Chapter 64: Doubt of the Queen
Chapter 64: Doubt of the Queen
Dyona’s P.O.V -
Right when Valtar met with the Shadow demon face to face. The Fae queen imperceptibly became tense as she watched everything from the start. Especially the tactic the human used previously to send his minions flying through the sky right in the middle of the Shadow Snake, Shadow Gorilla, and the Shadow Tiger.
Something which the queen was greatly shocked by? How could the barely human 18-year-old human boy think of such a brilliant tactic? In many years for the first time, she was utterly thrilled by the ways of this human. She couldn’t help but exclaim in thrill, "What a terrifying battle strategist. He fought in the optimal way that assured his victory while taking in every small detail of his enemy and terrain, but making sure that he and his troops suffered the least amount loss."
To say the more she watched the human the more she became infatuated with him was an understatement and when she finally saw him come face to face with the shadow demon, she clenched her fists in frustration.
How could she not become nervous, while the shadow stealer could not perform the shadow possession on the Fae Folks specifically for their innate racial superiority in all types of mind-based attacks or defense. But it could indeed mimic even the queen herself to a scary level.
Which is the sole reason the queen was always apprehensive against this demon. Of course despite its cheat-like ability to mimic anything as long as it was on the same level. The shadow stealer or Shadow demon which it likes to call itself, the thing is quite dumb. Because at the end of the day, it just is an evolved beast. It could not compare when it comes to intelligence with insidious Fae folks who live and breathe through their ability to manipulate and scheme against others.
For that main reason, the queen always could defeat it even though they never clashed. It was a piece of information that was left behind by the previous Fae queens who had the chance to face the previous shadow demons.
However, as time passed she became more and more perplexed by the turn of events. Eventually, something happened which shocked the queen to her core.
When the Shadow demon stepped onto the human’s shadow, the queen had a visible frown on her face, she did not want Valtar to die, absolutely not. He was too important. The problem is, if the demon can enter a being’s shadow, it could be said that it had already succeeded in the possession by more than 70%.
Because if a being had enough mental defenses, the demon would not be able to enter their heart realm in the first place. She smashed the handle of her chair in frustration and lingering fear, "Damn it!! Damn it!! Considering how I placed all the cards everywhere and how things played out, his mental wall was supposed to be strong enough to block the demon’s entrance to his heart. Then why was that damn thing able to enter?"
However, it was the event that happened afterward that made her scalp tingle in fear. The Sinister shadow demon quaked in fear as if it had seen the most terrifying thing in existence. Its eyes held unconcealable fear, for a moment the Queen thought, "Eh? Could it be? Father had intervened?"
She then looked more intently at the demon’s eyes, and could not help but shake her head No, the amount of fear in the demon I could feel was far far greater. what’s going on? How could there be an existence more terrifying than our father within this forest?
And the demon’s fear was clearly directed at none but the human himself. A very bad feeling washed over her as she lost interest in the events that followed. She was looking at the screen like illusion that was showing the events in real time but she was not paying attention to any of that anymore.
Moments passed in silence, but the queen’s mind remained blank for the most part. Not until Valtar was done absorbing all the shadows within shadow grounds and came down from the mountain did the queen come to her senses. She let out an extremely heavy sigh as if she was holding her breath all this time and forgot to breathe.
She stated in a serious tone, "Perhaps that is also one of the reasons behind Father is so intent on having the human succeed."
Then she shook her head, "Whatever, I already did what Father had requested, I only need to enjoy myself now however I want. Regardless of what Father needs from you, you’re bound to die here either way."
She added this time in a slightly murderous tone, "I just hope you can give me a good challenge, my dear Valtar."
Moments after Valtar sat on top of the Shadow Snake and they were advancing towards the Fae Folks area. Valtar was deep in thought but he was thinking of something else that the readers would not expect from him at this moment.
He finally said his thoughts aloud, "Considering the clothes of Hansel I am wearing now, I look something pretty much close to the Ninjas. There’s also the fact that I’m traveling on top of a Large ass Snake?"
He added with a frown, "If I had long hair now, wouldn’t I look the same as Orochimaru?"
Hearing his words even the Snake almost stumbled and let its master fall head-on into the ground. Valtar became even more annoyed and shouted,
"The hell you son of a bitch? Drive properly damn it, no I mean......."
"Crawl properly." said Valtar after finding the right word.
The Shadow Snake, ".............."
The system, [...........]
Author, {............}
Valtar then coughed slightly in embarrassment. Then kicked the snake slightly. The Shadow snake did not dare disobey its master even though its master had a few screws loose or maybe most of the screws loose.
Valtar’s expression slightly became serious. Of course, he was simply messing around. Even someone with a heart of evil felt loneliness after all. He kind of missed his bastard friends, if he didn’t lie!
His heart felt somewhat heavy.
He closed his eyes and let out a deep sigh, there was no room for him to feel emotional. There was no room to be weak. The only thing that could survive this harrowing forest is inhumane brutality to oneself and everything else. Nothing more, nothing less.
So, this time he focused his mind on thinking what he could do, maybe form some kind of plan though there was barely any hope for that. But he did not give up and simply immersed himself fully in his own thoughts.
Valtar decided to stop at a middle point, he thought that it would actually be better to continue after the sunrise. It was midnight at that time, only 3-4 hours away from sunrise. He went for a small sleep considering this battle would likely be the hardest one without a doubt. After sunrise, the system woke him up as instructed. He woke up and splashed some water onto his face to feel fresh. Then they continued on their journey.
After 10 to 20 minutes of advancing at full speed, they eventually reached the border between the two areas, yet strangely there was no trace of a single Fae at that place. He almost expected to get bombarded with attacks the moment he reached that place.
For that very reason, he internally frowned even more. While outwardly keeping a cold and indifferent expression. Emotions can also be used as a tool against your enemy, what he did to Hansel was the prime example in itself. It would be too stupid if he let his own enemies do the same thing to him. Especially the Fae folks who are innately manipulative in nature.
While he could indeed see that the other side had lush green trees and extremely beautiful scenery, who knew if the whole thing was just an illusion? This sense of incongruity becomes even stronger when one sees the sheer difference between the two sides of the forest. Compared to that side which looked like a heavenly forest, the shadow grounds would be a dead and dry land if compared.
He ordered one of the 2nd stage ghostbounds to enter that area. He was so cautious that he did not even dare to control that body himself. What if they did something to trap his consciousness on that weak body itself, or attacked the body immediately? Wouldn’t that be a really idiotic way to die?
The ghostbound slowly walked forward, by Valtar’s careful instructions it first only put its hand into the other area, Valtar’s indifferent eyes narrowed. The part of it that entered the other side of the border could not be seen from this side anymore. ’As expected it was a fucking illusion.’ Valtar stated internally.
Even so, Valtar commanded it to go fully inside and observe everything. The ghostbound fully entered the other side and he waited patiently. After 2 minutes of anxious waiting which almost felt like an eternity for Valtar, the ghostbound eventually came back to this side.
But then something else walked into this area which made all of the ghostbounds on this side to jump back a few steps involuntarily, including Valtar himself. Of course, he did not actually feel any sense of danger which made him jump back, rather it was the opposite. It’s precisely because he did not feel anyone else coming from that side which caught him off guard, as such making him jump back in caution.
