Chapter 271: Final Volume: I Am Liuli Chapter 30: Liuli (Part 10)
Yu Sifeng was also utterly astonished to encounter her here. As the person threw herself into his arms, he instinctively steadied her shoulders and called out in confusion, "Xuanji?"
Before she could answer, he suddenly touched his own face and marveled, "Is this not the Netherworld anymore? You all... did not die?"
Xuanji was both excited and overjoyed, hardly able to comprehend what he was saying. On the side, Wuzhiqi chuckled, "Just now, this white-haired kid and I were running amok here, looking for the Heavenly Emperor. Unexpectedly, fire started raining from the sky. It didn’t hurt anyone who was hit, but the surroundings caught fire, and casualties were inevitable. I suggested that we should just care for ourselves and leave, but this kid refused. He insisted on going back and finding a safe place for his former immortal colleagues. Later, seeing all other buildings in flames except for this one, we brought them here, just look," he said.
Pointing to the ground behind them, indeed, many immortals were lying in disarray, all caught in a massive net. Tengshe, with his great strength, had dragged them all the way here with an unperturbed expression. It was only pitiful for the immortals who were rudely hauled over while unconscious, their bodies and faces likely bruised and swollen from the bumps and scrapes.
Xuanji finally calmed down a bit and, rubbing her eyes, asked, "You... didn’t kill them?"
Wuzhiqi laughed and rolled his eyes towards Emperor Bai. He said, "These Heavenly Emperors and Emperor Bais and Black Emperors, they were all hoping that I would kill a few more so that they could pin a crime on me. I won’t let them get what they want. Do they really think I’m some kind of idiot who relies solely on brute force?"
Tengshe wiped his face, only to smear it more—what was black turned blacker, and what was white also darkened. He sighed, "Fortunately, this damn Heavenly Fire doesn’t hurt people. If it had been a rain of fire, even Ying Long wouldn’t have been any help; he couldn’t extinguish this fire. I wonder which fool was playing with Heavenly Fire! It’s even burned up to Heaven!"
Xuanji indifferently said, "I started the fire."
Upon hearing this, everyone was stunned, staring at her, waiting for her explanation. After pondering, Xuanji added, "It’s a long story... How did you and Si Feng end up together?"
Wuzhiqi explained, "This white-haired kid and I had just broken into this divine palace when that bird demon kid showed up. He wasn’t surprised to see us and blurted out the first question, ’You’re dead too?’ It was utterly baffling."
Yu Sifeng had no choice but to say, "I was taken to the Netherworld by that beam of light... It’s a long story. After saying goodbye to Zi Hu, I thought I would return to Heaven. But instead I landed in the dungeons of the Netherworld. Yuan Lang was still ranting and cursing, so I just pushed the door and walked out, and then I ran into you all... So this place is already Heaven?"
He still wore a look of disbelief, as if he couldn’t quite trust that he had made an inexplicable trip through the Netherworld and returned unharmed.
Wuzhiqi, hearing him mention Zi Hu and Yuan Lang, knitted his brows, opening his mouth as if he wanted to ask something, but in the end, he didn’t. He simply sighed deeply and looked toward the hall. He saw the curtains hanging all around, Emperor Bai looking desolate, kneeling there without a trace of his usual elegance. Wuzhiqi was also very curious, and he pulled Xuanji over to whisper, "Hey, what exactly did you do before we got here? Even Emperor Bai is crying because of you?"
Xuanji didn’t respond. After seeing that everyone was safe, her killing intent seemed to have subdued significantly. The Heavenly Emperor wasn’t wrong—she now had more important people in her life, had learned to treasure and to restrain herself. Si Feng had also said that the past and the present were different, and dwelling on the years gone by could only lead to losing what was most precious in the present.
Perhaps from another, rather melancholic perspective, she should also thank Emperor Bai for his cruelty; otherwise, Luo Hou and Jidu would never have known what it was like to be human, and Chu Xuanji would never have existed.
