Loving The Temperamental Adonis
Chapter 239: The kidnapper

Chapter 239: The kidnapper

Silence. He didn’t move or stir from her shaking. Mia’s brow furrowed. She sat on her knees and used her strength to pull him so he was lying on his back, but Mia froze at what she saw. Color drained from her face, and her palm grasped against her mouth.

Mia gasped, trying to hold back her scream and the nausea rising in her throat. She couldn’t believe her eyes at first. With shaky hands and tears blurring her vision, she called his name and shook his shoulder again, but to no avail—Zephyr remained stiff as a frozen piece of meat. His eyes were wide open, and his lips had turned completely dark. His face were as pale as a sheet. There was no sign of breath in him, nor was there a heartbeat.

Her hands flew to her face, covering her mouth and nose as she began to shake her head in denial at the realization that Zephyr was dead. She broke down. Her shoulders trembled uncontrollably, her body shaking with the force of her sobs. She cried out, her voice choked with emotion. "I’m so sorry. I’m so, so sorry." She hugged herself protectively, rocking back and forth as she wept. He’d died because of her. She’d caused his death. How would she ever live with herself knowing a kind soul like Zephyr was killed because of her stubbornness?

If she’d not dragged him into driving her that night, if she’d not tricked him... perhaps he’d have still been alive. He had died a terrible death because of her, he’d gone through days of pain until his last breath because of her.

She hugged her knees, crying until she had no more tears left and her voice was lost. Zephyr’s reassuring words before he fell asleep in the afternoon echoed in her mind. He’d looked at her with a smile and told her, ’Ma’am, if I don’t survive this, please never blame yourself. I will die a happy man knowing you wouldn’t live with the guilt...’

Recalling his words only made her cry out even more. How wouldn’t she balme herself when it was her fault? Oh, Zephyr...She cried until she had no more tears left in her and her voice was lost and her energy was drained, leaving her feeling empty.

A few minutes later, she sat down like a statue without even blinking, staring into space. She heard the door of the place open, but thinking it might be the men who’d brought her food the other day, she didn’t bother to stir from her position. She was exhausted both emotionally and physically. Thus, she remained like that until she heard the last voice she’d expected to ever hear again.

"What the hell is this? Didn’t I tell you to put her in one of the rooms upstairs with a bed? Why is she in this shithole?" came Owen’s voice from the entrance as he yelled at his men.

As if awoken with cold water, Mia jolted back to her senses. Slowly, she turned towards the entrance, gooseflesh rising on her body at her full sight of Owen yelling at his men. She blinked at the sudden realization that Owen was the boss they had been talking about all this while. He had been the one to kidnap her...

"Sir, the lady was being difficult, so I thought if she spent a few days here, she’d come around."

A resounding slap landed on the face of the man who spoke. "That woman is going to be my wife in a few months, how dare you put her in a place like this?" He gritted out angrily. He’d specifically told them not to harm her and make sure she was comfortable until he came, imagine his shock when he walked to the room he’d arranged for her only to find this fucker of his man sleeping in the room, on the bed. While his Mia was in a place that smells like an unwashed public toilet.

Owen was so angry he wanted to beat the shit out of the idiot, but then he thought that could wait for now, he’d traveled all the way from Mirage Mesa to come see his woman and keep her company. He’d brought some special dinner arrangements for both of them to enjoy as he knew she might be dying to have something good after spending three days in a place like this shit hole.

Mia was still processing everything when Owen approached her. Impulsively, she backed away from him. "How could you?" she muttered softly, her lips trembling as she realized Zephyr was no more because of this monster. She’d known Owen had changed from the boy she knew in Whispering Way, but she’d still believed deep down that there was some good left in him. However, now she was more than convinced that he was beyond redemption. As much as she wanted nothing to do with him anymore, she was forced to be in his presence now.

"Aww, sweetheart. You look terrible. Why didn’t you eat your food?" Owen asked, his expression laced with a concern that disgusted her to the bone and made her regret every single day she’d spent with him in Whispering Way.

Mia glared at him, her body trembling with rage. "You... you monster," she spat out, her voice barely above a whisper but filled with anger. "You killed him, you killed him!"

Owen’s smile faded, replaced by a cold, calculating look as his eyes moved to the body lying beside her. He raised a brow. "So you’ve been crying for the death of an insignificant bodyguard? Come on, my love, he’s a nobody. Now, be a good girl and eat your food, or else I won’t take you to the comfortable room arranged for you."

