Chapter 417: Chapter 401 Selma’s Banquet
Secret Phoenix City, an arterial road in the suburbs stretching into the distance, flanked by towering and complex mountainous terrain.
The deafening music, accompanying the approach of two convertibles, one red and one yellow, blasted through the air—their speeds were frightening, yet the slightly leading red sports car came to a screeching halt at a crossroads.
The car door opened, and a figure stepped out.
“Handsome boy, are you really not coming with us to the Fire Dance Festival? It’s a lot of fun, you know. If you agree, we can all be yours.”
The provocative woman driving extended the invitation to Tang Qi. The other girls, seated in various positions in both convertibles, cooperated by casting seductive glances.
They all had a playful nature, and the high school student they picked up on the road radiated a very charming temperament, as if he were a youth stepped right out of an unreal novel or painting. If they could attend the lively festival together, it would surely be a memorable experience.
Unfortunately, what they saw was Tang Qi’s gentle smile followed, soon after, by a tactful refusal.
“I hope you have fun and stay safe.”
“Then, goodbye.”
…
In the lush and dense forest, Tang Qi held the invitation letter in his hand and followed the simple hand-drawn map on it to move forward.
Clearly, Selma’s new home was so remote that even the Void Gate Tang Qi had grown fond of couldn’t reach.
Those instant portals relied on the magic devices left by the Witches, and where such portals existed, so did the reach of Merada Special Education School.
Unfortunately, one had to be a leader or possess a Leader Token to open the portals, which was one of the reasons Professor Eva couldn’t have taken the students to escape originally.
As Tang Qi looked for the way, he recalled the scene he had witnessed the night before.
Noah and the other seventeen students, having received evaluations and recommendations from Tang Qi, Professor Eva, Jason, and Rafael, were all caught up in an excited state.
Compared to other wild, even faction-holding, Transcendents.
The students’ first Extraordinary Practical Combat experience was off to a good start.
And the four of Tang Qi also derived joy and a sense of achievement from it. When leaving the school, Jason, the Second Generation of Demon, was rubbing his hands in eagerness, brimming with enthusiasm to prepare for the second Extraordinary Practical Combat class, proclaiming a challenge to Tang Qi.
Apart from evaluation suggestions, Tang Qi also planned to give a little bounty to Noah and others.
About half an hour later, just after the Sun had set, Tang Qi saw a cluster of treehouse constructions, made up of a main house and seven or eight additional treehouses.
They lay deep in the forest, next to a stream, and their builders must have had truly remarkable cleverness—the main house nearly perfectly integrated between two huge ancient trees without any trace of being newly built, endearing at first sight.
The other accessory treehouses, some under the canopy, some hollowing out a towering ancient tree, and some formed from fallen trees merging together.
At this early night, the flowers blooming on the vines clinging to each treehouse lit up with a luminous blue light, as if fireflies lingered above.
A real, magical oil painting-like scene.
“Are all Transcendents of noble birth this opulent?”
“Not bad, my Dragon Heart Castle isn’t too shabby either.”
Tang Qi silently sighed in his heart—if it weren’t for owning Dragon Heart Castle, he would indeed feel somewhat unable to look straight at the words “shabby house” written on Selma’s invitation.
Out of politeness, Tang Qi didn’t use his abilities but walked over step by step.
On the way, the knotted, protruding tree roots retracted into the ground as Tang Qi passed by. Was it because they sensed his Extraordinary Aura? Had an ordinary person accidentally come here, they would find it impossible to enter the treehouse area and would likely leave the forest dizzied by some prohibition magic.
“Thump, thump,”
Tang Qi climbed the spiral staircase and knocked on the rustic and exquisite round portal.
Before the third knock sounded, the door flung open.
“Mr. Principal, welcome!”
Selma opened the door and curtsied to Tang Qi.
As polite as the first time they communicated.
However, for some reason, Tang Qi saw a hint of panic on Selma’s face.
“Please come in quickly, I’ve just finished preparing the last dish, a recipe personally taught to me by my mother—it’s absolutely delicious.”
“Whoosh,”
Tang Qi followed Selma inside, and instantly, various tantalizing aromas spread towards his nose.
The cozy and spacious room was now filled with a variety of fine dishes and drinks.
And the most eye-catching was none other than a huge, golden-roasted pig’s head on the long table at the center.
Due to his experience at Malfoy Mansion, a sensation of Abnormality immediately sprang up in Tang Qi’s heart.
Suddenly, a ghost light flickered in his eyes.
“Extraordinary Creatures: Aius Monster, a very low-intelligence Extraordinary creature. It can grow to a very large size, has the ability of Invisibility and burrowing underground, and also possesses extremely delicious meat…”
The Information Fragment that exploded in Tang Qi’s mind eased his concerns.
Perhaps because he had looked at the pig’s head a little longer, Selma beside him thought he was curious and took the initiative to explain:
“This is the Aius Monster, the theme of tonight’s banquet revolves around it.”
“With the help of several local friends, I was able to capture it and send its soul away with their soul-putting technique.”
