Chapter 96: Chapter 96: I Know You Have No Hobbies, So I Bought Them for You to Throw Away
"Investigate him. Within three days, I want to know who Cai Quan is."
"Don’t worry, Brother Rui. I guarantee to give you a satisfactory answer within three days. Then I’ll get in touch with you if there’s anything."
After the man finished speaking, he hung up the phone, took off his baseball cap, revealing a glaring scar on the left side of his face that looked even more ferocious in the sunlight.
He put away the cap, lowered his head, and quickly walked out of the alley, blending in with the bustling city.
After Shen Cheng got home, she felt a bit hungry and went to the kitchen for food.
Opening the fridge door, she couldn’t help but frown.
Only instant noodles and beer.
Rolling up the sleeves of her shirt, she reached in, took out the instant noodles, and threw them all into the trash can.
Exactly at this point, Shen Zhongming returned home. Seeing the shoes at the door, he called out, "Girl..."
Shen Cheng, hearing his voice, came out of the kitchen and looked at him with displeasure, disdainfully saying, "All you know is to eat junk food."
Shen Zhongming didn’t respond, carrying stuff inside. Only after closing the door did he comment, "You threw away Dad’s instant noodles again, huh?"
His words came as though he had expected it all along.
Shen Cheng raised her eyebrows, "As many as you buy, that’s as many as I’ll throw away."
"Throw them, throw them. Dad knows you don’t have any hobbies so I purposely bought them for you to throw," Shen Zhongming said, feigning magnanimity.
Shen Cheng was speechless: "..."
"What’s wrong? Are you moved? Feeling the urge to cry...?"
A myriad of black lines appeared on Shen Cheng’s face instantaneously, "Are you out of your mind, you damn gambler?"
"Your Dad is just fine! What could be wrong with me?" Shen Zhongming wasn’t offended and smiled, beckoning her, "Girl, come here, see what delicious things Dad bought for you..."
"Not in the mood, not looking." Shen Cheng wasn’t about to give him any face.
"You wouldn’t even eat Lao Liu’s roasted goose from the northern part of the city?"
"No appetite, not eating."
Shen Cheng responded indifferently and sat down on the couch.
She closed her eyes gently, and a rare sign of weariness showed between her brows.
Seeing her like this, Shen Zhongming, who had just been all smiles, suddenly looked much darker.
It had been six years. His daughter had been supporting this family for a full six years.
Children of other families at her age are probably still acting spoiled in front of their parents.
But his daughter has not had a single day of comfort.
She’s endured so much hardship without ever complaining, and she never once said she was tired.
A sour feeling rose in Shen Zhongming’s heart. Setting aside what he was holding, he sat down next to Shen Cheng.
"Girl." His voice was slightly hoarse.
Shen Cheng didn’t even open her eyes, just wearily responded, "Hmm."
"Tired?" While asking the question, Shen Zhongming’s voice trembled slightly.
"Not tired." The words that spilled from Shen Cheng’s mouth were still so calm.
Hearing that, Shen Zhongming felt a tightness in his chest and fell silent, his eyes filled with turbidity.
The father and daughter just sat on the couch, silent, not speaking for a long time.
After an unknown amount of time, Shen Cheng opened her eyes and slowly uttered, "The chief doctor asked us to go to Jiang City."
"What’s wrong? Is it that brother’s condition is not good?" Shen Zhongming suddenly tensed up, his voice somewhat unsteady, as if he’d never been this anxious before.
"Brother’s fine."
"Then..."
"His condition has improved. There’s a high chance he will wake up."
