Loving The Temperamental Adonis -
Chapter 251: Hang in there
Chapter 251: Hang in there
Whoever looked at him knew he needed treatment as soon as possible, but none of them dared approach him again after he’d almost lost his temper with one of the hospital’s persistent nurses who seemed hellbent on getting him into a bed to attend to him while his wife was in the operating room. He’d ignored her for twenty minutes and acted like she wasn’t speaking to him, but when she dared to hold his arm and began to pull him towards a room, he’d yelled at her to leave him the fuck alone before he made her go blind and deaf for being a fool.
His voice had made all heads turn towards him in the waiting room, but he didn’t care. He scowled down at the nurse before barking angrily for her to get out of his sight. Since then, no one had approached him again except for Liam who was now dozing off on the sofa. He didn’t blame the guy; he had not slept a wink since the day Mia had gone missing. Liam had been a good friend and had been the one to command the soldiers despite no longer being one.
He had a company to run and a life of his own to worry about, but he had abandoned that for a whole week to help Neil. He had been the one to secretly plant another tracking device on Neil’s shirt button without his knowledge, and if it hadn’t been for that, they would never have found his whereabouts after Owen had gotten rid of his car. He had insisted on staying in the hospital with Neil when he could have gone home, rested, and had a hearty meal. Instead, he was here, curling his big form on a small sofa trying to take a little nap.
Neil would have felt guilty and would have insisted more for Liam to leave if he wasn’t so worried about his wife to think properly. Thus, he allowed his friend to sleep and continued his pacing. Damnit! What was taking them so long? What’s going on inside? Is Mia out of danger? Oh, please let her be. She had to be.
If anything were to happen to her, Neil did not know what he might end up doing to this hospital and the entire workers. He would not be able to take any bad news at this moment. The hospital was not a big one, but because it was late and before they got her to the big city, she would have lost so much blood, they’d brought her here. Neil would have preferred to take her back to Mirage Mesa City Hospital where she’d receive VIP treatment, but he dared not risk her life at this moment. He would take her away in his private jet once she was out of danger, but for now, he had to wait.
Wait?! Damn, the waiting was killing him. Perhaps his sleep deprivation and weariness were adding to his emotions, but he felt like if the doctors didn’t come out and bring him good news after waiting for this long, he might end up closing down the hospital for their incompetence. Not just the hospital, he would make sure to track down that woman with the face of his wife and kill her himself. She was another reason his darling wife was laying in that room being operated on. Oh, Mia, hang in there.
Neil’s emotions were a tumultuous storm. Each passing minute without news from the operating room felt like an eternity. His heart raced, pounding against his ribcage as if it wanted to break free. He could barely catch his breath, the anxiety constricting his chest. The thought of losing Mia gnawed at his very soul, threatening to rip it apart. Every nerve in his body was on edge, every muscle tensed in a futile attempt to keep the panic at bay. His love for her was so intense that it physically hurt, a raw, visceral pain that made his vision blur and his knees weak. He felt like he was teetering on the brink of an abyss, ready to fall into a dark, endless void if anything happened to her.
His thoughts were a chaotic whirlwind, spiraling out of control as he imagined the worst. He couldn’t shake the image of Mia lying on the operating table, her life hanging by a thread. The fear of losing her was like a relentless tide, threatening to drown him in despair. He had faced many challenges in his life, but nothing had prepared him for this. The helplessness, the waiting, the not knowing—it was driving him to the edge of his sanity!
Neil kept pacing, his eyes darting to the red light above the operating room door, praying for it to turn green. But even after another hour, it was still red. He was about to storm in and demand what was happening when, finally, the light switched to green. Relief washed over him so intensely that he thought he might pass out from it. A doctor walked out of the room, and before the man could say anything, Neil had demanded, "How is my wife?! Is she okay?"
The doctor, taken aback by Neil’s condition, took in his bloody bandage and wounds. He hadn’t seen Neil when he was summoned to the operating room four hours ago, but now that he saw his condition, he was about to suggest getting a nurse to attend to him, but Neil’s murderous expression made him think twice. He cleared his throat and went straight to the point. "We had to perform an emergency C-section to save the babies’ lives. They were born prematurely and are currently in the incubator."
Neil held his breath, realizing the doctor was only talking about the babies when all he wanted to hear about was his wife’s condition. "I didn’t ask you about the babies, damnit! What about my wife?" he cut the doctor off coldly. Though he cared about their babies, not as much as he cared about his wife. Losing the babies would be easy, but losing his wife...that he could never accept. He loved his children but his Mia would always come first.
The doctor, accustomed to dealing with such intense situations, answered without taking offense to Neil’s rudeness. "Though we removed the bullet, she is not yet out of danger."
Neil felt his heart drop to his stomach at those words. His legs threatened to give way beneath him, but he steadied himself and asked calmly, "What do you mean?"
The doctor explained, "We got lucky that she was rushed to the hospital immediately and hadn’t lost that much blood, but because of her weakened body condition, her body is declining after the two operations done on her."
"My wife’s weakened body condition? What do you mean, damnit?" Neil asked impatiently, his voice laced with anger. He only had little patience left in him and he was doing his very best not to strangle this doctor and the entire hospital staff. "My wife has no weakened body condition, she’s a healthy female!"
The doctor looked taken aback by Neil’s words. "But what we discovered said otherwise. Your wife has been surviving all her life with an abnormal internal organ condition. Her lungs are weak. It seems she suffered some internal injuries in the past that caused this, and the bullet wound seems to add to her condition to put her in a critical state."
Neil felt his world beginning to crumble as realization slowly began to dawned on him. This means all the things she’d suffered in her childhood because of Kelvin had left it’s prints on her. All the surgeries, all the unknown drugs planted in her, it had left her with a weakened organ. Was that why she suffered those intense pains? His breath hitched, and his vision blurred. "H-how is she now?" He asked shakingly.
The doctor continued, "She has fallen into a coma, and we need a lung transplant as soon as possible, or we might lose her completely."
Neil felt his legs give out beneath him, and Liam, who had woken up from his short nap, caught him and helped him to sit down. The doctor’s words rang in his ears until the world began to turn dark, and the voices in the hospital became distant. He heard Liam yelling his name, but the exhaustion and his own injuries seemed to have taken their toll. He passed out before he could fight it.
Liam looked at Neil’s state and barked orders to the nurse around them to get him a stretcher. It was even a wonder that he had remained conscious till this time given his condition. He looked like a walking dead with pale skin and swollen wounds, his head was bleeding, but he had fought his weakness until now.
Neil had always been a pillar of strength and determination, he rarely fell sick or get admitted to a hospital, but looking at his battered condition now, broke Liam’s heart. He’d heard what the doctor said about Mia, but because he had never fallen in love with a woman like Neil had fallen for his wife, Liam could not completely understand the feeling or the fear of losing your other half. But he sure as hell understood that he wanted Mia to survive as well. He liked her so much and want her to stand by Neil’s side forever. They were a perfect match and whenever he saw how happy they looked together, it made him want to know what it feels like to be loved.
As they wheeled Neil into a room, Liam tightened his grip on his shoulders, whispering, "Hang in there, buddy. Mia will be fine."
