Chapter 55: Mysterious man
Chapter 55: Mysterious man
In a quiet, lonely corner, a fancy limousine could be seen parked in the deserted part of the city. The limousine looked both expensive and secretive. Although it was mid-afternoon, the inside was dark due to the heavily tinted windows. A man, hidden in the shadows, sat in the luxurious back seat. He held a thick cigarette, its glow barely lighting his face. A red scorpion tattoo on his wrist added a mysterious touch.
From the shadows, the man asked in a rough voice, "Would you recognize him if you saw him again, Simon?" The question was posed to the other man seated across the mysterious man in the limo.
The other man’s face wasn’t hidden in the shadows and was visible to the faint light in the car. His face had a long scar that ran from his eyebrows to his lips, his arm was tightly bandaged, and purple bruises adorned his features. He squinted, recalling the encounter he had with the man who broke his arm in whispering way on Friday night. "It was night, boss. Couldn’t make out his face," he replied, his voice strained with anger as he had been caught off guard that night.
"And I made sure to shoot him, however I bet he didn’t die from the bullet because it was an ankle gun. I sent my men to check in with the hospitals in the City to see if there had been an injured man with a bullet wound, but the man was smart enough not to go to any hospital or to the authorities, so I am sure he isn’t part of the police force. We’ve got almost all the police under our powers, he must be that mysterious man, what was his name again..." Simon trailed off as he tried to remember the name of the man who had been after their mission for ages now, and as if recalling the name, he grimaced in annoyance and said, "Neil Wayner!"
The mysterious man’s displeasure resonated in the confined space. "If you’re being as careful as you’d said, how come this Wayner boy recognized you as one of us and went after you?" He asked, blowing out a cloud of smokes.
Simon’s scarred face turned even more ugly as he replied, "He must have recognized me because of that darn girl who interfered in our last shipment. She probably saw my face and gave out a description."
Hearing that, the man’s face in the shadows hardened in displeasure, "How come this girl is still alive? I thought I made it clear to every one of you that anyone who dares interfer with our business must be put in their grave? So why are you keeping this one alive?"
The Da Kroll Mafia organization never took their inside information lightly, and no one apart from their members were supposed to know anything about how the other person looks like or know about their shipments. But this girl had gone ahead and given out their information to the media. He had ruled the underworld mafia organization for decades now, and he had countless innocent blood on his hands and still slept peacefully at night. He was a man that would not hesitate to kill even his own family for his business. Nobody was beyond his powers, so who was this stupid girl who has ruined his mission and why was she still left alive?
Simon, who sensed his boss’s anger, felt a nervous sweat down his spine. His boss was a powerful man that would ruin even the president if he wanted to. He was the king of the underworld and had many camouflage companies around the world with armed men and deadly weapons. He had taken over the Da Kroll organization when he was in his late teenage years, and rumors had it around his men that he had killed his own daughter years ago for his business. He was a man with no heart, he would kill anybody and everybody to get his business smoothly.
Simon thought, and he swallowed hard before he managed to speak. "Mr Rodrigo, I didn’t kill her because she is the daughter of the well-known Foster family. And seeing that she is the daughter of your business partner in one of your camouflage companies, I didn’t kill her and made our men keep a close eye on her movements, but the girl hasn’t done anything out of the ordinary."
"I don’t care whose daughter she is, get rid of her on the day of our next shipment from Ivy Grove institution. She seems like a nosy person, and you know how important shipping those things out of our hideout in that school is, I can’t afford to disappoint my client again because of some nosy girl. We will use the upcoming events to our advantage and take our things out." Said Mr. Rodrigo with a grave tone. He was one of the Governance of that expensive private University, and he had planted some of his men in the school so his business could move smoothly. And he couldn’t afford some girl ruining another thing for him.
"But if you want me to get rid of her, why wait until the day of the event?" Simon asked.
"Because we can’t afford having that Wayner boy coming after us again. Furthermore, I have some business co-operations with her father in the company, I wouldn’t want him neglecting his work to grieve for his daughter. Let her enjoy her life for as long as it would last then get rid of her on that day, or on a second thought. Don’t kill her, cut off her tongue so she wouldn’t be able to speak to anyone about us again." Ordered Mr. Rodrigo with a sinister grin on his face. But then the smile fell as he recalled the reasons he’d called Simon.
"What about the information I told you to find about Ella? Last time you reported to me that there were leads about her in Zen, have you found her whereabouts in the city?" He asked, his voice taking a more serious note. His eyes showing traces of longing emotion at the mention of the woman’s name.
Simon knew the importance of this mission he’d been assigned by his boss, to find the most important woman to the overlord of the entire Da Kroll organization, Ella Rodrigo, his boss’s long lost wife.
"No. The last information I got from our investigator was that she must have changed her identity and is living another life in a low key town. Our investigator said they got an information of a woman who might have been your long lost missing wife in whispering way, that was why I went down to that town the other day but before I could even go deeper to see for myself if Ella really lived there, I encountered that man."
Kelvin Rodrigo’s light brown eyes hardened, he then slammed his fist on the leather seat of the limo, "We can’t afford to have this Neil Wayner continue to interfere in our mission repeatedly," he declared with a tone that brooked no argument. "You need to look for ways to take care of him as soon as possible. He might be hiding his identity, but he can’t hide forever from us, he’s caused me so much damage already."
Simon, nodded, "Yes, boss. We are trying our best to find him, but because of how good he is in hiding his identity, we are still unable to find him and his other lackeys." He said grimly. For years, this Neil Wayner had remained a mystery to the world and he had been sneaking in the shadows ruining their missions, not once, but he had repeatedly interfered in their shipments and also defused the bombs that were supposed to explode and be tested before they were being sold out through their underworld connection.
"Good. For now keep an eye out for any information about Ella, she can’t hide away forever."
