Chapter 351: Chapter 196 After All, A Special Identity_2

Gu Sheng chuckled awkwardly. "Got it, thank you, Master-Wife."

After watching Gu Sheng return to his room, Qin Xue climbed onto the massive stone where Wen Mingyan had planted his sword.

The top of the boulder marked the highest point of War God Peak. Standing there allowed one to take in the full view of the Holy Pill Sect. Qin Xue cast a worried glance toward the location where Wu Gui and the others were gathered in the distance.

"Ha! Wu Gui, you’ve got some nerve! How dare you raid my Holy Pill Sect in the dead of night! Have you grown delusional, or do you think I’m too old to lift my sword? Want to test the sharpness of my blade with your neck?"

Standing atop a flying beast drenched in demonic blood, Wen Mingyan shot Wu Gui a frosty glare. As he twirled the longsword in his hand, his tone brimmed with unrestrained arrogance.

Originally, Wu Gui had anticipated that Lu Junyi would be the one to handle this situation. Never in his wildest dreams did he expect Wen Mingyan to show up!

Wu Gui was infamous across Red Cloud Prefecture for being a lunatic. But Wen Mingyan? He had an even greater reputation as the most untouchable, reckless rogue!

When Wen Mingyan first became the Peak Master of War God Peak in the Holy Pill Sect, he wasn’t particularly well-known. His meteoric rise to fame was due to a talented inner sect disciple of War God Peak who had been betrayed and murdered at an auction in the Governor’s Mansion City. The killer turned out to be none other than the illegitimate son of Lord Red Cloud’s concubine. Everyone assumed the Holy Pill Sect would let the matter slide, given that the victim was only an inner sect disciple, while the perpetrator was the progeny of Lord Red Cloud. It seemed appropriate to give Lord Red Cloud some degree of face.

Even Lu Junyi had prepared to peacefully settle the affair by compensating the disciple’s family. Nobody expected the hot-headed Wen Mingyan to storm into Governor’s Mansion City, single-handedly decapitate the murderer with his sword, and hang the severed head on the Governor Mansion’s gate. To add insult to injury, he proceeded to publicly ridicule Lord Red Cloud, declaring him incapable of raising children.

Enraged, Lord Red Cloud dispatched four sixth-layer Bone Refinement experts to capture Wen Mingyan and teach him a harsh lesson. But the outcome was staggering: though four had departed, only one returned alive! The others had been killed outright, and the sole survivor suffered debilitating injuries, ensuring he would never advance further in cultivation.

The situation escalated to such a degree that the Sect Master of the Holy Pill Sect had to personally intervene to resolve the matter.

While it remained unclear how the two sides negotiated an agreement, Wen Mingyan retained his position as the Peak Master of War God Peak. From then on, his fearsome reputation spread across the entire Red Cloud Prefecture region, and no faction dared provoke him. He was even listed at the top of every "Do Not Offend" list to this day!

"Why him of all people!"

Wu Gui’s heart sank as he bellowed in frustration, "Lu Junyi! Get your ass over here!"

He deliberately raised his voice, certain that Lu Junyi’s keen hearing would pick it up.

Inside a loft, Lu Junyi heard Wu Gui’s shouting and couldn’t help but laugh. "A lunatic versus a rogue! Brilliant move! I really am a genius. Let them have their fun."

Wu Gui shouted several more times, but Lu Junyi never appeared. Neither did any of the other elders of the Holy Pill Sect. The only ones present were members of Wen Mingyan’s War God Peak!

Wu Gui’s expression grew grim. If it weren’t for his son’s death, he truly wouldn’t have chosen to confront Wen Mingyan this time.

"Enough shouting. The Great Elder of my sect has entrusted me with full authority over this matter. Leave now if you don’t want to get hurt, or don’t blame me for being ruthless!"

As he spoke, Wen Mingyan lazily swung the longsword in his hand, instantly unleashing a surge of powerful Sword Qi. Qian Wei, Qiu Kezhang, and Ouyang Ling instinctively tugged their flying beasts backward a few paces, visibly shaken.

Seeing their reactions, Wen Mingyan’s smirk widened.

"Wu Gui, did a donkey kick your head? What’s the big idea, showing up at my Holy Pill Sect late at night with a few elders? Are you here to hand over your life heads, or are you trying to force your sect master into starting a war?"

Wu Gui shot Wen Mingyan a cold glare. "Stop spouting nonsense! I’m here strictly on personal business, not on behalf of the Thousand Poison Sect! Your disciple Gu Sheng killed my son. Hand him over, and I’ll leave immediately!"

