Chapter 294: Chapter 292 Ragnar Descendant
Above the church, the sky was filled with Beast Shadows, but everyone’s gaze was concentrated on the Fire Dragon Puppet.
“Chi~la”
Amidst the abrupt noises, crisscrossing wounds suddenly appeared across the belly of the fire dragon, the source of the damage coming from within. Each new wound caused the dragon’s body to sink further, until with the final wound, a gaping hole appeared in its belly.
Boom!
Blazing hot magma, as if it were its blood, cascaded down like a waterfall. Amidst it, a bulky shadow with blood and gore “thwacked” against the ground in front of the church, shattering the solid pavement, as an imposing figure slowly emerged from the black and red dust.
This was a Muscle Giant, only slightly smaller than a Heavy Armor Soldier, nearing two meters in height, muscles brimming with explosive power marked with white runic symbols, seemingly immune to the flowing magma due to these faintly glowing symbols on his skin.
He was bare-chested, each of his hands holding a huge axe, and on his head was a triangular helmet.
Faintly visible inside, there was no flesh and blood, only a ghastly white skull, with eyes sockets as if ready to burst with red light flickering within.
What emanated from within was a combative intent that struck fear in anyone who sensed it.
As he stepped out of the dust, his gaze fully locked onto the “Bright Heavy Armor Knight.”
A deep, fractured voice pierced everyone’s ears.
“I don’t have much time; I hope you won’t disappoint me.”
“Bang”
An arrogant statement to the extreme, yet when it came from the Muscle Giant, it seemed only natural. And he had already made his move.
Cloaked in magma, treading on flames, like a “War God” from myth.
A fireball flickered in the eyes of the onlookers, and when they looked again, they saw a pair of huge axes raised high, then slashing down at an unimaginable speed.
No angry shouts, no pretense, just this slash that seemed to cleave the earth itself.
The spectating Transcendents felt as if they were themselves beneath the giant axe, a pervasive battle intent, along with a crushing strength, about to rain down.
“Powerful!”
The same thought arose in everyone’s minds.
Clang!
The collision happened, flame against Holy Light, a standoff followed by an even more explosive light erupting, the two figures entering the deadly close quarters combat at breakneck speed.
Although both attempted to vent their power fully onto each other, the unintentional spillage still dealt massive damage to the buildings in the surrounding area.
It was hard to imagine what a terrifying scene it would be if they were to let go entirely.
In the shadows, the hushed discussions of some Transcendents arose, some recognising where the Muscle Giant who emerged from the fire dragon came from.
Yet Tang Qi didn’t need to listen; powerful ghost light was forming images at the bottom of his eyes.
[Extraordinary Creature: Ragnar Descendant (Elder-level).]
[State: Parasitic.]
[Information Fragment One: A descendant of the Ragnar family, who is also a strong being with nearly a hundred years of life. The originally old and weakened “War God” descendant has been fully awakened by the Spiritual Tide, igniting the Ancestor’s bloodline. His strength is unquestionable.]
[Information Fragment Two: To evade the curse, this Elder Ragnar has used some precious Curios and also borrowed the power of two other Ancestor Descendants of the “Rudolph Family” and the “Vite Family,” parasitizing himself in a fresh body. Yet this only enables him to vent freely for a few minutes.]
[Information Fragment Three: Once the time limit is reached, he will be driven out again, and suffer severe injuries.]
[Information Fragment Four: The symbol of Ragnar is the crossed axes, and a helmeted white skeletal skull with the fire of combat intent burning within.]
…
Tang Qi’s expression grew solemn; the five great families of the Immortal Council.
The known “Anna’s descendant” was restrained by Tang Qi.
But the Ragnar Descendant fighting with the heavy armor soldier was even stronger than Tang Qi in close combat.
Without engagement, Tang Qi was very clear that even the transformed “Chaga Fighting Skill” would not be enough to confront the Ragnar Descendant, as well as the heavy armor soldier.
The melee at the church square had prematurely entered its ending.
“Bang”
The Ragnar Descendant voluntarily took a step back.
His body, letting out “hiss-hiss” steam intensely, with sweat flowing down heavily onto the ground. The red light inside his helmet was gradually dimming, his power rapidly declining, his strength fiercely ebbing.
“The curse is stronger than I thought,” said the skeletal skull.
His tone was as calm as ever, seemingly unaware of the impending defeat.
“It’s about to end!”
In Tang Qi’s eyes, the aura overflowing from the Ragnar Descendant’s body was rapidly weakening. Aside from the power of the curse, there was his own will fading; the white symbols dimming, muscles contracting, chunks of flesh falling off, organs and bones decaying…
Whoosh!
On the square, a figure like a Heroic Spirit appeared, wearing a helmet and wielding dual axes, eyes burning with flames, only reflecting the figure of the heavy armor soldier, as if among all the Transcendents present, only this Bright Heavy Armor Knight deserved his attention.
