Chapter 76: Chapter 77: Please, Leave This Child to Me 1

Brandan walked over and threw the pregnancy report in front of her, his voice eerily calm: "Explain."

Iris closed her eyes, "I can get a divorce."

"..." Brandan said nothing, just stood in front of her, looking at her.

Iris lowered her head slightly, not daring to face Brandan’s expression, not daring to look into his eyes, afraid she might start crying.

She couldn’t afford to cry now; she had to protect this child from him. She couldn’t let him get rid of it.

"I can get a divorce." Iris forced her voice to stay calm, "I can see a lawyer right now, leave with nothing, I don’t want anything, I... ah!"

A hand suddenly reached over, grabbed her throat, and pressed her hard against the wall. Iris felt a wave of suffocation and fearfully raised her eyes to see the man’s cold, sinister gaze.

There was only furious anger in them, no compromise or permission.

"What did I tell you before?" Brandan asked, word by word, "If you dare give birth to this child, I will strangle him myself!"

Iris’s body began to tremble uncontrollably, fear tightening her throat, leaving her almost speechless.

"But it’s your child too!" She was almost crying out, "Brandan, the baby in my belly is your child!"

"I don’t want a child right now!" Brandan said angrily, "Iris, do you think you can keep me tied to you forever with a child? How are you different from those cheap, despicable women?!"

His tone unknowingly carried a hint of disappointment.

"No, it’s not like that..." Iris shook her head, "I never intended to tie you down, Brandan, I can get a divorce, truly, I don’t want anything, I just want this child..." She couldn’t help but cry, "Please, give him to me, he’s all I have left..."

If she lost him, perhaps she would never have a child in her lifetime...

She had no family, no parents, she was alone, she just wanted a child, a family member connected by blood...

"I won’t cling to you." Iris did her best to make her expression look credible, because that’s what she genuinely thought, "I’ll leave with the child, and you’ll never see me again for the rest of your life. You can be with Viola, and I won’t bother you any longer... You can pretend this child doesn’t exist, really, please believe me..." By the end of her speech, her voice had unconsciously started to tremble, extreme fear making it hoarse, "Brandan, give me this child... he’s all I have left..."

"..."

Brandan didn’t say a word, just looked at her, his dark eyes reflecting her disheveled, pale expression.

Iris thought he finally wavered, and couldn’t help but hold onto a sliver of hope in her heart. She continued, "I can sign the divorce papers right now, you set the conditions, I don’t want anything, alright? I won’t tell Viola, I’ll take the child far away, you will never see us again for the rest of your life... Really, believe me, alright?"

She laid out her whole plan, just hoping this heartless man would believe her, believe that she would never trouble him again in the future.

"..."

Brandan slowly withdrew his hand from Iris’s neck, and she watched his action, feeling as if all the strength in her body was suddenly released, feeling a slight sense of survival after a calamity.

Did he finally believe her...?