Wu Gui, knowing full well Wen Mingyan’s reputation as an untouchable rogue, had no intention of fighting unless absolutely necessary.

Despite their group of four, and the inaction of the Holy Pill Sect’s other elders, Wu Gui wasn’t completely confident about defeating Wen Mingyan. If he were, he wouldn’t have wasted time trading words—he’d have attacked already.

Recalling Wen Mingyan’s legendary exploits, even Wu Gui felt a tinge of fear. The sight of Wen Mingyan’s composed demeanor drove his mood even further into the depths.

"Gu Sheng is nothing more than an entry-level disciple. If we fight, how many of your War God Peak disciples can you protect? Don’t trade something significant for a minor matter!"

"Ha! You old turtle, stop lying through your teeth! When did my disciple kill your son? Your son clearly died to a demonic blood beast! I’m warning you—slander my disciple one more time, and I’ll make you regret it!"

A fight? Wen Mingyan wasn’t just unafraid—he was downright exhilarated.

As for Wu Gui’s threats, they were laughable to him.

Though Lu Junyi wouldn’t openly intervene, if a fight broke out, he would undoubtedly ensure the safety of the ordinary disciples. As for the chances of victory? That was never a concern.

Knowing Wen Mingyan as he did, Lu Junyi believed Wu Gui and his allies would count themselves lucky to manage a draw against the rogue.

Lu Junyi had long seen through Wu Gui’s intentions. That’s why he left this matter entirely in Wen Mingyan’s hands.

Both parties were acting independently, creating wiggle room for negotiation regardless of whether they fought or not. Still, the biggest factor was Wen Mingyan’s well-known status as a rogue. Lu Junyi hoped this would force Wu Gui to back down. And if they did fight, Wen Mingyan could handle it.

If Lu Junyi had taken charge instead, things would’ve gotten much more complicated. His physical capability meant he wouldn’t stand a chance in a direct fight with Wu Gui. Involving other elders would also complicate matters further.

This was the real reason Lu Junyi left the issue to Wen Mingyan—it wasn’t shirking responsibility but exploiting his precise understanding of Wu Gui’s psyche.

"Your disciple?"

Wu Gui’s pupils contracted sharply, a sense of dread seeping into his heart.

Though he had suspected Gu Sheng was on the Sect’s radar for potential grooming, he’d never imagined Wen Mingyan would personally apprentice him.

If Gu Sheng had joined any other branch, even becoming Lu Junyi’s disciple, things wouldn’t be this tricky. As an important figure in the Thousand Poison Sect, Wu Gui’s unique position ensured others would weigh the sect’s influence before acting rashly. Everyone except Wen Mingyan.

Wu Gui knew Wen Mingyan was either oblivious to political subtleties or utterly indifferent. After all, if even Lord Red Cloud’s status held no sway over him, why would Wu Gui think he stood a chance?

Wen Mingyan grinned smugly and nodded. "That’s right. Gu Sheng is now my disciple! I said he didn’t kill your son, and that’s the truth. If you dare falsely accuse him again, don’t blame me for what happens next. Seeing as you’re a notable figure in the Red Cloud Prefecture, I’ll give you a chance to turn back. But if you keep pestering me, don’t say I didn’t warn you!"

Wen Mingyan’s tone suddenly turned icy as he lifted his longsword, aiming it directly at Wu Gui.

In an instant, Wu Gui felt an overwhelming surge of lethal Sword Qi rushing toward his face.

Snorting coldly, Wu Gui unleashed the power of his seventh-layer Bone Refinement cultivation, obliterating the incoming Sword Qi.

Taking a step forward, Wu Gui brandished his nine-ringed saber, releasing devastating arcs of Saber Qi.

"Wen Mingyan, you and I both know the truth of what happened! I only have one son, and he’s gone. If you don’t hand over the culprit today, I won’t let this go! Spare me your threats—my son’s death has left me with nothing to lose. Even if it means death, I’ll fight for justice! Ha, you may be strong, Wen Mingyan, but let’s see if you can protect all your disciples from me!"

Wu Gui’s gaze shifted past Wen Mingyan to the young guest elders behind him, his lips curling into a cruel sneer. "If I slaughter every guest elder under War God Peak, you would feel at least some pain, wouldn’t you?"

Wen Mingyan—known to fear nothing and no one—burst into manic laughter.

"If that’s what you want, let’s see whether you can kill them faster than I kill you!"
