The two of them whispered the secretive matters regarding Dongfang Qingqi, leaving Du Minxing in constant astonishment, while Chen Minjue repeatedly furrowed his brows and stroked his beard. Chu Lei pondered for a long time before saying, "This is not something the younger generation should intervene in. Consider today’s conversation as if it never happened. Xuanji, Si Feng, the same goes for you."

Xuanji sighed, "What about the disciples who were expelled?"

Chu Lei said, "I will handle this matter, you all should not get involved anymore." After speaking, he added, "It’s also getting late, go and report back. The Flower Pinning Conference is after all the top priority and must not be delayed."

Xuanji quickly interjected, "And what about the Sea Stabilizing Iron Chain?"

Chu Lei’s brows slightly furrowed as he said in a low voice, "This is not something that can be stopped by the effort of mere mortals, to meddle thoughtlessly is to court death. For now, let’s cool it down. Remaining still to control the situation is the best strategy."

Why does father also say to remain still to control the situation? It seems like these adults are all reluctant to discuss the Sea Stabilizing Iron Chain. Could it be they still don’t believe it?

Yu Sifeng saw her thoughtful expression and gently patted her shoulder, whispering, "We’ll check it out ourselves when Min Yan and the others arrive."

She beamed a radiant smile, indeed Si Feng understands her the best.

Chu Lei’s reunion with an old friend was naturally another lively occasion. Seeing the brilliant blue treasure sword hanging from Xuanji’s waist, Dongfang Qingqi couldn’t help but smile and say, "Earlier you complained that Brother Chu was playing favorites, that Little Xuanji didn’t even have a suitable weapon, yet when you make a move, it’s the Bengyu. Now that both swords have found their owners, Valley Master Rong must be happy as well."

Chu Lei was always jovial in his presence and now laughed as well, "I am ashamed that the two children’s powers are still shallow and they cannot bring out the Divine Artifact’s full power. They can only slowly hone their skills."

Although Valley Master Rong had gifted the swords under the pretext of celebrating Chu Lei’s daughter’s birth, the child was too young then to wield blades or guns. In the past years, it had always been He Danping wielding the Broken Gold, and he himself the Bengyu. However, who knew that although both swords came from Dianjing Valley, their natures turned out to be different. He Danping’s external family swordsmanship was first-class, and wielding the Broken Gold made her even more powerful. But the Bengyu in Chu Lei’s hands, for some reason, felt somewhat off.

The so-called off feeling was that it was not fitting to his hand; while the sword was sharp, he could not infuse Sword Qi into it. The moment he began his cultivation, the sword acted like a sponge, absorbing all his Sword Qi like water, without any chance of release. A sword that couldn’t emit Sword Qi, even if it was a Divine weapon, was useless.

He initially thought it was a matter of the incorrect method being used and even specifically sought advice from Valley Master Rong. Only after his guidance did he realize that his Qi was incompatible with the sword. In other words, while Broken Gold could be wielded effectively by anyone, Bengyu was selective about its owner. If the Qi didn’t match, no matter how capable you were, the sword could only serve as a decoration.

Left with no choice, he had to seal the Bengyu away, hoping to find a suitable owner for it in the future.

"Xuanji, whether or not you can use this sword is still a matter of fate," Chu Lei sighed softly. He had just seen his daughter safe and sound, which made him too emotional to remember to advise her; now he recalled and enjoined, "Try to cultivate and see if you can emit Sword Qi."

Xuanji had just received a sword she liked, but hearing him say this, she couldn’t help feeling disheartened; it turns out that just being given it didn’t mean it was truly hers. She stepped out of the main hall, drew out Bengyu, held it in her hand, focused her mind to cultivate, and with a sudden flick of her wrist, she lightly and deftly drew a half-arc in the air—the target being several bamboos across from the main hall.

Everyone’s eyes widened in anticipation, waiting for a long while. There was no sound, no flash of the sword, nothing at all. The bamboo on the opposite side stood intact, not even a leaf had fallen.

"Er..." Xuanji was immediately filled with disappointment. Could it really be that she was unable to use Bengyu?

Chu Lei inwardly heaved a sigh, realizing that Xuanji was not the right owner after all. Seeing his daughter’s face filled with bewilderment and distress, he felt somewhat reluctant to cause her pain and went over to pat her head, speaking gently, "Never mind, daddy will pick another good sword for you next time."

Dongfang Qingqi also joined in to lighten the mood with a smile, "Little Xuanji, don’t be upset. There are plenty of swords better than Bengyu in the world! You’ll surely find one that suits you."

