Love In Disguise: Rebirth of the Heiress -
Chapter 78
Chapter 78: Chapter 78
I tapped my chin, reluctantly considering his suggestion. "It’s risky. Jessica isn’t stupid. She’ll see right through it if I’m not careful."
Jason leaned back in his chair, the shadows from the dim office lighting sharpening his features. "Jessica isn’t as clever as she thinks. Desperation clouds judgment. She’s desperate now. Desperation makes people sloppy."
I sighed, leaning forward on the table. "Maybe, but she’s dangerous when cornered. I know her. She’ll claw her way out of anything if she smells even a hint of a trap. I need more... something ironclad."
Jason raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into a small, humorless smile. "Then tell me, Kiara. What have you found?"
I hesitated, glancing at the file on the table. He had been flipping through it while I explained what Jessica and Gabriel did.
It contained most of the things that they did.
Hurtful things.
The truth was ugly, but Jason needed to hear it.
"Mrs. Greene didn’t just disappear like you saw on the file. She was killed. Jessica murdered her."
Jason’s eyes snapped to mine, the amusement vanishing from his face. "What?"
I nodded, my voice steady despite the weight of my words. "I put a camera in Jessica’s room. I wanted to gather dirt on her for leverage, but I didn’t expect... this."
Jason’s jaw tightened. "Tell me everything."
I took a deep breath, the scene playing vividly in my mind. "Mrs. Greene went to Jessica’s room that night, demanding rent. She was kinda like a bully, mocking Jessica, calling her a slut. But Jessica... she played the victim, acted apologetic. Then, when Mrs. Greene let her guard down, Jessica grabbed a knife and stabbed her. Repeatedly."
Jason’s hands clenched into fists, his voice low. "And the body?"
"She called Gabriel," I said, my stomach twisting at the memory. "Together, they moved the body and hid it. I... I had someone retrieve it later and bury it in a safe location."
Jason stared at me, disbelief and anger warring in his expression. "You buried it? Why the hell didn’t you go to the police?"
"Because," I snapped, "Jessica and Gabriel are manipulative. A simple arrest won’t stop them. They’d find a way out, like they always do. No, I want to destroy them completely. Piece by piece. Prison isn’t enough, Jason. They deserve to pay. If they don’t die. I die remember."
"Then let me. I will get someone to kill them in there."
I shook my head, "No. No. I want them to suffer. They deserve to suffer piece by piece. To be hurt. To be broken and feel as if there is no way out."
Jason let out a sharp breath, his fingers raking through his hair. "You’re playing a dangerous game, Kiara."
I met his gaze, unwavering. "So are you."
For a moment, silence stretched between us, thick with tension. Finally, Jason picked up the file and began flipping through it, his frown deepening with every page. "You said this was spur-of-the-moment. But if what you’ve written here is true, it looks like Jessica was planning this for a while."
"Exactly," I said. "She knew Mrs. Greene traveled a lot and had no close family. People barely noticed when she disappeared. Jessica took advantage of that."
Jason closed the file and looked at me, his expression unreadable. "If you are preparing for revenge. Dig two graves."
I frowned, "What does that mean?"
"When you take things like this personal, you hurt yourself. If you aren’t careful, you will eventually destroy yourself."
I swallowed hard, my throat dry.
"Mrs. Greene deserved justice. But yes, Jason, this is personal. Jessica and Gabriel have ruined too many lives. I won’t stop until they’ve lost everything. So if I eventually destroy myself, then so be it."
"Don’t be stupid Kiara." his eyes was watching me, with pity, I clenched my fists.
"Don’t do that. Don’t look at me with pity."
I turned away from him, I felt a hand on my face, slowly tucking a strand of brown hair away from my face.
"I don’t pity when I know exactly what you are going through, but this..." he looked down at tge files. "Kiara, using Mrs. Greene’s death as a weapon—"
"Don’t," I cut in sharply, my hands balling into fists. "Don’t lecture me about morality right now. Jessica took everything from me in my last life. She took my trust, my love, my dignity. Now she’s taking lives."
He studied me for a long moment before sighing.
"Alright," he said finally. "What’s the plan?"
I relaxed slightly, leaning back in my chair. "I want to keep the video under wraps for now. Use it as leverage if she tries to slip away. But we need to build a stronger case—tie her to Gabriel, expose their schemes, and dismantle everything they’ve built."
"In terms of Joselle, what do you have? Have you dug up anything?"
Jason leaned back, rubbing his jaw. "Her story’s... complicated." He hesitated before continuing. "Joselle grew up in poverty. Her family was barely scraping by, and when her younger brother got sick, they couldn’t afford medical care. He died because of it."
I felt a pang of sympathy, but Jason’s tone turned cold.
"She begged for help, even from my family. We—" He paused, his jaw tightening. "They threw her some change and walked away. That’s when she decided she’d never be powerless again."
"She used you," I said softly.
Jason nodded, a bitter smile tugging at his lips. "And everyone else she met along the way. To her, I was just a ticket to the life she wanted—one where she could take revenge on people like me. She used me to get her modeling gigs. I still can’t find her motive in wanting to hurt everyone rich when she is rich herself."
"Maybe she wants attention."
"Maybe. But she went about it the wrong way. Heck if she had come to me I would have helped. But I didn’t even know. So to get what she wanted, she slowly destroyed me. To her, I’m just another face of the elite she despises. . Her goal is simple—take everything I have and ensure she never goes back to the life she left behind."
I leaned back, my mind racing. "Then she’s just as dangerous as Jessica and Gabriel."
Jason’s gray eyes met mine, hard and unyielding. "More dangerous, in some ways. Joselle doesn’t act out of desperation—she’s methodical, calculating. She knows exactly what she’s doing."
"Then we take them all down," I said firmly. "Jessica, Gabriel, Joselle—every last one of them."
Jason held my gaze for a moment before nodding. "Together."
I extended my hand, and he shook it, his grip firm. "Together," he echoed.
A small smile tugged at my lips. "You know, for someone who’s supposed to be intimidating, you’re surprisingly agreeable."
Jason smirked. "And for someone who’s supposed to be a victim, you’re surprisingly ruthless."
"I take that as a compliment," I said, leaning back.
His eyes softened as he watched me, and for a moment, the weight of our plans faded. "You’re full of surprises, Kiara."
"Speaking of surprises," I said, narrowing my eyes, "what’s the color of your eyes?"
Jason blinked, caught off guard. "Gray. Why?"
I frowned. "I swear I thought they were blue."
He tilted his head, a playful smirk curling his lips. "Sure it’s not just the trick of the light?"
"Or maybe you’re just messing with me," I shot back, crossing my arms.
Jason chuckled, but his amusement faded as his phone buzzed on the table. He glanced at the screen, his expression hardening. "It’s Lucian. He wants us to meet up."
