Chapter 465: Chapter 444: A Minor Accident

Late at night, even the airport of a large metropolis like Secret Phoenix City was devoid of a surging crowd.

In the waiting hall, most seats were empty, with a concentration of people near the boarding gate, and barely a dozen scattered across the rest of the seating area. There were quite a number of waiting passengers, but compared with the vast space, it still appeared somewhat desolate.

Tang Qi glanced at his boarding pass, which displayed: Great Seagull, economy seat, row six seat A.

“A window seat, not bad at all.”

An experienced traveler would choose such a seat, affording an opportunity to admire the beauty of the sky during the flight.

This “common knowledge” of someone who knows how to enjoy life, came from Lei.

Although she had misunderstood Tang Qi’s request by not booking a first-class cabin for Mr. Principal.

However, Tang Qi didn’t mind at all, as long as it wasn’t an Extraordinary class aircraft, the seat’s location was unimportant.

If it weren’t for the fact that the pilot the Ancient Castle Bureau had helped him look for had not yet taken up the position, Tang Qi would have even considered the “Queen Serano” for this long journey.

Carrying a suitcase that was the exterior of Gluttony, Tang Qi randomly picked a seat to sit down.

There was still over an hour before the departure time.

Tang Qi didn’t engage in meditation and cultivation, but rather soaked in the atmosphere similar to his previous life.

He used to be an ordinary office worker who often went on business trips. At late hours, he would, alone or with colleagues, carry a computer and documents, waiting for planes or trains, moving between cities.

Now, without the addictive electronic devices, he only had the unreliable Gluttony for company.

“Fortunately, the Mysterious Side is more interesting.”

Tang Qi reined in his wandering thoughts, a smile curving on his lips.

In his previous life, he had no major regrets. His parents died early, and he devoted himself to work, maintaining a bachelor’s status. Coming to this vast world, aside from the intense pain on the first day of arrival, his subsequent experiences were pretty colorful.

If given the chance to return to his previous life now, Tang Qi wouldn’t be able to predict what choice he would make.

Suppressing his wandering thoughts, Tang Qi refocused his attention, scanning through the waiting passengers.

People who were similar to those from his previous life, but completely different in the details.

Stylishly dressed young men and women, elderly couples from rural areas, well-dressed middle-aged people reading the newspaper, or an excited family of three heading for a vacation trip… It felt like watching an old movie, especially the whispers and loud laughter made Tang Qi feel all the more real.

This was another world, one that concealed Extraordinary and Mysterious elements.

As Tang Qi observed with great interest, an announcement came from somewhere above his head.

“Great Seagull is now boarding, please passengers make your way to the entrance…”

Despite the occasional buzz of static, the lady’s voice making the announcement compensated for it.

Tang Qi followed the crowd, got up, verified his ticket, and entered the cabin.

He quickly found his seat, indeed a window one, an oval-shaped glass pane allowing Tang Qi to view the outside scenery.

Perhaps because it was late at night, the boarding passengers were all trying to keep quiet.

Soon, the plane took off smoothly and entered the clouds.

This was a ten-hour journey headed to Sweet Water City, with a stopover in another city for refueling along the way.

Over a short distance, Tang Qi could use “Fog Body” or ride a Night Beast without falling behind the airplane’s speed.

But over a longer journey, mechanical power proved more convenient.

Of course, if Tang Qi were willing to use “Diana’s Corpse,” the speed would be terrifying. But he was not facing any life-or-death crisis, and using a Demigod-level Artifact to travel would be overkill by any measure.

Tang Qi planned to spend the ten hours in meditation.

But just a few dozen minutes in, a chilling scream echoed through the cabin.

As he was brought out of his Meditation Method, Tang Qi instantly sensed the panic of the flight crew and the awakened passengers, all turning their gaze to the aisle, where a middle-aged couple with three children sat, one of them, a small boy with black curly hair, lay unconscious, moaning in pain.

Being held by a middle-aged woman, presumably the mother, the man beside her was sweating profusely, seeking help from the flight attendants.

Soon there was an announcement in the cabin, calling for a doctor or a related Professional.

Statistically, within a plane full of passengers, there might occasionally be a doctor amongst them.

Regretfully, not this time.

“Even if there were, I’m afraid they would not be able to help,” Tang Qi remarked after a quick glance.

He slowly stood, making his way towards the small boy, a faint ghost light shimmering in his eyes.

[Extraordinary Creature: resentful spirit.]

[State: Possession in progress.]

[Information Fragment: An evil biological entity born from the Return of the Spiritual Tide, a ghost filled with hatred, currently fighting with the small boy over control of the body, intending to massacre everyone on the plane upon successful possession.]

Simple and yet vicious information.

Tang Qi could almost imagine, if it weren’t for his presence on this flight.