A truly happy and content person would not complain or quibble meticulously. She hadn’t understood this before, but she did now. As a special being, who went from a Shura to a War God, and from a War God to a mortal, every step she took was solitary, filled with bloodshed and betrayal. Hence, she would cherish all that she had now, feeling a sense of contentment when thinking about her future life.
This contentment and warmth easily wore down one’s fighting spirit. In that moment, she truly wanted to say, let everything pass. She could pretend that nothing had happened—the resentments of the past were merely a burden in her heart. Right or wrong, there was no need to make such distinctions—surely, Luo Hou and Jidu wouldn’t want the one they once deeply loved to die a tragic death.
Xuanji was about to speak, when suddenly, from atop the case, the Luminous Glass Vase emitted a soft chime. The kaleidoscopic flames inside, surprisingly penetrating the vase, leaped over a yard high. This startles everyone, and for the first time, Xuanji saw such an anomaly occur with the Luminous Glass Vase; her first thought was: With most of Luo Hou’s soul and heart locked inside, could it have developed its own consciousness?
But before she could reflect further, the Luminous Glass Vase suddenly flew up, like a treasure sword unsheathed, like a long rainbow piercing the sun, or a swift arrow that was nearly impossible to see clearly. Emperor Bai only heard the wind above his head and looked up in time to see the Luminous Glass Vase hurtling towards him. There was a "bang" on his forehead as it struck him hard, causing blackness before his eyes and dizziness.
Reacting instinctively, Emperor Bai reached out to catch the Luminous Glass Vase, regardless of his bleeding head, and held it in his hands to observe. The fresh blood from his forehead drip, drip, dripped onto the vase, and the once brimming kaleidoscopic flames gradually calmed down, swimming back and forth within the glass, as if the resentment was finally being appeased.
Emperor Bai’s voice trembled, "Jidu, were you here all along?"
The Luminous Glass Vase naturally cannot speak in response to him; it only changed its radiance in myriad ways, truly emanating a sense of spirituality that resonated with his words.
Emperor Bai couldn’t help but have tears brimming in his eyes, choking up as he said, "Little brother I... I’ve made a grave mistake!"
Seeing the always graceful and handsome Emperor Bai become so disheveled, with his face covered in blood and tears, and his clothes all messy, Tengshe felt terrible inside. Emperor Bai had always doted on him, never held his faults against him, treating him like a mischievous younger relative rather than an imposing emperor with strict hierarchy. Checking him in his heart as an endearing elder, now, seeing him in such a state, Tengshe couldn’t help but step forward to assist, whispering, "Emperor Bai, please get up first."
Wuzhiqi was the most sensitive and suddenly sensed something amiss, grabbing his sleeve urgently and said, "Don’t go over there!"
The color of the Luminous Glass Vase gradually became eerily otherworldly. Even Wuzhiqi, who had seen much, had never seen colors changing so frequently and violently. It was like a blurry and bewildering dream, elusive and impossible to approach. Emperor Bai’s fresh blood and tears dripped onto it, pooling into the recess of a pattern on the vase. The color became even more intense, to the point where everyone thought that some miracle was about to manifest, perhaps the resurrection of Luo Hou and Jidu, or the vase might even begin to speak.
Xuanji was also utterly confused. Back when Emperor Bai had dismembered Luo Hou and Jidu, the Luminous Glass Vase represented Luo Hou, and she became Jidu. After a thousand years, Luo Hou and Jidu finally met again, yet the fusion they imagined did not occur. Perhaps it was Jidu’s instinct to repel Luo Hou, or Luo Hou had sensed that this life’s Jidu was no longer the Shura of the past, and thus, did not recognize her. Xuanji’s heart was set on killing Emperor Bai, ending this vendetta, but with the Luminous Glass Vase reacting so significantly, could it truly be unwilling to let her kill him?
