Chapter 305: Rebuilding Grafen with Passion (4) Military and Recruitment
Lyan woke early, the memories of the passionate act before still vivid in his mind. The morning sun cast a warm glow through the grand windows, illuminating the intricate stonework of the castle. He dressed quickly and made his way to the meeting hall, where Wilhelmina and the Valkyries were already gathered.
"Good morning, everyone," Lyan greeted, his voice filled with purpose. "How’s everyone feeling today?"
Wilhelmina, sharp-eyed and focused as always, nodded. "Morning, Lyan. Ready to tackle the day’s challenges. We’ve got quite a bit to cover."
Surena grinned, her long greyish-brown hair shimmering in the sunlight. "And maybe we’ll find some time for a bit of fun later, right?"
Lyan chuckled, appreciating the lightness in the air. "Let’s get through the business first, then we’ll see about the fun."
The meeting commenced with an overview of their progress. Wilhelmina led the discussion, detailing the key administrative roles they needed to fill: treasurer, magistrate, chief of security, head of agriculture, and a few more. The room buzzed with a mix of excitement and determination.
Surena leaned forward, her eyes gleaming. "We’ve reached out to the surrounding villages and towns. There are plenty of skilled folks who could be real assets to Grafen."
Lyan nodded, impressed by their thoroughness. "What kind of budget are we looking at to recruit these people?"
Wilhelmina glanced at her notes. "Around 30,000,000 Elnes gold coins should cover the immediate costs. That includes salaries, training, and setting up their offices."
"That’s a lot," Lyan mused, "but it’s an investment in Grafen’s future. Let’s make sure we attract the best candidates possible."
The conversation shifted to the specifics of their recruitment strategy. They planned a series of open forums in Grafen and nearby areas where potential candidates could learn about the positions and express their interest. Criteria were set for each role, focusing on experience, skills, and a commitment to Grafen’s development.
"We should also emphasize the benefits of joining our administration," Surena suggested. "Stable employment, fair wages, and the chance to be part of something transformative."
"Right," Lyan agreed. "We need to make it clear that this isn’t just a job. It’s a chance to rebuild and improve Grafen for everyone."
With the plan set, they turned their attention to the training grounds. The Valkyries had already started training a group of recruits—a mix of men and women from Grafen and nearby villages. There were about fifty recruits in total, their backgrounds diverse but their determination evident.
Lyan watched as Surena and the other Valkyries led the recruits through rigorous training. They practiced swordplay, archery, and hand-to-hand combat, their movements precise and disciplined. The recruits responded eagerly, their respect for the Valkyries clear in their focused expressions and unwavering dedication.
As Lyan observed, he couldn’t help but feel a surge of pride—and something more. Seeing his women in positions of authority, commanding respect and admiration, was both empowering and enticing. Surena, her long hair flowing as she demonstrated a complex maneuver, made his heart race.
Taking a moment to himself, Lyan decided to flirt with each of the Valkyries. He knew their bond was strong, but he wanted to remind them of his affection and appreciation for their hard work.
He approached Surena first, catching her during a break. "You’re amazing out there," he said, his voice low and filled with admiration. "No wonder the recruits look up to you."
Surena smiled, a faint blush coloring her cheeks. "Thanks, Lyan. I’m just doing my best to ensure they’re ready."
Lyan stepped closer, his hand gently brushing a strand of hair from her face. "Your best is extraordinary. You inspire me every day."
Surena’s eyes softened, and she leaned into his touch. "You always know what to say," she murmured, her voice tinged with affection. "Careful, or I might get used to this flattery."
"Maybe you should," Lyan teased, his fingers lightly tracing her jawline.
Next, Lyan sought out Emilia, who was leading a group in archery practice. He watched as she effortlessly hit target after target, her fiery crimson hair catching the sunlight. When she noticed him, a playful smile tugged at her lips.
"Impressed?" Emilia called out, her voice teasing.
"Very," Lyan replied, walking over to her. "You make it look so easy."
Emilia shrugged, handing him a bow. "Care to give it a try?"
Lyan took the bow, his fingers brushing against hers. "Only if you promise to help me aim."
She laughed, positioning herself behind him and guiding his hands. Her breath was warm against his neck and her bounty chest pressing towards him closely, sending shivers down his spine. "Just focus," she whispered, her voice husky. "And remember, it’s all about control."
