mine?"
Yeah, she was bold. Confident. And I liked that.
I glanced around—the rest of the team was still caught up in their celebrations, laughing, talking, completely lost in their own worlds. Jason was already three drinks in, going on about how we were all geniuses and how we’d just changed the gaming industry forever. No one was paying attention to us.
I turned back to Selena. "My place," I said, grabbing my jacket.
She smirked, finishing the last of her drink before standing up. "Lead the way, then."
And just like that, we slipped out of the bar, stepping into the cool Vancouver night.
As we walked down the street, the cool night air did little to sober me up, but it felt nice against my skin. The city lights cast a soft glow on the sidewalk, and the distant hum of traffic mixed with the occasional laughter from people spilling out of bars.
Selena walked beside me, hands tucked into the pockets of her coat. "So, be honest," she said, turning to me with a smirk. "When you saw me tonight, did you think you’d be leaving with me?"
I let out a short laugh. "Not at all. I wasn’t even paying attention to you until I caught you staring a few times. Then I began trying to figure out a good way to introduce myself without embarrassing myself."
She laughed. "Well, you definitely failed at that."
"Hey, those were top-tier pickup lines," I said, acting offended.
"Yeah sure, if you were trying to scare me away," she teased. "But I’ll give you points for effort."
I glanced at her, studying the way she smiled, the way she carried herself so effortlessly. "What about you? Did you think you’d be leaving with me?"
She pretended to think. "Hmm... maybe. But I had to test you first."
I raised an eyebrow. "Test me?"
"Yeah," she said, nudging me lightly with her shoulder. "See if you could at least make me laugh. You passed—barely."
I scoffed. "Wow. Barely? Now I feel insulted."
"Good," she said with a grin. "Keeps you on your toes."
We reached the curb just as a cab pulled up. I opened the door for her, and she slid in with that same amused smile on her face.
"Alright, Mr. Game Developer," she said as I got in after her. "Let’s see what your place is like."
We kept joking in the backseat of the cab, the conversation flowing effortlessly between us. Before I knew it, we had arrived at my place. I was definitely feeling the effects of the drinks now—confirmed by the way I clumsily fumbled with my keys at the door.
Selena laughed, easily plucking them from my hands. "Alright, move aside, tipsy." she teased, unlocking the door with ease. She pushed it open and, with a smirk, stepped inside first, playfully inviting me in as if it were her place.
"Thank you," I said, chuckling as I shrugged off my jacket.
"You’re welcome," she said, tossing the keys onto the table like she’d lived here for years.
I gave her a suspicious look. "How are you not even the slightest bit drunk after all that drinking?"
She grinned, kicking off her shoes. "Years of practice, my friend."
I scoffed. "That’s either impressive or concerning."
"Bit of both," she admitted with a wink.
I chuckled, shaking my head as I walked over to the fridge. "You want anything? Water? Juice? Something weaker than whatever you’ve been drinking all night?"
Selena smirked, leaning against the counter. "Water’s fine. Gotta stay hydrated while watching you struggle to keep your balance."
I shot her a look but grabbed two bottles of water anyway, tossing one to her. She caught it effortlessly—figures. Twisting the cap off mine, I took a long sip, hoping it would sober me up a bit.
"So," she said, hopping onto the counter, swinging her legs slightly. "You still tipsy enough to drop more bad pickup lines, or have you retired for the night?"
I groaned. "Come on, you liked them, admit it."
She tilted her head as if considering. "I appreciated the effort."
"Wow. That almost sounded like a compliment."
She grinned. "Almost."
I shook my head, taking another sip of water. The room was quiet for a moment, but not awkward. Just... comfortable. I hadn’t felt like this in a while. Relaxed.
"You know," she started, her tone softer this time, "you’re kind of a big deal now. Does it feel real yet?"
I leaned against the kitchen island, exhaling. "Honestly? I don’t know. Feels like everything’s moving so fast. One minute I was just some guy with an idea, and now... here we are."
She nodded, studying me. "Well, for what it’s worth, I think you handled it pretty damn well."
I looked up at her, meeting her gaze. "Thanks."
She smiled. "So... now what?"