Then, he roared fiercely, a firelight soaring into the sky.
“For Ragnar’s glory!”
“Boom”
That Heroic Spirit disappeared in an instant, merging into the two massive axes, wrapped in combat intent, magma, and light, slashing towards the heavy armor soldier.
“Light!”
The Heavy Armor Soldier uttered two words coldly as his greatsword swept across the ground, its blade filled with Holy Light, conjuring a storm that surged upward.
Boom!
It exploded—a gigantic light ball of red and white burst in front of everyone’s eyes.
Flames intertwined with Holy Light, sweeping in all directions, then stopped by layers of Barriers, yet the plaza itself couldn’t avoid destruction; tiles, sculptures, and light posts were all flattened.
Once the brightness subsided, only a towering figure remained in the center of the scene.
The Heavy Armor Soldier, with multiple breaches and scorched marks on his armor, still emitted a dimmer yet tenacious and unceasing Holy Light.
In a real sense, the first challenge, initiated by a descendant of the “War God Family” from the Immortal Council, had concluded.
The Ragnar Descendant had lost.
A stern and cool voice emerged from beneath the helmet.
“Unbeatable!”
…
The conclusing Heavy Armor Soldier, grasping the greatsword with both hands, step by step walked out of the huge pit of ruins, standing once again before the church, then addressed the Beast Shadow in the sky, and the darkness on the ground, once more coldly: “Next!”
“Phew~”
Not surprisingly, a quiet atmosphere ensued.
All Transcendents seemed still immersed in the recent battle.
The War God-like figure ultimately fell to the Holy Light.
In front of the church, this unnamed Heavy Armor Soldier stood like a towering mountain, blocking all challengers, including the Immortal Council, Seven Ancestor Descendants, and some Wild Transcendents.
Tang Qi and Sally inside the apartment, watched the entire fight.
Shock was also grounded deep inside both of their hearts.
Sally suddenly felt that the combat she had seen between Jason and the “Host Rabbit” seemed unimpressive now; the scenes she had just witnessed were truly awe-inspiring.
Such battles, she had only seen in fantasy novels, mythological epics, and fantasy movies.
But what just transpired, was a live broadcast.
Whereas Tang Qi, reined in the slight smugness in his heart, reminding himself that the Mysterious Side of the world is filled with powerful beings, and he, Tang Qi, was not the only one with mystical experiences.
While the “siblings” were lost in their thoughts, in front of the church below.
The second challenger had yet to appear.
Whether it was the Beast Shadows in the sky or the writhing darkness on the ground, they seemed to be watching, with no intention of taking action.
The situation seemed to be at a stalemate.
But everyone knew it wouldn’t last long; either a second Challenger would appear, or they would have to disperse at dawn. This unspoken rule helped maintain a “calm” facade officially.
Any Extraordinary Force that broke this facade would provoke the most severe retaliation from the official powers.
Neither the Immortal Council nor the Seven Ancestor Descendants had reached a desperate state, and would temporarily not cross the official boundaries.
And those Wild Transcendents, deterred by a “Judgement List,” were even less likely to provoke the Federation Government, which might be more formidable than the Church.
Tonight’s outcome would be the latter.
As nightfall gradually waned, the fire that had blazed for much of the night was quelled, and the Radiance of the Sun once again enveloped Winston Town.
The Transcendents dispersed along with the night.
The church doors once again thunderously opened, the Heavy Armor Soldier carrying the greatsword, step by step entering deeper into the church, while the priests in black robes silently walked out and began using their Extraordinary powers to clean up the battlefield, restoring the beauty of the plaza and streets.
A potential “Disaster” was thus averted.
This seemed to affirm once again that the most powerful Extraordinary Force within the Federation was the Church of Light, whose foundations ran unfathomably deep.
But Tang Qi knew, as did those in charge within the church and the other Transcendents.
Rules of the strong!
They only work when life and death are not in jeopardy.
The Immortal Council, Seven Ancestor Descendants, and the covert Witch Group refrained from acting because the “Day of Prophecy” had not yet arrived; once the deadline runs out, none of last night’s events can be replicated.
To survive, the Ancestor Descendants would pull out all the stops.
The Heavy Armor Soldier may stand against a Ragnar Descendant weakened by a curse, but should numbers double, the outcome is predictable.
…
As daylight broke, Tang Qi, as usual, sent Sally to the Tree Grandma Bookstore, while he himself went directly to the “Golden Goat Antiques Store.”
He planned to persuade the stubborn locals together with Arthur Wilson; the original plan was to wait until Arthur Wilson had gathered all the “Earl Relics,” then view them all at once.
However, after witnessing last night’s battle, Tang Qi decided to accelerate his approach proactively.
What exactly lay hidden within the church that made the Descendants of the Twelve Ancestors so eager, Tang Qi had yet to learn.
However, as for what kind of person Immortal Count Samuel Winston was?
Tang Qi resolved to fully understand.