With her guidance, Lyan released the arrow, hitting the target just off-center. Emilia’s laughter was music to his ears. "Wow, I guess you won’t even need my help," she said, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
Lyan turned to face her, his expression serious but his eyes filled with warmth. "It’s all because of your touch,"
Emilia’s smile softened, and she leaned in to kiss him lightly on the cheek. "Always the charmer."
Finally, Lyan approached Alicia, who was overseeing the hand-to-hand combat training. Her platinum blonde hair and small stature made her look almost delicate, but her cold, stoic demeanor and sharp commands left no doubt about her authority.
Lyan watched as she corrected a recruit’s stance, her movements precise and deliberate. When she noticed him, her expression softened slightly. "Lyan," she greeted, her voice calm and controlled.
"Alicia," Lyan replied, stepping closer. "Your leadership is exceptional. The recruits are lucky to have you."
Alicia’s eyes met his, and a rare smile touched her lips. "Thank you. It’s important they learn discipline and skill."
Lyan nodded, his gaze lingering on her. "And you’re the perfect teacher. Your dedication is inspiring."
Alicia’s smile widened slightly, and she reached out to touch his hand. "Your support means everything to me, Lyan."
The day continued with Lyan watching the training and occasionally stepping in to offer encouragement and advice. The Valkyries led the recruits through various exercises, ensuring they were prepared for any situation. Lyan’s admiration for his companions grew with each passing hour, their strength and resilience shining through in every action.
During a break in the training, Lyan found a moment to speak with Wilhelmina. "How are the recruits coming along?" he asked, his voice filled with genuine curiosity.
Wilhelmina smiled, her eyes warm. "They’re progressing well. The Valkyries are excellent teachers, and the recruits are eager to learn. It’s a good start."
Lyan nodded, his gaze sweeping over the training grounds. "That’s great to hear,"
Wilhelmina placed a hand on his arm, her touch gentle. "And your leadership, Lyan. You’ve brought us all together and given us a purpose."
It’s the first time Wilhelmina initiated a move, which Lyan responded positively. "I couldn’t have done it without all of you. I greatly appreciate the help."
As the day drew to a close, Lyan gathered everyone for a final meeting. The recruits, though tired, were filled with a sense of accomplishment. The Valkyries stood proudly, their presence commanding respect.
"We’ve made great progress today," Lyan began, his voice carrying across the training grounds. "But this is just the beginning. We have a long journey ahead of us, and we need to continue working together, supporting each other, and striving for excellence."
The recruits nodded, their expressions determined. The Valkyries exchanged knowing glances, their bond with Lyan and each other stronger than ever.
Lyan continued, "Tomorrow, we’ll start implementing our plans for recruitment and governance. We need to ensure that Grafen is not only well-protected but also well-governed. We need the right people in the right positions to help us achieve our goals."
He looked around, meeting the eyes of each recruit and Valkyrie. "Remember, we’re building something great here. A place where we can all thrive, where our children can grow up safely, and where our hard work will be rewarded. Let’s make Grafen the best it can be."
The gathering broke into applause, the sound filling the air with hope and determination. As they dispersed, Lyan felt a deep sense of satisfaction and anticipation for the future. The road ahead was challenging, but with his companions by his side, he knew they could achieve anything.
Later that evening, as the sun set over Grafen, Lyan took a moment to himself. He stood on the castle’s balcony, looking out over the town. The lights of the homes below twinkled like stars, a symbol of the life and energy that was returning to Grafen.
Lyan’s thoughts turned to the tasks ahead. They had a solid plan in place, but the execution would be critical. He needed to ensure that the new recruits were well-trained and that the domestic officials they recruited were capable and dedicated. It was a daunting task, but one he was ready to face.
But sure, he has come a long way.
Who would ever thought he would be governing a territory in this world?
As he stood there, lost in thought, he felt a presence behind him. Turning, he saw Surena approaching, her expression soft and affectionate.
"You looked deep in thought," she said, joining him at the railing.
Lyan smiled, his heart swelling with warmth. "Just thinking about everything we need to do. It’s a lot to take in."
Surena nodded, her hand finding his. "It is, but we have each other. And with your leadership, we’ll succeed."
Lyan squeezed her hand, feeling the strength and support in her touch. "Thank you, Surena. Your help means a lot."
Surena leaned in, her lips brushing against his. "Always."