She felt somewhat moved. The Shura’s passionate feelings, persisting for over a thousand years, had not faded. Could it be that even though she understood all of Emperor Bai’s actions, she still couldn’t bring herself to blame him? She had only smashed a hole in his head, but perhaps, in her heart, love outweighed hate.
Emperor Bai’s hands trembled as he cradled the Luminous Glass Vase, murmured, "The days at Zuilang Pavilion, drinking with Brother Jidu, and laughing about life’s pleasures, I’m afraid can never be returned to."
Of course, the Luminous Glass Vase still could not speak; its colors changing rapidly, dreamlike and illusory. As one looked longer, the luster seemed more chaotic, and it felt as though it could ensnare one’s soul.
Suddenly, the myriad transformations of the Heavenly Demon abruptly ceased, and the Luminous Glass Vase turned into a pure white. Following a crisp "crack," the vase gently split. Emperor Bai’s eyelashes quivered, as if he wished to hold the crack together, but a wisp of multicolored flames leaked from the crack, lightly touching his fingertips. In the next moment, he was engulfed by the suddenly fierce multicolored flames.
Tengshe, alarmed, broke free from Wuzhiqi’s hold and dashed forward to attempt a rescue. Wuzhiqi firmly stopped him and, eventually, simply kicked him to the ground and stood on him to prevent any movement.
"You fool! Are you rushing to your death? This is Shura’s vengeance!" Wuzhiqi barked sharply.
The bizarre multicolored flames entirely devoured Emperor Bai. He first shuddered, a pained expression crossing his face. Then, gradually, his expression softened, his hands folded at his heart as he murmured, "Good, I’ve waited a very long time for this day." He opened his palm, and a glint of cold light appeared—a dagger appeared in his hand, the very weapon he had used to behead Luo Hou and Jidu.
It seemed as though he intended to use the dagger on himself, but before he could move, the dagger turned to ash in the flames. Emperor Bai exhaled deeply, his eyes slowly closing, all his garments turning to ash as well, except for a golden seal on his forehead that shone brightly.
Wuzhiqi suddenly felt a thumping under his ribs as if something was desperate to burst forth. Before he could react, the Sea Control Hook inexplicably shone brightly and darted out, twirling through the air and, like a shooting star, stabbing through the top of Emperor Bai’s head, pinning him to the ground.
All around gasped, unsure whether to rush to his aid or turn away from such a cruel scene. Blood spread across the ground like numerous little red rivers. Emperor Bai suddenly smiled, softly saying, "I shall depart now. The Six Paths of Reincarnation await me, to walk once more, to comprehend the Great Dao."
As he finished speaking, the golden seal on his forehead suddenly lost its luster, and his entire body turned to black ash in an instant. As the flames churned above and below, the ash twisted ceaselessly, much like his acquaintance, meeting, and parting with Luo Hou and Jidu—their intertwined love and hatred were not something that could be described in just a few words.
Everyone watched this heart-stopping scene in silence, no one spoke. Time passed before the multicolored flames gradually extinguished, and the Luminous Glass Vase was already reduced to ash. The separated Luo Hou had chosen such a way to exact revenge, which was indeed beyond Xuanji’s expectations. They all thought Luo Hou and Jidu had chosen to forgive, but a thousand years later, deep-seated rage still lurked in her heart, ultimately allowing her nemesis to die by her own hand.
The Heavenly Fire outside the hall gradually stopped falling, ceasing altogether, but the great fire above Kunlun Mountain and from the Heaven above still blazed on, with no sign of extinguishing. Xuanji stood dazed for a long time before finally stepping forward, squatting down, and gently searching through the pile of ash, although it was unclear what she was looking for.
Behind the screen, the Heavenly Emperor let out a faint sigh, murmuring, "They... they’ve all left, and none have remained behind." (To be continued, if you wish to know the rest, please visit www.qidian.com. More Chapters are available, support the author, support genuine reading!)