The little boy possessed by the evil spirit would surely kill everyone on the plane, including the pilot.

By then, the plane would either crash or, if it were lucky enough to land safely, the boy would go on a killing spree before eventually being apprehended by Sweet Water City’s Extraordinary Organization; first contained, then entered into the “execution” procedure.

The contact with the World Tree Foundation made Tang Qi realize that for an extraordinary existence, whether living or dead, whether to deal with it immediately depends on its utility.

Like that “YDF-099,” a truck that sold human flesh ice cream, because of its attraction to another Contained Object “YDF-066,” it wasn’t destroyed immediately but was queued up.

Tang Qi warned Shi Yan, but doubted whether the Foundation would heed the advice.

The boy possessed by the resentful spirit obviously didn’t fall into the useful category, so there was a high probability he would be destroyed immediately after his capture.

To make the journey quieter and to pre-emptively stop a tragedy from happening.

Tang Qi went over to the couple and pointed at the boy, saying: “I’m a doctor, please hand him over to me!”

As he spoke, the Illusion Spell was cast.

Not just the couple, but everyone else, too, fell into the illusion.

In everyone’s eyes, Tang Qi was a masterful doctor, who took the boy and quickly woke him up.

The reality, however, was:

“Fragile resentful spirit, better than nothing.”

Speaking casually, the Melting Furnace Power instantly entered the boy’s body, and forcibly ripped out the evil ghost that was trying to take control of the body.

“Huu huu~”

A strange, chilly current suddenly surged through the cabin.

In the ghost light, a contorted soul emerged.

It was a middle-aged man in a nightgown, covered in bloodstains, with a ferocious expression and hysterical madness in his eyes. His mouth was blown open, and the opposite scene was faintly visible.

More Information Fragments floated up in Tang Qi’s eyes.

“A cowardly, mad middle-aged man who, unable to resolve debts from alcoholism and gambling, shot his wife and children and then turned the gun on himself…”

“Even if the Spiritual Tide makes the site of that tragedy destined to produce a resentful spirit, it should have been his murdered wife or child. You coward, what right do you have to harbor resentment?”

The ghost ripped from the boy originally sought to use the crowd’s fear.

But upon opening its eyes, it found the entire cabin’s passengers ignored it.

As if they didn’t feel the cold wind, or hear its terrifying roar.

They all just looked nervously at the floor, as if something there was exerting a powerful attraction.

At this moment, Tang Qi’s voice, laden with incomprehension and scorn, drilled into its ears.

The resentful spirit immediately roared angrily at Tang Qi, then instantaneously felt intense pain. It looked down and saw, to its shock, that its incorporeal body, which could pass through solids, was somehow bound by a thin strand of golden Light Flames.

Under Tang Qi’s deliberate control, the slowly burning Light Flames inflicted more excruciating Pain than even its suicide.

It immediately began to wail.

From cursing to begging for mercy, it lasted less than a few seconds.

Without sparing it another glance, Tang Qi willed the flames to burst forth, instantly incinerating the resentful spirit into golden light points, absorbed by the Melter.

Just as he had said, a feeble resentful spirit was not even enough to get stuck in the Melter’s teeth.

Tang Qi exhaled softly, dispelling the Illusion Spell.

What everyone saw was the boy, seemingly rescued and awakened.

After returning the boy to the middle-aged couple, Tang Qi casually asked: “When did he start showing symptoms?”

The joyously relieved couple thought for a moment, then the husband quickly replied: “Yesterday, ever since he and a few friends went exploring at Number 30 Medley Street, he’s been like this.”

“That’s right, 30 Medley Street is a Ghost House. I didn’t believe in those stories before, and since we were about to return to Sweet Water City, I didn’t stop them. My child, has he been frightened by something? Are the other kids also…?”

Hearing the answer, a look of realization appeared on Tang Qi’s face.

Even as the return of the Spiritual Tide grew more intense, the immense entities of the Church and the official bodies were still maintaining order. Any bad signs would be quickly extinguished. Aside from high-risk groups, it remained difficult for ordinary people to come into contact with the Mysterious Side.

Unless they actively participated in some death-courting activities.

This boy and his friends were a typical example.

“He’s fine now, and so will the other children be.”

Tang Qi’s words put the couple at ease.

The process of possession by a resentful spirit involved making a choice; since they had all visited the Ghost House together, and the boy had been selected, it meant the others were safe for the time being.

Before returning to his seat, Tang Qi added to the couple, “Remember to assign him extra homework when you get back; it will help his recovery.”

Under the effect of the Illusion Spell, the middle-aged couple was exceedingly compliant with Tang Qi’s advice.

Indulging in the perverse pleasure of having successfully disciplined the naughty child, Tang Qi returned to his seat.

For the subsequent hours, no other “minor incidents” occurred.
