Chapter 395: Chapter 380 Zoe and the Feeder
With the sound of electric currents, a succession of human figures flashed, among them, one was astonishingly Tang Qi’s “acquaintance.”
Accompanied by crackling electric sounds, figures flickered into view, one of whom was strikingly familiar to Tang Qi.
A person dressed in Federation Agent uniform, with black short hair, above average looks, and extremely tall stature—it was none other than the White Witch Zoe, who had once fought side by side with Tang Qi. Or rather, had been extorted by him.
To this day, this Professional Level Expert of the Federation Official still owed Tang Qi a favor.
However, considering the changes to the situation with the Witch Iron Box, that favor might end up being owed indefinitely.
Within the screen, Zoe was obviously a Second Level person in charge, because the next figure to appear was a middle-aged man who immediately froze the frame.
The Demon Hunter, Odys, who was last seen with the White Witch, was notably absent this time.
Tang Qi’s gaze then settled on the middle-aged man on the screen.
Instantly catching his eye was an extremely stern face that seemed to have been serious not just because of the emergent case at hand, but by nature, his expression was as if it had been petrified, utterly devoid of emotion.
“A case of facial paralysis!”
Not only Tang Qi, but Selma and the Transcendent criminals hijacking the train shared the same opinion.
But despite the facial paralysis, he possessed a pair of eyes that seemed capable of piercing through people’s hearts, sharp and tenacious, as if no one could bend his will.
Even though it was only a gaze through a screen, the criminals one by one retreated, not daring to meet his eyes.
Tang Qi believed that if it were a face-to-face confrontation in reality, perhaps the criminals would have already volunteered their hands, surrendering unconditionally.
The only one whose self remained intact under that gaze was the “Feeder” leading them, whose madness and neuroticism exempted him from the influence of such a gaze which, despite lacking Extraordinary Power, had a similar effect.
The young Feeder never put his own skullcap back on, just wearing that disgusting head, grinning with his forked black tongue wandering recklessly, oozing venomous saliva dripping down.
He seemed to be laughing madly, making eye contact with the facially paralyzed middle-aged man.
“Wow, isn’t this Mr. Berenson, the head of the FBI’s freak squad? I never imagined someone as insignificant as me could trouble a big shot like you. It seems my method worked. Who says Mr. Berenson is a cold-hearted freak? To me, you seem so affectionate.”
“Perhaps we are kindred spirits.”
The neurotic young man, perhaps unintentionally, started his speech with signs of stirring up internal conflict within the Federation Official.
Unfortunately, hearing his words, Mr. Berenson didn’t even blink.
“David Crowley, what do you want?”
The somewhat cold, hard voice of Berenson came from the screen.
Apparently, Federation Official must have been aware of the young Feeder’s existence from the start, as they immediately called him by name, David Crowley.
Ordinary robbers, upon hearing the official asking for demands, would have been eager to state them.
But Crowley, still smiling relaxedly, was twirling the skullcap still marked with fresh brain pulp traces in his hands, raising a finger to his lips with a “shush”.
Then, rocking unsteadily, he instantly transformed into a phantom, pulling a nearby passenger over, positioning his ear area in front of the camera, his fierce half-face almost splattering saliva on the screen.
“No, no, no, Mr. Berenson, I know you guys too well, Evil Federation’s lapdogs. Your so-called negotiations are just a way to buy time, just like when I went to see you, arranged a meeting, but was ruthlessly sent back home.”
“This time, it’s different. Keep your eyes wide open. This little thing here is the Parasite I spoke of. You used me as a test subject, but you never expected I could gain these powers, huh? Now all passengers are inhabited by this lovely Little Guy.”
“See this Mother Worm? At my command, it can control all the Little Guys, laying eggs inside these pigs’ heads and then hatching… If your field teams don’t stop now, the next thing you’ll get to see will be a wonderful scene that will greatly whet your appetite.”
The moment Crowley’s words ended, Tang Qi seemed to see an illusion, the pupils of Mr. Berenson on screen contracted slightly.
Soon, within Tang Qi’s sense, a dozen or so auras of Transcendents swiftly approaching the Fruit Bat all came to a halt simultaneously.
Crowley felt it too.
He grinned, with a profound sense of triumph in addition to his madness and neurosis.
“What’s the matter, did I make Mr. Berenson angry? Why cancel the operation? I’m the atrocious criminal who hijacked the train, and it’s even stopped at a state border, completely within your jurisdiction. Come on, arrest me.”
Crowley was waving his hands, in an exaggeratedly fearful display.
The hostages felt a creeping, chilling fear.
He did it on purpose, to hijack the train and then stop in a set area, without the need for further procedures. The driver must have reported the emergency before dying, and such a major case would directly fall into the FBI’s jurisdiction.
