Chapter 408: Chapter 392 Extraordinary Practical Combat Class
On the soft couch, Tang Qi slowly closed the thick internal wanted dossier of the Investigation Bureau.
The drinks and snacks on the table in front of him were all gone, and glancing outside the window, he saw the setting Sun’s afterglow casting its light on the surface of Green Dragon Ridge Lake. The scenery was so beautiful that it quickly dispelled the gloom in Tang Qi’s heart born from reading too many tragic cases.
Having spent half the night, plus an entire day, Tang Qi had finished reading the entire wanted dossier.
Not only those that may involve Secret Phoenix City, but Tang Qi also skimmed through the rest.
He could confirm that his knowledge of Mysticism had once again grown.
The price was the rare emergence of a sense of weariness.
Tang Qi didn’t rest but instead massaged his temples and stood up to enter the Meditation Room, swiftly entering a Meditation State; half an hour later, he had recovered his depleted spirit.
As he stepped out, a Void Gate opened in front of him.
“It’s about time, let’s start!”
As Tang Qi’s voice sounded, he was already standing by Professor Eva’s side.
At the same time, on the other side, another gate opened and the figures of Jason and Rafael also emerged.
The four of them were at the highest point of Dragon Heart Castle.
Opposite the White Lighthouse stood a towering grey-brick lighthouse, high enough to overlook the entire school.
The top floor was arranged like a study room, but instead of a table and chairs at the center, there was a huge mirror.
At this moment, Professor Eva was standing in front of the mirror, her hands wrapped in luminescence, chanting Spells, accompanied by those lights trickling onto the mirror’s surface like a flowing stream.
The mirror, originally covered with dust and dim, suddenly became translucent.
Inside, ghostly light floated about.
Gradually, an ongoing scene was revealed.
It was clear that inside… was a student dormitory.
However, it was not the dormitory where most students lived, but a separate one.
Professor Eva controlled the movement of the mirror’s viewpoint, and the special students within the dormitory appeared one by one.
“Ah, it’s starting!”
With a cry of surprise, a girl clutching a piece of Parchment rushed out of her room.
Following that, exclamations sounded from other rooms as well.
One after another, familiar figures appeared, all pinching Parchment in their hands, with beautiful, quaint fonts slowly emerging, notifying each of them to head to the classroom at the innermost part of the rotating corridor in Dragon Heart Castle Upper District.
Personally taught by Mr. Principal, the first Extraordinary Practical Combat Class was to officially begin at seven o’clock.
Precautionary note: Wear an extra layer of clothing! Do not eat dinner!
Although the dozen or so students didn’t understand these notes—why weren’t they allowed to eat dinner before class? And what was the extra layer of clothing for?
However, compared to the course itself, these were just minor details.
Now, one after the other, the students dressed neatly, stepping out of their rooms with excitement, headed to the classroom.
They were indeed Shay, Nidya, and others.
Each of them was very excited, which was easy to understand. Previously they were isolated as Level 5 Danger Sources, and now, after Tang Qi had removed the danger, they had been living the life they had dreamt of these past days. The school was in a fairytale-like castle, their classmates were children with Extraordinary Powers like them, and the teachers were strong Transcendents, not to mention the incredibly powerful Mr. Principal.
A few days were enough for them to get to know the school, as well as Tang Qi.
Besides them, the older students were also brimming with excitement.
Extraordinary Practical Combat!
Just the sound of this course filled them with excitement.
Especially for the children.
Being able to wield their Extraordinary Power and become the strong characters depicted in novels and movies held great appeal to them.
Not to mention, the course was taught by Mr. Principal.
At the current Witch School, if you asked almost half of the students who their idol was, they would likely choose Tang Qi.
And they had made clear Tang Qi’s combat achievements as well as his many titles.
Of course, their favorite topic was Mr. Principal’s gossip.
Some time ago, when Professor Eva announced that a new course was in planning and that the instructor would be Tang Qi, all the students were abuzz with excitement. If it were not for the prohibition on enrollment, Eva would probably be submerged by enrollment forms by now.
Now, the official list had been released.
Shay and the other seventeen entered the classroom at the innermost part of the rotating corridor, amid envious glances from the other students.
“Click, click—BANG!”
“Huh?”
As the eighteen people stepped into the somewhat dimly lit classroom, the door suddenly closed behind them.
The lights turned on, and immediately everyone let out a gasp of surprise.
There was not a soul to be seen in the classroom.
Not only were there no people, even the essentials such as seats, podium, and blackboard were nonexistent.
The vast classroom was left with nothing but the empty oak floor.
Where was Mr. Principal?
This doubt had just formed in the students’ minds.
Then, in the middle of the classroom, a faint ghostly light appeared in the air, and several things began to slowly coalesce.
The students here, selected by Tang Qi, could be considered powerful Transcendents based on their mastery of Extraordinary Power alone, if not for their ages. Unlike those Transcendents who had been through numerous adventures, they lacked experience.