Mia couldn’t believe that after what he’d done, he still had the guts to speak to her like they were still in a relationship. And the fact that he felt no remorse for the death of a human made her loathe him even more. "How did you become so heartless and selfish?" she said, her hate and disgust unveiled.

"What made you think I’d ever listen to you or even touch the food you brought me after everything? I’d rather spend my dying days here than crumble to your mercy. If you think I’ll ever change my mind about you because you have the upper hand here, you are dead wrong, Mr. Sullivan. I, Mia Galverra, will never take anything provided by you. And mark my words, my husband will make you pay for everything you’ve done!"

Owen’s hands balled up at his side at her words, his anger evident in his blue eyes that bore down at Mia as if she’d ripped his heart out and stabbed it countless times.

How dare she still call that son of a bitch her husband? And what made her think that fucker would ever see her again? It seemed she needed to be taught a few lessons so she’d learn to respect and accept his love. He hated the look in her eyes as she looked at him, and it seemed he’d been going too easy on her. Some women just needed a little discipline before they’d obey.

"Mia, Mia, Mia," he said in a sing-song tone. "I hate to resort to this method, but you’ve left me with no choice at all, my sweet. If you don’t want me using that big belly of yours as a ball, you have to learn to obey me and do everything I say," he warned with a smile on his face. Anyway, no matter how he treated her now, she’d still forget it by the time his doctors performed the brain surgery on her after she gave birth and he took her away. So why not just discipline her?

Disbelief and horrified, Mia clutched her stomach protectively and backed away until she felt her back come in contact with the wall behind her. "I’ll never forgive you for this, Owen. Never." She glared up at him with as much hate she could mustered.

Owen’s eyes narrowed. "Your forgiveness is not needed, sweetheart. But your survival is. Now, eat," he commanded sternly.

He motioned to his men, and they stepped forward, forcing Mia to comply as they shoved the tray onto her lap. With tears of anger and helplessness streaming down her face, Mia reluctantly began to force herself to eat for fear that Owen would stay true to his words and hurt her unborn children. As she ate the food without tasting it, her mind raced with thoughts of Neil, praying he would find her before it was too late.

And as if reading her mind, Owen came to stand before her with one of his men pushing a chair for him to sit on. He looked down at her with a smug smile as she ate and glared at him. "What an obedient girl. You must want to know about your fucker of a husband," he said, retrieving his phone from his pocket and browsing through it before shoving it in her face to watch. "Look what he is doing. He couldn’t find you and so he resolved to this. What a loser!" He laughed in her face as her lips began to tremble at the sight of Neil on the screen.

The food remained suspended in Mia’s throat as she watched Neil’s exhausted face in the press conference he seemed to be holding to find her. Heavy dark bags were under his eyes, and he looked to have lost weight as his shirt seemed to hang loosely on him. It was like he hadn’t been sleeping or eating. Mia felt a tight knot in her chest and her eyes filled with tears. Oh Neil, what have you done to yourself? she thought in agony as she listened to his voice in the press conference.

"... just like I’ve said, I’m willing to give a hundred million dollars to whoever finds my wife’s whereabouts. If the hundred million isn’t enough, I will give away anything as long as she’s brought back to me..."

Mia felt her throat burn with emotion as she saw the desperation in those weary gray eyes of his. She clenched her fingers around the tray of food as Owen took the phone away from her view with a laugh that bit at her nerves. She glared at him with tear-filled eyes, but he reached out to touch her cheek. She moved away from his touch.

"You better get used to my touch because it’s the only one you’ll ever receive from now on. Wayner is a loser. He’s willing to give away his wealth to find you. And..." Owen trailed off as an idea suddenly popped into his mind.

Neil Wayner had taken away a lot of his wealth, he’d lost too much because of Neil, and he’d sworn to make the bastard plead to him on his knees. Now that Neil was at his lowest point and was willing to give anything to find Mia, Owen could use this opportunity to get back at him and make him plead on his knees before ending his life. Then, just like his own plan, he’d get rid of Mia’s baby and take her far away from the little bitch, Mariana, who he knew would come after them if anything were to happen to Wayner.

This was a golden opportunity that he might never have again if he let it go! Damnation, he’d enjoy this so fucking much!

Mia saw the glint in his blue eyes and heard his bone-chilling laughter, and knew immediately that Owen was up to something else. "What do you plan on doing to me?" she asked calmly, swallowing convulsively to stop the sudden constriction in her throat.

"Don’t you miss your husband, my love? I will bring your husband to you, and you can say your last goodbyes before I end him right in front of you."