Xuanji could only nod her head, still somewhat reluctant, and looked at Bengyu in her hand. It was so beautiful, and it was her first time being so smitten with a sword at first sight. Yet love was unrequited... She used a jumble of idioms as she turned and went back to the main hall with everyone.

Suddenly, Chen Minjue exclaimed, "Wait! Look quickly!"

Everyone turned back, only to see the several bamboo stalks across the way slowly splitting in half from the middle and, with a swoosh, falling to the ground. Chu Lei quickly stepped forward, reached out to touch the smooth surface of the cut—mirror-like in smoothness, and moreover... cold, carrying a chill.

He turned his head in disbelief, looking at Xuanji, who was equally incredulous, and muttered, "Xuanji, you can actually become the master of Bengyu."

"Ah? Oh... um..." Xuanji uttered unconsciously, and once again held Bengyu before her eyes to examine it. She could use it again; did this mean a good sword deserved a second chance...

She was still trying to string together idioms haphazardly when Chu Lei became visibly excited, laughing and saying, "You can truly wield it! This is wonderful! It’s incredible that the Bengyu, which neither your mother nor I could use, can emit Sword Qi in your hands!"

Now she had truly become the master of Bengyu, and her fellow disciples, along with Dongfang Qingqi and the disciples from Fuyu Island, all came over to offer their congratulations. Xuanji, however, just stood there with a silly smile, gazing fondly at Bengyu.

With the sword and the person as one, they could almost be considered an immortal couple, carefree in the world. She continued to misuse idioms, content and satisfied.

After the casual conversation ended, the younger generation took their leave, each being led by a disciple from Fuyu Island to their guest rooms. Chu Lei and Dongfang Qingqi stayed to finalize the list of competitors for the Flower Pinning Conference, listing out the names of disciples from their respective sects who were of the appropriate age, and discussed the selection process.

In the end, each sect decided on twelve participants, with the list from the Shaoyang Sect prominently featuring many from the Min Generation.

"Oh, Min Yan will also participate?" Dongfang Qingqi, looking at the list Chu Lei handed over, expressed some surprise.

Chu Lei nodded and said, "He is now eighteen as well, the perfect age to give it a try. It’s only by competing with fellow disciples from other sects that he’ll understand his own weight."

"Wasn’t he on a trip to gain experience? Did he know he was going to compete beforehand?"

Chu Lei laughed, "No, I didn’t tell him. This kid might look carefree on the surface, but he’s actually very proud at heart. If I’d told him early on, he would’ve been distracted during his travels. Young disciples already master their moves quite well but lack experience. Traveling is a learning process."

Dongfang Qingqi smiled and agreed, "Your methods of teaching disciples have changed quite a bit recently, quite adaptable from before."

Chu Lei simply smiled without saying a word. In truth, Xuanji’s situation had profoundly impacted him; his daughter, whom he’d always thought to be of little talent, was taught by Chu Yinghong to excel, causing him to doubt his own rigid methods and whether he’d missed many talented disciples. He began learning about each disciple’s temperament, tailoring his instruction to their individual needs. Chen Minjue from the Min Generation – a disciple he’d always ignored – seemed to be the biggest beneficiary.

In just a few short months, he was able to learn the basics of the Five Elements Skill, much to Chu Lei’s delight. He would often sigh, lamenting his previous stubbornness and wondering how many disciples like Chen Minjue had left due to their master’s indifference.

"I just received a message from the disciples, saying that Lize Palace and Dianjing Valley have sent letters and will be arriving in the next two days. As for the Xuanyuan Sect, there has been no word at all, which is really troubling."

Dongfang Qingqi rubbed his temples, showing a hint of fatigue. The shadows under his eyes were dark and deep, making him appear much older in that instant.

"If they don’t take the Flower Pinning Conference seriously, let’s just not bother with them. That Xuanyuan Sect always likes to oppose others; it’s extremely annoying."

Chu Lei heard this and simply smiled faintly, saying softly, "You don’t look too good; it can’t be because of Xuanyuan Sect, can it?"

Dongfang Qingqi was suddenly jolted, and the teacup in his hand tipped over, spilling a large patch of tea on his clothes.

"Ah, it seems I’ve really gotten old, can’t even hold a cup properly," he mocked himself.

Placing the cup down, Chu Lei spoke in a low voice, "Qingqi, what’s the matter with those disciples you drove away?"

Dongfang Qingqi stared blankly ahead for a long, long time, before finally saying, "Karma... I didn’t heed the advice of Valley Master Rong and you that day... it’s laughable that I still can’t bear it even now..."