But their basic Perception was very strong.
Therefore, at this moment, almost simultaneously, eighteen gazes fell upon the first item to materialize.
A stack of old newspapers!
Under the curious gazes, the oldest-looking boy with curly hair stepped forward, took down the newspapers, and then distributed one to each person.
They were all old newspapers, but they spanned several years.
At that time, the Spiritual Tide had not returned, and Mysterious Events were not as rampant as they are now, so the newspapers mainly reported normal current events, social commentaries, not very funny jokes, and numerous advertisements.
The newspapers in their hands all reported the same thing in the current events section.
“The Massacre of the Malfoy Family!”
“The Birth of a Haunted House!”
“Haunted House for Sale!”
“The ghost of Jenny Malfoy has killed dozens of people!”
“The Church dispatched several priests to enter the Ghost House, and afterward proclaimed that they had successfully eliminated the Evil Spirit.”
“Ghost House, for sale.”
…
The thrilling headlines made the students’ bodies feel cold.
However, at this time, they all vaguely realized something. Even the youngest Nidya braved on and continued to read.
Soon, through a dozen old newspapers, they pieced together the complete information.
“Eleven years ago, in a satellite town near the outskirts of Secret Phoenix City, a shocking massacre occurred; a group of robbers broke into the Malfoy house and killed everyone inside, including the servants.”
“The master of the house, Old Malfoy, was a decent businessman; he had bought the town’s most luxurious mansion more than twenty years ago, and soon after that, he and his wife had a lovely daughter whom they named Jenny.”
“Jenny Malfoy was a genius, a lovely little girl who at the age of 5 displayed an exceptional talent for the arts. The violin master Pagelas took her as a Disciple, which brought her fame. She often carried with her a violin made by the master luthier Pagini. She also loved keeping pets and was very skilled in horse riding, indeed, her future was bright, and if she had grown up, she would have certainly become the pursued target of Secret Phoenix City’s high society youth. But Misfortune struck her when she was twelve years old, the robbers invaded the villa…”
“Attempting to protect his daughter, Old Malfoy was killed at the door of Jenny’s room, Mrs. Malfoy died in the Prayer room, the butler and other servants were murdered in the servants’ resting area, but Jenny Malfoy’s body was never found.”
“The robbers were caught afterward and were quickly executed.”
“The Malfoy house was very beautiful, even though it was a haunted house, it soon had a second owner; a local coal tycoon moved in with his family. Three days later, the tycoon’s family started dying one after another, and in strange ways, such as being frightened to death by a wall decoration in the middle of the night, or choking to death while having soup.”
“The tycoon’s family claimed they had seen the ghost of Jenny Malfoy, but the town’s residents insisted that this misfortune was due to the tycoon’s many misdeeds when starting his fortune, and it was Fate’s arrangement. After four consecutive deaths, the tycoon’s family moved out, and the Malfoy house became a Ghost House.”
“In the years that followed, the Ghost House was sold several times, but without exception, each owner encountered the death of family members, and another massacre even occurred, finally convincing people that it was the ghost of Jenny Malfoy committing the murders.”
“The frequent deaths, along with the fermentation of the haunted house incident, prompted the townsfolk and the government to start putting pressure on the Church, eventually forcing them to send a bishop-level priest with a few assistants to investigate the Ghost House. The priests spent a whole night in the Ghost House.”
“The next day, the priests emerged pale and utterly exhausted from the Ghost House, claiming to have vanquished the Evil Spirit. Although no ghosts were reported afterwards, the haunted house had completely lost its value for sale and was gradually abandoned.”
The complete narrative of the story now unfolded before their eyes.
The older students were able to maintain their composure, unable to help but contemplate what truly happened inside the mansion. The younger ones, such as Nidya, though initially frightened, soon felt sympathy for “Jenny Malfoy” due to their extraordinary experiences.
As the students were immersed in their emotions, another object rapidly materialized in the air and drifted down.
It was a page of fresh parchment, transcribed from internal documents of the Ancient Castle Bureau.
The students scanned over it and information immediately surfaced.
“The haunting incident at Malfoy Mansion, eleven years ago, was not met with the ghost of Jenny Malfoy by the Church priests, and the dozens of deaths did not leave behind any Resentful Souls. The priests merely encountered something like a ‘Ghost Maze’. To save face, they claimed to have eliminated the Evil Spirit.”
“Just a few days ago, a violent fluctuation of resentful power was detected inside the mansion. Personnel are being organized to investigate…”
“This mission is canceled, it has been taken over by a collaborative organization, Merada Special Education School!”
When the last line of text appeared, the students looked at each other, each seeing a mix of bewilderment, surprise, and… excitement in the other’s eyes.
Almost simultaneously, a ghost light silently emerged beneath their feet, swiftly carving out a circular portal.