Crowley, from the start, intended to negotiate with the most challenging Federation Official.
“A madman!”
“An Extraordinary class madman!”
Tang Qi silently added in his heart.
The situation now seemed somewhat clearer.
That neurotic young man called “David Crowley” used to be a normal person, only later did he believe he had a multitude of parasites inside him. He had also sought a great deal of help initially, even from the FBI’s secretive Extraordinary division.
But without exception, he was treated as a “delusionist” and sent back home.
Here, it was actually somewhat incomprehensible.
Given Crowley’s current condition, it’s not just the FBI who could notice that something was off about him—even a local official would be able to tell.
There’s no way they would simply send him back home.
Unless they really treated him like a test subject and carried out inhumane human experiments.
But if that were the case, Crowley wouldn’t be able to escape and be active like this.
There are many ways to test the abilities of experimental subjects, none of which include the situation at hand.
“The greater likelihood… is that the person who deliberately implanted the Mother Worm in him initially let Crowley have the delusions but didn’t truly plant the Mother Worm until he was desperate for help and driven somewhat mad by the delusions, and then they implanted it.”
“From then on, there would be no need to intervene, for Crowley, caught up in his self-delusions, would take care of everything.”
Tang Qi quickly came to a key realization in his mind.
“So, what does the cultivator of the Mother Worm want?”
A new doubt sprang up in Tang Qi’s heart.
And at this moment, Crowley finally put forth his conditions to the officials, or rather to Berenson.
“Doctor!”
His voice was full of anger, fear, and the madness that comes before a breakdown.
“I need a qualified Extraordinary Doctor. I need him to remove this damned thing from my head. I don’t want this power; it’s too terrible, too painful. Do you understand me, Mr. Berenson, who is like a father… Hahaha!”
Crowley burst into maniacal laughter halfway through his demands.
Due to the emotional stress, everyone could see the Mother Worm inside his head writhing increasingly faster and laying eggs at an even more horrifying pace. Amid the vomiting sound, the number of black maggots on the ground surged.
The torment brought back some lucidity in him.
He was practically sprawled on the screen, and spelled out to Berenson word by word: “Don’t think about fooling me, my instincts are terrible. If you send someone who’s not a doctor, but some kind of assault agent, I’ll catch him and then have your whole team watch as he’s eaten clean.”
“Just like that guy, ugh, how pitiful!”
Right after pointing at the corpse of the pilot as an example, Crowley’s illness flared up again.
But his performance, as always, received no appreciation from Berenson, the leader with an expressionless face, who still observed him with a cold gaze.
Then, he simply said: “Agreed!”
Faced with a madman, the Federation officials seemed to have realized.
It was obviously useless to reason.
They would have to take the blame whether they liked it or not, and Berenson didn’t even mention what to do with the hostages.
This was understandable; if the doctor really managed to successfully remove the Mother Worm.
Without its “Feeder,” the Mother Worm would likely immediately lose all Extraordinary Power and naturally be powerless to detonate those “Parasites”.
And Crowley, who seemed to have gone mad, didn’t seem to realize that without the Mother Worm, he would instantly become an ordinary person. No, he had already lost half his brain; once he went from a Transcendent to a normal person, he might not even be able to maintain life.
As Tang Qi was contemplating, the side door of the first carriage suddenly opened, revealing the figure of an acquaintance.
Zoe!
She was still in her Federation Agent uniform, her face cold and stern, being searched by a female Feeder. Once it was confirmed that she was not a danger, she stood in front of Crowley.
“Wow, Mr. Berenson thinks so highly of me, Crowley, to send such a beautiful agent.”
“Come on, beautiful agent, come catch me.”
Crowley was still performing when, all of a sudden, an ancient Magic Wand appeared in Zoe’s hand, which she pointed at him.
“Hu~”
“Light of Serenity!”
A white glow, as if it could soothe even the most ferocious creature, struck Crowley instantly. He was unharmed and let out a very suggestive moan just as the other Feeders, with their changing expressions, rushed towards him.
“That felt so… good!”
“Is there more? Do it again. You truly are a doctor. Great Mr. Berenson, Crowley loves you.”
Despite his expression showing that the pain tormenting him had indeed eased a bit, his hysteria was clearly incurable.
Crowley’s performance, reminiscent of a masochist’s behavior, made Tang Qi think of Gluttony.
Faced with his Melting Furnace Power, Gluttony showed the same reaction.
Tang Qi turned his gaze, expecting to see Gluttony’s ashamed expression, but was met with a proud and chest-thumping Curios waving two straps.
“As a Feeder, one should be proud to be able to feed the great Lord Gluttony.”
A shameless thought was immediately transmitted into Tang Qi’s mind.