“The main dish tonight is roasted wild boar meat. The recipe comes from my mother’s family, a famous dish in the Valyag region in the northeast of the Alliance. I have added some extraordinary plants to it, not only to enhance the flavor, but to also provide the consumer with some basic increase in strength or speed.”
As Selma introduced, Tang Qi looked past the pig’s head. Judging from the aroma, it must be a whole pig, smeared with a mixture of honey, salt, and a lot of spices, carefully roasted and then cut into large chunks, stacked on a 1.5 * 1 square copper silver-plated large dining plate.
The color and aroma made it hard to resist.
Selma’s voice continued, making Tang Qi look elsewhere.
“In addition to the Alliance flavors, I’ve also prepared some dishes from the Eternal Heaven Dynasty. Although they don’t look very appealing, I assure you that the taste will not disappoint you.”
Following the introduction, Tang Qi saw in his eyes a huge cold platter arrayed with braised pig heart, braised pig liver, braised pig lung, braised pig kidneys, sliced blood sausages, a whole pot of pepper pig offal soup, and what looked like dark cuisine: fatty pork intestines and blocks of pig’s blood.
At this point, Tang Qi almost couldn’t hold back his desire to make sarcastic comments.
“Are you sure it’s the taste of the Eternal Heaven Dynasty and not your own taste? Doesn’t the Liang Family ancestral land have chefs from other cuisines? Or do you just like the strong flavors?”
Suppressing his sarcasm, Tang Qi glanced at the significantly more normal array of beverages: red bean and tapioca cup, honey black tea, golden wine, along with various fruit platters.
“A lavish banquet!”
Tang Qi praised with a turn of his head and indeed saw the proud yet bashful look subtly shown by Selma.
At the same time, Tang Qi also saw an extraordinary plant placed on a table next to Selma.
It was a large Venus flytrap, a hybrid of green and red, with a wide-open maw facing Tang Qi, its inner pattern vaguely forming a blurred, somewhat arrogant human face.
As a strong ghost light was about to emerge.
Suddenly, a rough voice rang out.
“What are you gawking at? Haven’t you seen such a good-looking pitcher plant before?”
“You… beast!”
Suddenly scolded, Tang Qi was slightly startled.
In the past second, Tang Qi had watched the blurred human face raise its eyebrows high and pucker its big mouth as if it held Tang Qi’s behavior in great disdain.
While he was somewhat baffled, Selma on the side was clearly panicking and, in her haste, grabbed a piece of roasted wild boar meat, attempting to stuff it into the mouth of the pitcher plant.
But before she could, the pitcher plant angrily continued, “Beast, look at Selma’s appearance, that face, that height, how could you bear to lay your hands on her, you know that’s illegal, right?”
“Huh?”
Tang Qi, caught between laughter and tears, suddenly had a realization, and a special image formed in the bottom of his eyes.
[Extraordinary Creature: Big Mouth Pitcher Plant.]
[State: Normal.]
[Information Fragment One: One of Selma’s plant puppets, an extraordinary creature with high intelligence. Its mouth houses a small space that can contain dead or alive objects and keep them in a constant state for a short period.]
[Information Fragment Two: The inner walls of its mouth are extremely hard and have some magical patterns, to a degree comparable to a Magic Cauldron, which can be used to mix Secret Medicines or for cooking. It does not have combat capabilities.]
“A high-intelligence, chatty plant puppet!”
Having understood, Tang Qi smiled faintly, feeling a bit mischievous, and immediately clarified:
“Are you sure I’m the one breaking the law? To my knowledge, Selma is nineteen, older than me. I’m actually underage.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Tang Qi saw the Big Mouth Pitcher Plant freeze in place.
After a second of stupor, its mouth slowly turned, aiming at Selma.
“Don’t say it!”
Selma seemed to anticipate something and almost shrieked, as she hurriedly shoved the roasted wild boar meat into its mouth.
Sadly, it was a bit too late.
Before Tang Qi’s eyes, the face inside the Pitcher Plant’s mouth raised its eyebrows even higher, completely in a frivolous and sneering manner.
“Old bull eating tender grass, huh, Little Selma? Well done, Old Liang must be very pleased… mmm mmm mmm.”
“…”
Tang Qi certainly didn’t expect the fire to come back onto him.
Fortunately, as both were not truly underage, before the awkwardness could emerge, Selma quickly changed the topic.
“Right, where are the kids?”
“They’ll be here soon!”
Tang Qi immediately smiled in response.
Then he gestured for Selma to follow him out of the treehouse to stand on a terrace. Tang Qi glanced at the misty purple moon already suspended in the sky, silently feeling the magical boundary extended from Merada Special Education School, and with a casual swipe of his palm towards the distant void.
“Whooosh”
Under the moonlight, a Void Gate opened, and from within the surging ghost light, a vast, luxurious Magic Flying Carpet shot out from the other side of the gate. It hung motionless in the sky for a moment before heading towards the area where Tang Qi and Selma stood.
